Description:
companion songs to Harlequin, pt.1

Lyrics:
Well I happened to see venus
I sort of understand the fuss
But she’s just another beach belle
Surfing the swell
On a seashell
Well I happend to see Juno
She’s powerful useful to know
But looks too much like my mother
It’s another
That I prefer

She’s got a minerva brace
Gives her haughtiness
And grace
Something wise
In her pale-blue eyes
She’s got the face
of a godess

I never miss the visit hours
And I always bring her flowers
To wreathe a crown around her head
while she’s spoonfed
On her white bed

I’m half-glad she crashed in this car
sometimes you wish upon a scar
let me marvel at this marble
leave the apple
On her table

She’s got a minerva brace
Gives her haughtiness
And grace
Something wise
In her pale-blue eyes
She’s got the face
of a godess

But all her former lovers
have signed their monikers
have drawn hearts and boners
all over
her plaster

another classic &mdash 10/04/07 - 05:51:37 PM
those guitar parts are great together. this reminds me of a band I used to see when I was a kid in san francisco. they were called the Nuns (like a artier, more punk rock version of Blondie - you'd like them). This is another really catchy song.

Wish Upon A Scar &mdash 10/04/07 - 07:10:00 PM
(nice synthy intro)

You sing this song like you're so happy! Not happy like when the Cure got happy and stupid, just happy, like happy that you were standing on the corner and saw the car crash with your own two eyes. I just notice a slightly different appproach to your singing on these recent songs, like you were dodging the flying metal parts or something.

She%u2019s got a minerva brace...crown...spoonfed...white bed.. is a great set of lyrical ideas (and a total turn on - you weirdo!).

I love when there are new Hamlet Machines songs. You guys are never short of great riffs and extremely odd songs. After this is downloaded, I will officially have more Hamlet Machines songs on my ipod than Rolling Stones, Who, Beatles and Justin Timberlake COMBINED!!

This is your second song referring to plaster.

Interesting.

" so this is real life" &mdash 10/05/07 - 01:29:10 AM
If you think I'm a weirdo, I may not be the only one. Here's what I found while googling for "minerva brace":

"all original, high quality scans of professional model Heather, modeling 5 neck and back braces. Braces include a Soft Collar, a Cervical Support Collar, a metal 4-Poster Brace a SOMI Brace and finally, a Custom Fitted TLSO with Plastic Cervical Orthosis attached to make a stunning CTLSO! All photographs were taken while wearing tight fitting leotards, swimsuits or sexy lingerie. Additionally, you will find some nice sneak preview shots of our next model, Elizabeth show her best side in 6 different braces. A Soft Collar, Philadelphia Collar, 4-Poster Brace, Aspen Collar, a Lerman Minerva Brace and a Florida CTLSO. You want more, how about over 20 minutes of original video shot during our photo session with Heather. See how the various braces hold her neck and torso in rigid, upright position, keeping her head still and free of movement as she poses for the camera"

Sounds like my kinda girl &mdash 10/06/07 - 02:30:11 AM
... this is a gret poppy little tune with a quite deranged lyric... reminds me of the movie Crash (not the oscar winning oe, the one with James Spaer et al). Lovely poppy-Bob Smith guitar work. A real singalomg song for the whole hospital ward

Oh yes &mdash 10/08/07 - 12:00:46 PM
There's a kind of brace fetish in Crash. The film is strange, but the book is really sick. Thanks for driving by, anyway.

so interesting. you have the greatest ideas for song lyrics. I love the plaster/white bed/marble motif - gods in the hospital - so great!

And I like the last verse. It's so funny and poetic.

Glad &mdash 12/30/07 - 04:03:05 PM
you spotted the plaster/God motif, and a bit jealous you spotted it before me. But you're right, it's THERE, definitely.

you found it.

I kind of like this one, as well.

Guitar is by the band's other member, Brentford K. Sound. praise to him.
