Description:
A collaboration with Johnny Katchoolik. I wrote the lyrics about two days BEFORE Johnny sent Dakota (his title for his instrumental soundtrack). Funny how that worked out.

Lyrics:
Tribal Atlantis

Hammerhead shark swimming,
flowing with the tradewinds,
cruising with the North Atlantic current
Streams of locomotion take me to Atlantis
where I reawaken old visions and truths

Galley of the sea men, heaving to and toward
push the night, plankton glowing

Rush of tidal forces, subvents fuming,
rippling roiling wretched foam,
dance of the maritime giants,
leviathan stomp, whalebone thumping,
gurgling mermaids, sunken vessels,
rotting flesh, empty lockers,
sawtooth reason, sawtooth reason,
sawtooth reason

No exceptions granted for exile
Toll booth to purgatory
A stent will keep my lifeblood coursing

Time to set sail in the Gulf! This is refreshing to hear lyrics and not instruments over a mid east feelin' piece. Sweet!

Great job you two! Favin!

trio &mdash 09/30/07 - 09:13:16 AM
Thanks for your comment. Actually, the "trio" ranges from one to five. In this case, only two of us. Perhaps the trio is actually the combo of head, heart and posterior.

Very different and unusual &mdash 09/30/07 - 09:41:15 PM
But also very well done. Outstanding lyrics and well sung Rich. And I like the music Johnny put together in spite of myself. It is sort of middle eastern in character, but also slightly west african or possibly Moroccan. What ever the influence, it's very good Johnny.

You both can be proud of your collaboration.

Ed

indeed &mdash 09/30/07 - 10:49:20 PM
You're supposed to say, "It's katchoolik." It's in the Urban Dictionary.

For me, the song starts out indigenous American but then introduces elements that sound Mediterranean and Middle Eastern. Somehow, ancient Atlantis imagery came to mind (before I received Johnny's soundtrack) and I just let the words fly onto paper without thinking much. Then, I sang over his soundtrack without thinking much, singing straight from my scribbled phrases. Pretty much ad libbed. Fun to do it that way, sometimes.

Thanks, Sloparts!
