Earth (27)Planet (6)visitor (1)Funk (164)airlock (2)crickets (3)brontosaurus (3)billion (1)years (6)past (9)monkey (21)uptight (1)gettin funky (1)
Description:
This is a new posting of a song I started a few days ago. It was just loops on the old version, but on this version I've added a vocal (of sorts) and a live guitar part, rearranged the tracks to make it all fit better, and remixed it. I hope you like this newer version, but if not, let me know why and what it needs to fix it.

Setting the scene:

It's 100 million years in Earths past and a creature from another world lands in a clearing on the edge of a sub tropical jungle.

He opens the airlock and steps out to find a world full of sounds and rhythms and teaming with life of all descriptions. He is overwhelmed by it all and after a few minutes of looking over this world of life , he re-enters the airlock.
I hope you enjoy the scenery as much as he did.

Enjoy

Ed

Looking around this primitive world
ain't nothin' gonna come of this
Too much confusion, too much dissolution
nothin's gonna come of this.

But the world is pure and I'm pretty sure
if I come back in a billion years
That little uptight monkey, is gonna get funky
and I'll bet it's gonna sound like this.

Funk-a-holics Association of America so you can get off that stuff man.

There is a phrase I always use in these situations, "IT'S NOT MY FAULT".

Glad you like this McB. I not a GB virgin, but very nearly. This is only the 3rd time I've used GB to post a song, and the first time I've added live guitars and vocals. Now I need to figure out what to do with the lyrics and how to squeeze them in. Right now it's like a story you read in the paper that's continued on page A8, and when you go there, it ain't there. I'll work on that.

Thanks for the howl man, I appreciate it a bunch.

Keep well my friend.

Wow! &mdash 10/13/07 - 09:23:51 PM
This is completely different than anything of yours I've heard before (};-P) Some of the loops you used were familiar. Tight production and a great composition Ed. Kudos! I didn't realize you were so diverse. It's a good quality! Good job bro.

I didn't always do country, In my youth I played a lot of R&B, Blues, Stones, Animals, and just plain old Rock. It's only in the last 20 years that I've been doing country.

Glad you decided to come by and visit, and glad you got the Pocket POD. Have a lot of fun with that thing.

Thanks Alvin

Get down Funky, huh &mdash 10/14/07 - 11:41:04 AM
Thanks Maurice, glad you liked it. It was more an experiment than anything else, although you're right about my true colors coming through. I used to love to play Blues, Funk, R&B, and Rock in the 60's and 70's. But after I got married and started raising a family, I needed a "real" job so I got away from the music on a Pro level.

But now I'm retired, and have the time to work on the music when ever I want, and I want.

Thanks for the cool words Maurice, I really appreciate you dropping in to check out my newest. Be cool man

Thanks Micheal &mdash 10/14/07 - 11:53:29 AM
I'm really glad you like the production on this. I had posted an earlier version without Guitar and Vocal on it and when I added those parts into the mix, I completely redid the way the tracks laid in the mix, and rearranged some of their parts, deleting some, adding some and just moving some around. I wanted it to sound really good since it was my first try at producing anything Funky in more years than I can remember. Probably the last time I tried to play anything Funk was in the early 70's, so it's hard to get it back.

Thanks again Micheal for the really kick-ass comments man, you made my day.

Be well my fried

Stretching out &mdash 10/14/07 - 07:57:38 PM
This started out life as the skeleton of a Zony Mash song; I'm glad to see it getting fleshed out. This also points to a side I never would've guessed you had, judging from your earlier posts. I'm very interested in hearing the next installment.

Thanks again for the comments and for coming back for a listen.

No one here is exactly what they seem &mdash 10/15/07 - 06:23:15 AM
I have a checkered past Sonny. I've only been doing country the last 20 years or so. Before that I've done blues, rock, R&B and some funk. But all that is so long ago that it's really a stretch to go back and dig up the bones for forensic examination and try to bring it back to life.

