Okay. &mdash 10/13/07 - 10:26:17 PM
I admit it. I fav'd it before I listened to it. Alright. I also downloaded it before I listened to it, at least before I'd listened to it all the way through...

But you know, I voted AFTER I heard it, and as for the download, I'M NOT GIVING IT BACK...

I can't believe, sometimes, that you're pulling this off on an Ibanez Strat. This track sounds hollow-bodied as all get out, and not like a Strat pickup, either...

As for the tune itself, it's obviously lovingly and respectfully constructed, with a pretty melody and harmony, although I detect that lingering chords-with-numbers problem still hangin' in there. Work on that, won't you?

With continuing admiration,

Ed

Well it &mdash 10/14/07 - 09:29:34 PM
actually is not a strat pickup.(See picture on song "Silver Minor".Sorry about the chords with numbers.I have a couple of more folky type things I am working on- one even features a "G" chord.
Maybe I even got you to check out the real Charlie Christian who makes me sound rather pathetic. Thanks for your comments.

man oh man &mdash 10/13/07 - 11:06:08 PM
that was some wonderful playing. It must of taken some time to come up with this one. It's rare to hear a electric guitar played with the tone knob turned way back these days. great tribute!

Thank you &mdash 10/14/07 - 09:37:43 PM
for your comments. The song didn't take that long to come up with-it's based on the "Rhythm changes" chord sequence that jazz players like to improvise on.I did record a bunch of different versions till I got one with a solo that i could live with.I snuck in a few of Charlie's riffs here and there.Glad you liked it!

Just curious... &mdash 10/13/07 - 11:07:48 PM
...do you play with a combo, too? This sounds great as is. You know I love your solo work. It would also sound fantastic with a small drum kit and stand up bass...

...done Charlie proud, Mark...really love this...nice last chord...

I actually &mdash 10/14/07 - 09:50:00 PM
have not performed in at least 3 years because of left hand pain. Before that I played in rock, blues, and jazz bands for years.I kind of lost contact with everyone I used to play with. It's hard to get back in once you're out.I wouldn't mind doing an occasional gig for fun-maybe eventually.
Yea this would sound good with at least a stand-up bass, but I don't have access to one and a fake one would sound....fake.
Thanks for continuing to listen!

That's some kinda pickin &mdash 10/14/07 - 01:07:39 AM
you have going on there Mark. You don't really hear this kind of cool Big Band Jazz guitar playing much anymore. I feel we're all the lesser for not hearing more of it. But like everything else, it'll make a comeback one of these days.

Can I ask what kind of rig you're playing. To me it almost sounds like an old Gibson like maybe a L5 or something. I suppose it could also be a Gretsch like maybe a Country Gentleman. Well no matter, whatever it is it really sounds great as does the playing on this tribute.

Very smooth Jazz licks and beautiful sounds Mark. Thanks for posting it.

Actually &mdash 10/15/07 - 11:38:23 AM
it's an Ibanez Strat copy that I bought in 1982 for $100.The pickups have been changed-there's a picture of it on my "Silver Minor" song page.I've used it for rock, country, jazz and blues.Glad I fooled you into thinking it was a hollowbody.
Thanks for the positive feedback!

Most of Charlie's &mdash 10/15/07 - 08:35:19 PM
recordings were with Benny Goodman's sextet. He played mostly short solos, but they are all brilliant. He was one of the 1st electric guitarists-he had almost no one to copy.It always amazes me when some one so young creates a style of playing on their own.He was one of the happiest sounding players ever-I can't help smiling when I listen to him.

Terrific Musical Tribute &mdash 10/16/07 - 06:57:27 PM
It's scary to imagine what CP might have accomplished if he had lived longer.

Great job, Mark. Nice, authentic approach and a terrific tribute to a legendary guitarist.

I hope your hand is improving for you. I'm back to about 90 percent now... and thank God for every bit of recovery. But I know how frustrating it can be. ;)

not just the notes &mdash 10/17/07 - 10:49:16 PM
but real feel... and a grove a mile wide... WITH JUST A GUITAR!... that's class... and reflects years of work.. but it didn't feel like work did it...

very impressive stuff here Mark...

Scott.I have a huge respect for your amazing talent.I do try to work on subtle things when I'm playing or improvising-like attacking notes in different ways or mixing chords with single lines.I'm glad someone noticed!
