Description:
stumbled across a squirrel with a tombstone in the park one fine day and thought what a mystery ! i must write a song of this incident in Forest Park.
picture taken by joey asaro

Lyrics:
not much is known of the squirrel set before us
he frolicked and gathered in these fields and the Forest
he ran threw the trees withe greatest of ease jumping and playing the grass and the leaves

now here lay lucifer o'tool he was nobody's
pet and he's nobody's fool, how long did he live here how long was he dead , he sleeps by the sculptures in a forest park bed

accident or rage maybe murder wrought from rage
perhaps an old squirrel friend with her heart in a cage
what dangers are lurking could be hiding in wait for you unaware unsuspecting so cunning and cruel, would soon take the life of lucifer o"tool

Hardware:
g-5 fender ( blech !! ) acoustic, ovation mandolin, firebox, crate mic

Software:
g-band

let me tell you.... &mdash 10/12/07 - 11:15:52 PM
about dead squirrels. My cat usually nails around ten of them in the summer. No tombstones, just the trash can.

That is some really great mando playing on top of this folk tune. nice!

those little rodents !! &mdash 10/14/07 - 10:53:35 PM
yes cute they may be as they're steeling the fruit from my trees and pillaging my garden but this one did not meet his fate do to me. a friend stumbled on to him and his marker in the park one day and he took the pic. i thought it might make a quirky song.
thanks for the kind words.
all of Gods blessings to you as well !!

what a great song. love the mandolin. have you thought of adding some bass? that's all it's missing, in my humble opinion. love the lyrics, especially "perhaps an old squirrel friend with her heart in a cage."

hey seca &mdash 10/14/07 - 11:13:16 PM
i actually did have a bass line for it but cut it , i thought it would sound a little more folksy without it. i almost cut the drums as well but didn't. glad you enjoyed the mandolin. i'm planing on taking out the mandolin solo and putting in a flute solo.
thanks for listening and commenting i really appreciated it !

Best Opening Line &mdash 10/18/07 - 08:37:58 AM
...of any song I've heard in a long time. "Not much is known of the squirrel set before us..." Utterly priceless. If I'd heard this on the radio I'd have pulled over, shut off the car, and listened transfixed. 'It's a squirre', I'd have thought. 'He's singing about an actual dead squirrel. This is GENIUS.'

There's an epic, misted-Irish-mountains feel about this that bespeaks of timeless mysteries, unanswered questions and secrecies beyond the breath of mortal lifetimes. And it's a freakin' SQUIRREL. I love the lyrics, particularly the "nobody's pet and nobody's fool," as well as the now-classic "an old squirrel-friend with her heart in a cage".

A flute solo would be killer here. Er... killer... dead squirrel... Sorry, that wasn't intentional.

r.i.p. &mdash 10/20/07 - 09:47:30 PM
you cant see in the pic. but on the wood it says "r.i.p. lucifer o'tool
3/20/2007" and therefore the questions began. if i would have thought about it sooner i could have incorporated it in the "pirate lioli." i don't think it will ever reach the "dead skunk in the middle of the road " fame but i think the world is ready for another dead rodent hit !!

as for the flute solo, that was actually supposed to be instead of the mandolin but i got tired of waiting for my daughter to add it.. oh well
thanx for listening, i always look forward to your comments !!
