Description:
Back around father's day Bud had released
"My Bloody Fathers Day".
http://www.macjams.com/song/32773
A droning type of song with only one chord. I liked it so much that I wanted to goof around with it and see where I could go with it without changing what Bud had already done.
So Bud was kind enough to send his original files. I was able to re-mix the original tracks (quite a few) to make room for even more (quite a few) tracks of guitars and vocals. I did however did add a chorus (2 additional) chords. In keeping with the original idea.
For the vocals I asked Micheal Wark & Michael2 to add their own lyrics and vocals to this with no preconceived idea of what this is about. I don't know either.
So thanks Guys for helping out.

Lyrics:
Micheal Wark"I heard the lyre of the Orphic Seer
When Thera blew, I heard it's thunder
I took my stand on Thermopylae's strand
I've bowed before gods without number"
"'House of four doors"
Infinite shores
We're here together forever"
Tomorrow knows
it comes and goes
But I'll be here forever
Michael2
I see them reappearing
I see them in my head
I hear them in the hallway
I hear they're making plans
Vic
I swam a ocean that has since gone dry
climbed a mountain that once touched the sky
I walked through fire just to feel the heat
Yelled at the gods so they could hear me speak
Tomorrow knows
it comes and goes
But I'll be here forever
read everything till I went blind
cut free from all the ties that bind
opened my mind with my third eye
Tomorrow knows
it comes and goes
But I'll be here forever

... we're not worthy... we're not worthy...
What can I say?! Can I be one of the roadies?
(have you been visiting the Maharishi again??)
Jack
just phoned in. He has listened to your song.
He commented, "Not too subtle."
Hmmm? I think he means it brings back good memories (he's always a bit mystic in his pronouncements).
Vic Holman
Bud is the guiding light on this, with his original tune.
he was the incense and the rest of us are peppermint.
now is the time to go back to wearing love beads and bellbottoms.
This one has been in the works for the past 3 weeks. So it was a trip just to finally set it free
Wow! This is trip and a half. Thanks so much for giving me a part in this Vic. Kudos to Michael2 for his over-the-top Beatlesque vocal delivery in the mid-section. You really nailed it man! And Vic's guitar work is simply stunning. A psychedelic tour de force over Bud's original powerfully suggestive and hypnotic sound bed. I just love this guys!
Be well!
Vic Holman
I'm glad that you jumped in to help out.
those lyrics you came up with are pretty trippy in there own right.
And i agree about Michaels part. It just blows me away on how he came up for a melody for it,
Thanks again for the help
perceptualvortex
This is great, one of the best psychedelics I've tried in a long time. Makes me feel like I'm bowling for stars.
Vic Holman
and this psychedelic won't leave you with a hangover.... much.
It's always tomorrow somewhere. it just takes us part of a day to catch up to it.
mtriviso
This is sort of freakin' me out. I don't think you guys should be tinkering with this sort of power.
Vic Holman
... don't freak out to much. I like working with these guys, they are each a power onto themselves.
Thanks for taking the audio journey with us.
lengold
why didn't you come to see me whilst you were at Abbey Road Studios.
That was some trip... Very, very creative and extremely well produced. (I got some new headphones today and they, and this, blew me away.)
Fantastic.
Cheers
Len
Vic Holman
Thanks Len,
when Bud first post My Bloody Fathers Day last June, I knew I had to play with it before it was half way over.
True this is best on good headphones. There are a lot of layers here.
Moviz
who needs to travel all the way to India when they can listen to this? There are Swamis, Fakirs and Holy men all around as I listen... just like being in those busy Indian Streets with all of life passing by. It's a great sound and collab... and very mystical, M
Vic Holman
For quite some time I have been wanting to do something like this. When Swami Bud came out with his original track, I knew I heard my calling. I'm glad this was able to come together and save everyone the plane tickets.
Feter
here again a super McJammers group do their
majical combo .the guitar is Incredible ..
the singing (everybody) just into the groove
Vic you need to write a thesis about this ,
a worhty answer to (tomorrow never knows) .
KUDOS !!
Vic Holman
I'm so glad that Bud had the original song to inspire me to work with it. I'm also really glad our two Mikes added something to take this to a higher level.
The guitar solos I just plugged in and went for it.
What a nice trip guys.... Excellent Collab... LOve it.
Best Regards