Anyway, thanks for the post and kind words Sonny

Keep surprising people if you can

Ed

HOLY CRAP! &mdash 10/15/07 - 08:17:35 AM
Jeez, things are moving fast here! i listened to the first version... then caught the second version without live guitar... then, before I can grab a breath... THIS!

Okay. I think you can safely say you're not the 'washed-up' musician your bio purports you to be (laughs) ... this is amazing stuff, all the more so for having heard the previous version and the improvements you worked into this. This versions sounds much more solid and cohesive - the loops don't sound like loops anymore, they form a much more flowing background that you lay a sizzling guitar solo over.

I LOVE the 'uptight little monkey' line... this could be the beginning of a concept album! Yeah! Yeah!

Seriously... this is a wonderfully tight piece of music, with excellent blending of loops and live instrumentation to create something that really grooves. I'll expect to see you joining the Loop It Or Lose It (LIOLI) gang next time around, right? There's free beer!

Okay, kidding about the beer. But it's a blast and you'll have a hoot.

Jeez is right. There ain't no moss growing here. How about you? Just take a deep breath and exhale slowly and it'll be fine, trust me.

Since I started posting my old stuff onto MacJams and iComp I've started playing and working on music again for the first time since my wife died in 1996. She was a lot of the inspiration behind a very creative period in my life, and when she died the music did too. But now it's time to start doing some new music and to get together with my fellow musicians and create something new again.

Thanks for the comments about the difference between the older versions and this. I decided that since there was some interest out in the community for what I was working on then maybe I ought to make this into a real piece of music instead of just a bunch of loops. And doing that helped me to understand a lot more out the strengths and weaknesses of GB. There are some things that GB does very well, but there are other things you really need a DAW to accomplish. It's good to know the difference.

But still, the "washed up old musician" thing is true. I'll probably never play in front of an audience again, and that's ok. I can still create and help others to create some really good music that may someday just be the right song in the right place at the right time.

You said "I LOVE the 'uptight little monkey' line... this could be the beginning of a concept album! Yeah! Yeah! "

DITTO man, I did too when I wrote it down and it just rolled of my tongue when it came time to "sing" it.

Did you say something about "FREE BEER". I'm up for that. I'll have to see what I can do when the next LIOLI comes around. Could be a lot of fun. Besides, being a member of the Loop It Or Lose It (LIOLI) gang son=und like fun too.

Thanks Rik for all the encouragement and for the great comments. You just made my day, make that week, month, year.

Be well my friend

Sir Ed,
I haven't got the chance to listen to this piece in the day you post it or the day after it but i think it's the time to do that. This is the best version of your Funks before, so glad you added your own vocal, the guitar sounds great and well placed ! Loved it so much
Thanks for sharing

I'm glad you dropped in to check out the latest edition in the Funky World saga. This has been a fun experience for me, as well as a learning one. I've gone back to my Rock roots and pulled out a few things I'd forgotten I knew to get this put together. And it got the creative juices flowing again which is a real bonus.

Again, thank you for coming back to check it out, and for the kind words Birdman.

be well my friend.

Thanks for the comment and stopping by for a listen Dick.

hip country funkster? &mdash 10/17/07 - 07:06:14 PM
That's an oxymoron isn't it? You can't figure out that I've had a checkered past from what I do here now can you?
I wasn't always a country player. In my youth, (keeping in mind I'm 2 years older than dirt) I played in Rock bands, Blues bands, and even a little Country now and then. It's only in the last 20 years or so I started writing songs and most of them were country. What's a matter, can't a girl change her mind. LOL

Anyway Scott, thanks for dropping in for a visit, it's always good to hear from you.(pun intended). Be well and I hope all goes well on the "track" and the only thing that hits the wall is the sound of beautiful music.

Glad you stopped in for a listen. I haven't gone near anything Funky in about 30+ years, and this is nothing like I used to do. But it was fun stretching out a little and getting my feet in the water again, even if only on this one. I've got some other stuff that's kinda Rhythm and Blues, and Blues that I've posted too, and it's starting to come back some but I know it's gonna take time to get the old chops back.

Anyway, glad you liked this one and took time to let me know Plus. Be well my friend
