Description:
This song was inspired by this couple that came to a party my wife and I threw. Everybody was having a great time until the couple started arguing. Suddenly the argument turned violent. He punched her in the head and then body-slammed her right there in front of all us. We were outraged. We broke it up and kicked him out, but we were unable to get her to see that this relationship was not right for her. She kept insisting that it was her fault the hits her like that and that she still loves him. Long story short...she kept getting her ass kicked by this guy. And for the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would put up with being beat up by someone who claims to love them. Why do women keep going back into the arms of a man who knocks them around??? Oh well, enjoy my song.

Lyrics:
It don't matter what he may say
It's not about him in any way.
And if you want to
You can leave when you please
Don't you feel guilty
Put your mind at ease.

Your feelings leaves you torn apart
And you can't let go
How do you start?
And he beats you when he gets mad
And he makes you the blame
When things go bad.

It don't matter
What he may say
It's not about him
In anyway
And if you want to
You can leave when you please
Don't you feel guilty
Put your mind at ease.

Listen up and let me tell you something!
You don't have to be
Treated like property
Bruised and abused
All over your body.
He don't treat you with respect
Try to keep you in check
And when you need a break
He tries to break you neck.
You need to leave
Come on Lady please
Grab your bags, your kids
Your keys and leave.
Hold your head up
And work hard to change this matter
Cuz you know you deserve much better.

You don't have to live in pain.
You can make a change.
Make that change.

You don't have to stay
You don't have to suffer in that pain.
You're not a slave
You're not property no
Just find your strength and go
Walk out the door
Make that change.

It don't matter
What he may say
It's not about him
In any way
And if you want to
You can leave when you please
Don't you feel guilty
About the man that makes you bleed.

His jealousy
And his fits of rage
Just breaks your heart
You need to turn the page
His controlling ways
Leads to ugliness
And you're beautiful
You need happiness.

It don't matter
What he may say
It's not about him
In any way.
And if you want to
You can leave today
Don't you let him
Stand in your way.

I enjoyed &mdash 10/03/07 - 11:26:30 PM
Hey man. . .has anyone ever told you you sound a little like Tom Petty? Especially the first verse.

I really enjoyed the rap in the middle-- The blues runs on the guitar were cool too.

Nice work.

Tom Petty?? &mdash 10/03/07 - 11:32:31 PM
Nope! Not yet. I keep getting comparisons to Darius Rucker and Lenny Kravitz. But I like Tom Petty!! Thanks!

Thanks!! &mdash 10/04/07 - 12:13:24 PM
I am still struggling with GarageBand to make a nice even, equal mix for this song. Either the guitars are too loud or the vocals are too loud. I've worked with the volumes on the individual tracks, used that multi compressor thing on the Master track and so on and so forth....I really like the energy of this song, so I uploaded it as is. I'm gonna google for some instructionals about mixdowns in GarageBand 3 and see what I come up with! Thanks!!

Sweet. &mdash 10/04/07 - 11:35:26 AM
That's a nice departure where you do the spoken part. I like your voice and I look forward to hearing more from you in the future. Fabulosity. Be lucky.

My Voice... &mdash 10/04/07 - 12:17:13 PM
I have such a complex about my singing voice, that its not funny. Yet I continue to challenge myself to sing. I'm doing voice exercises and stuff and I work on my confidence by making up more songs for me to sing on. I got some new tunage coming to macjams soon!

That Stupid Mix!! &mdash 10/04/07 - 12:26:55 PM
You can tell that I am not a music audio engineer! I cannot get the mix right on this song! I'm having a real hard time. I just looked at my eMac's trash can and I have well over 20 versions of this song tossed in there...all of them mixes that just did not sound right to me.

And I don't have a bass guitar! I didn't like any of the bass guitar loops that GarageBand offered, so I just went for it. Originally this song was just some acoustic guitar chords I played with just the chorus verse. But once I found those drum sounds and recorded the guitar chords on top of it...It took on a life of its own. I can only imagine what it will sound like with a bass guitar thumping along. I guess I gotta get a bass!

Wow! &mdash 10/04/07 - 12:56:48 PM
Awesome tuneage bro! Somewhere between Tom Petty and Los Lobos in feel. Well written and played this...I do agree with Steve about the low-end though. The bass needs to be brought forward in the mix. But apart from that one nit I absolutely LOVE this!

Rock on bro!

where you been? &mdash 10/05/07 - 12:45:26 PM
this is a great musical hybrid of many styles. first off, a real musician who can rhyme... what a concept. my biggest complaint about hip hop is the abundance of talent and lack of guitar players. as to your singing voice, my only advice is this; go nuts. go loud, and sing your ass off. you seem to be holding back. push from your soul. even if you are off key at first, you will get to a place where the power is there, and the key can be perfected. you have alot of potential, but push those vox. push yourself to do one-takes all the way through. listen for a couple of days, then do another one take, and compare. sing loud, and with reckless abandon.

Fine beginnings &mdash 10/05/07 - 07:23:48 PM
Welcome to MJs.Listened to just about all your contributions after reading your compliments concerning one of my tunes.I have always like the stuff that surprises as did this particular one. Some really, really nice stuff happin' here.
Certain elements from each of your contributions grabbed my attention. Many positives with your playing and singing, but for me the song structure and lyrics are very good.As you learn more I am sure as with most MJers your tunes will only get better.
As for the obvious addiction to digital recording just remember your music and your feedback is helping fuel other addicts....and we thank you!

Blessings,

Thanks For The Comments!! &mdash 10/06/07 - 06:10:21 PM
I appreciate everything you all are saying AND I got great news!! A co-worker of mine heard this song too and suggested the very same thing you guys did. He said, "PSex!" (They call me psex at work) "PSex, you need a bass part in your song!" And he proceeded to give me a bass guitar. So, I am now in possession of a Korean built DanceElectro Bass guitar. It's on now!! I'm about to tune up, plug in and play hard!!!

Thanks again everybody!!

cool sound &mdash 11/07/07 - 12:37:39 AM
i love how you have your own thing going. i didn't have a bass either for a long time (was either using the keyboard or I would tune my guitar way down and turn up the bass). i see that you're brand new to all of this. it'll come quickly ( i just started recording on the computer in march and i can already hear the difference in my tracks). welcome my friend.

You Gave Me A Great Idea &mdash 11/30/07 - 01:00:58 AM
The comment you posted on my song "It Don't Matter" gave me an idea that I incorporated in my newest song! Thank You Michael!!

You told me how once upon a time you did not have a bass guitar so you would tune your guitar way down to do the bass parts. That idea never occurred to me until you said something.

So, I was auditioning some drum loops when this loop conjured up a bass line in my head. I tuned my acoustic's 6th string way low and got to funkin out. You should hear the end result and tell me what you think. I kinda like it!!
Hopefully you will too!! It's my latest song called "Hey!!"

Thanks for the idea!!
