You're tempting me to bring out my daughter's clarinet &mdash 10/06/07 - 10:29:44 AM
not that I could play it with the skill you show here - but I did play when I was twelve. Really like what you did with the percussion and effects - cool piece.

Thanks, bud! &mdash 10/06/07 - 04:13:23 PM
You really should bring out your daughter's clarinet! In fact, everyone should!

Thumpin &mdash 10/06/07 - 01:59:02 PM
Stun, this is too cool. I like how the clarinet wankery holds it all together, through the glitchiness and reversing beats. Very nice, original stuff.

Is that a big ol goiter on his neck?? Yewwww...

There's not enough clarinet on MacJams, thanks for helping turn that around.

THnaks pV! &mdash 10/06/07 - 04:16:56 PM
The clarinet is the new guitar!!! ha ha!

...and having a knotted windpipe does result in a swelling of the neck area, not unlike a goiter...!

Wow &mdash 10/06/07 - 04:23:13 PM
Exceptional love the breaks in this. the clarinet choas goes well. At one point it sounds like a frog saying "sumptin"... dont know but I like this alot!

hmmm... &mdash 10/07/07 - 10:59:55 AM
...I guess I am part amphibian! That is the second time someone has mentioned frogs after they listened to one of my pieces (the first time was with my tune "oo aa ee"). Thanks for stopping by, egobandit. The comment is appreciated.

Love it &mdash 10/07/07 - 01:17:33 AM
Would like to say more, but am gonna have to listen a few more times to wrap my head around it. I will definitely show this one to my clarinet students. They will think it is very cool (or very weird).

cool &mdash 10/07/07 - 11:06:02 AM
I am always delighted when you mention playing my music for students... the feeling never gets old. This piece could be part of a lesson on hyperactive trilling! ...or maybe experimental music, of course...

yes the breaks in this are outstanding. emergency punctuation.

this really takes me to pauline oliveros territory and 'deep listening'. imagine this with you playin the clarinet and 5 delays together, so that you are playing off what you just played in staggered bits of time.

not only does this one have ballz, as usual, but there is a honking soul pressing it's face up against the glass at me. staring me in the eye and telling me everything it has to say.

ah- you're the best!

thanks &mdash 10/07/07 - 11:12:56 AM
I am glad you mentioned Pauline Oliveros... I have never heard of her before. It looks like some of her music is available on eMusic, so I will have to check it out.

I am glad you got the "live" feeling from this. Someday I want to get to the point where I can put on a live performance with all the bells and whistles. Until that day, I can at least piece it together in GarageBand!!

About Oliveros &mdash 10/07/07 - 11:10:23 PM
I strongly recommend "Deep Listening"...

Great track &mdash 10/07/07 - 02:01:18 PM
Nice clarinet work and it sits well on the hreat music you have layered with it. The bass at the start is mad esp with all those sounds being flanged about. Thenit goes into a wierd jazz session, I really like the madness of this track. Very interesting.

P.s. Mad photo as well

Unbridled ruction &mdash 10/07/07 - 10:32:43 PM
is the best ruction of all. I would really like to know if there is an official name for that 'juddering' of the reed you do at around 1:24; that's a really beautiful, indefinable sound.
Lots of good stuff in this; impeccable timing.

[ Reply to This ]
Thank ya, sonny! &mdash 10/08/07 - 12:51:34 PM
I think the "juddering" you are referring to is a trilling of the keys, which I did a lot on this track. Another technique which I have used sometimes is a fluttering of the tongue against the reed... I may use that on a future release, but I didn't use that technique here.

Very good! &mdash 10/07/07 - 10:45:26 PM
The clarinet playing is great and the beats are gorgeously dinamic (I even hear a samba groove for a few seconds).
Congratulations!

Stun Nutz. Reinventing Woodwinds.

This is sweet. Love the atonal quality in this. It's childishly sweet, yet twistedly demented. Right up my alley. Bravo!

very nice &mdash 10/09/07 - 09:56:56 AM
nice n sudden build up, density of it all is truly you. the beat rock uncontrollably and that one clarinetish-bass sound sounded very cool n scary. The freestyle approach does the clarinet justice. It is a misbehaving, yet adorable little smartass. It has its own will so to speak and the rest of the track accompanies it. Well done to medium-rare, this one;)

Good to hear you still can't resist!

A triumph Mr Nutz! &mdash 10/10/07 - 06:55:14 PM
That combo of real clarinet melody (you can play that thing!) with the electronics is startling and captivating. Frequently the piece seems to head in a particular direction (tune or beats) and then be pulled up short and sent in a whole other direction like an animal unable to settle in a cage.

PS - this is the second track I've commented on today which had a 'wank' related keyword!

Great job! &mdash 11/03/07 - 05:53:59 AM
It's very cool to hear a real clarinet around here! The clarenet is a great instrument for experimental music, because it is capable of making so many different (but cool) sounds. I like this a lot... it has a 'classic' electronic music feel to me, like something from the 70's or 80's, back when I was a student. Anyway, great job here, and I'm really sorry it took me so long to comment! I've kind of been on a hiatus from the site...

ha! &mdash 11/15/07 - 03:52:03 PM
Thanks for the compliments, Amanda...! I blush at the fact you are calling me amazingly talented. Reality is... I can play my own noodlings ok, but if I were to read sheet music or play a classical composition, I would need a LOT of practice! (I took eight years of clarinet in grade school, but it has been a while...)

Between your Ribs and your Windpipe, &mdash 03/19/08 - 05:21:02 PM
I think I like your pipe better. These being the first tracks of yours that I've heard, I'm happy that LeDebutant told me to check you out. It's cool music you make.

The percussion and clarinet are great. You get a live feeling from them well.

You should come back and make some more body parts sing.

Big fan... &mdash 05/07/08 - 07:47:47 PM
of the transitions and overall feel, of the slightly awkward but benign grittiness of the tune, of your propensity for puns and palindromes. This track went on my most recent mix cd.

Thanks.
