Description:
The original version of this composition was intended for small 19th century orchestra with music box.
After being somewhat content with that version I noticed a horn just a bit out of time. Just fixing that one note led on to more ideas for this music of a larger orchestra.
This was inspired by the Orleans Ballroom opened 1819 in New Orleans which was a part of the Theatre d' Orleans Opera House.
The two served a places of employment for newly arrived European musicians, or probably just for them to hang out.
As you can see from the above photograph the Ballroom is still open!

Hey M.O. &mdash 10/06/07 - 07:31:02 PM
Terrific. I love reading about the stories you have as well as the so well-put together music. You have such a gift in having a special story with your music. It is nice to read them when I come here to your site.

Thanks for sharing that special M.0. gift !

Hope everything is going ok with you. My daughter Robin and her boyfriend, when they came up here to Nashville Tn area also went to New Orleans. And of course they were saddened of the remains of the devastation. But they really enjoyed the area.

Keep up the great work with the music! Very enjoyable!

loved the first one... &mdash 10/07/07 - 07:53:24 AM
and this one is indeed even grander, I love the way you lead into each build... the last lead in with the snare (theme B) almost sounded like something Prokofiev would write. Your touches on dynamics for each instrument show great eye for detail, excellent orchestration, and the main theme here is achingly beautiful. And I loved the idea of starting/ending it as a music box tune. So, you were correct that this is worth working on more... but you missed one very important detail. There is an entire 4 minute section in the middle that you haven't written yet (i.e. it is FAR too short for such a gorgeous piece.) I hope you get a chance to develop these wonderful ideas further, the music wants to come alive under your fingertips!
