Song Description

A song dedicated to Sarah Tonin.

She hangs around until you get the message. At the very moment that your perceptions change polarity, she is gone. Her job is done here.

thanks, glad you stopped by...

some explanations, woven into my replies:

this song is actually more structured than it may appear. the form is A-B-A-C-B.

Q1: "What do you think you're listening to my friend"... &mdash 10/12/07 - 11:05:01 AM
A1: A fantastic piece or art in sound.

Q2:"I don't know what's goin' on here"...

A2: Who cares? It sounds incredible!

So fine...

thank you for listening

continuing with some explanations:

the song starts out in Cm, modulates to up Ebm when the voice comes in, then up to Em for the repeat of part A, and back down to Ebm for part C and on to the end.

Ahhh...good ol Sarah Tonin... &mdash 10/12/07 - 04:10:37 PM
...isn't she Melah Tonin's sister? And didn't she date one of the Lobotomy twins for awhile? I hear all kinds of stuff....

Great track Bill! Ha ha...I really dig that change up with the Bela Lugosi vox...Very entrancing rhythms...extremely good mix! Kudos!

Be well friend!

thanks!

continuing with some explanations:

if you take the piano/bass line from part A and play it a half beat early, you get the bass line for part B.

I was listening to Blur - 13 &mdash 10/12/07 - 05:11:57 PM
on the way home and the piano bounce in the beginning fell right into the vibe. Very cool track Smokey. My levels are adjusted for the night. Thanks.

Ever think about the connection between the word/music "ambient" and the sleeping drug "Ambien"?

thank you

i did notice that about Ambien/t - but it's just a marketing thing, right?

continuing with some explanations:

if you take the piano/bass line from part A and play it an 9 beats early, and tweak it just a smidge, you get the bass line for part C.

pop? wow.

thanks for listening

continuing with some explanations:

the piano/strings thing in part C was fun: it's played on just the black keys.

thank you for stopping by and listening

continuing with some explanations:

part C includes a loop of a crowd. it contains a cash-register bell, used as a mini- turn-around.

thanks for the compliment

continuing with some explanations:

the last voice that says "this recording will self-destruct in five seconds" cracks me up every time.

Sounds &mdash 10/14/07 - 07:27:41 PM
You are the master of weaving odd sounds into songs. The whatdoyouthink voice is particularly funny.

Thanks
Bill

there is a plan to the insanity!

thanks for commenting

continuing with some explanations:

the 911 guy "walk away from there, OK?" introduces part A.

the confused guy "I dunno what's going on here" introduces part B

the Russian guy "what do you think you are lstening to, my friend?" introduces part C.

the ATC guy "27, uh 07, and uh 270, and uh we'll see ya" guides you out.

change is good. so they say...

on the other hand, repeated nerve cell firings tend to reinforce the links, and presumably the associated behavior.

so maybe change is not so good after all... ?

glad you enjoyed it & thanks for commenting

will self-destruct in 10 words, so what can I say?

Great song, bringing music and science to a beautiful marriage...