Vic Holman
The best part about this trip is no one had to leave their homes.
Just a fun trip of the mind.
michael2
that turned out way different than I thought; excellent job. Everyones parts are so cool, and that guitar is kicking my butt. it's kind of like Acid Mothers Temple. love it. Although my last line is: "I hear they're making plans." I don't know if I drive after this one.
Vic Holman
Thanks for your help Michael. I had to keep everyone in the dark on what was going on. I really wanted to surprise you guys. This just would not of seemed complete without your involvement.
Fixed the misprint. Note to self: don't transcibe lyrics after 4 hours of mixing.
Z293
All the way from the vocals to the instrumentation. Perfect.
Vic Holman
..a favorite song that everyone would like to have done or recreate. I thought it would be fun to do a spin off of the beatles "tomorrow never knows."
Thanks for tuning in!
Heh no lie just got back from Bakhara (our fav Indian restaurant) this fits so well w/ the evening mood, I can see a tiger outside my window wording the lyrics, nice rollercoaster ride, Ive been swept up and brought back in a matter of roughly 5 minutes.
Vic Holman
Well, I knew it was no coincidence with my third eye and all.
I'm just wondering how strong was that Indian food to enable you to see a tiger out your window, mouthing the words yet? Then again I had a bull moose outside my front window a few weeks ago, a real one.
This was a trip to make.
"He'll take you up, he'll bring you down; he'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground...Vic Leary..."
SmokeyVW
frisbee - far out!
but it was right in front of him.
this is a tremendous tune guys!
the production is great. vocals, guitar, effects, etc., etc. WOW!
the pic is like a page from the Discordian Coloring Book!
http://www.poee.org/living/GetBook.aspx?BookPageID=23
thanks
Vic Holman
Bud's original tune gave me the temple of templates to start off with. But, man oh man alot of mix time went into this piece. But it was all worth it considering I've wanted to do a piece along this line for some time now.
bud
It's all too much for me to take the love that's shining all around you.
I can't thank you and enough for taking this tune and blowing the roof off the sucker. Your production, guitars and vocals are not to be believed - and the foresight to enlist the prodigious talent of Mike and Mike was truly inspired.
I am humbled. Thanks guys.
Vic, Mike and Mike! Kind of like the MJ version of Larry, Daryl and Daryl?
Vic Holman
If you hadn't come up with MBFD in the first place, none of this would of happened. I'm really glad that you still had the original files.
What you created was so inspiring to me that I think I might of have been drooling at the possibility of working with it. It took a while but tomorrow finally arrived.
Thanks for all your help
bud
Mt. Tam at sunset - and I haven't been that high in a good many years. The guy I was with said he was at Burning Man with friends this year enjoying some of the earth's gifts and were longing to hear anything that tripped as solid as this tune. Mission accomplished.
Vic Holman
that I had to be a trippy scene going through a pass at sunset. We have a pass going over to Seattle thats pretty cool when it's not snowing.
and here I was thinking that the itunes visualizer would be cool, not as much since you mentioned that
It was a pleasure to work with Vic and Michael2 on your venerable soundtrack oh Swami Budananda!
Namaste!
buckhorn
Big and ambitious project, and it worked anyway. Each vocal reminded my of a different 60's band, can't exactly remember which goes where. Ilike the instrumental and tonal changes from passage to passage, It was a journey........ Regards
Vic Holman
You got that right. A lot of tracks and time went into this. One of the big reasons I asked the two Mikes to join in to give the whole thing a different feel and take. They did wonderful work
Axgrinder
I like how you threw in that "hook" from one of your older tunes in the last quarter! you fellers did a great job on this and it most definitely stands out in the crowd, so to speak! A treasured listen indeed. Accolades all around!
Ax
Vic Holman
Hey Alvin,
Actually all my songs are exactly the same. It's the red button that kinda changes them a little. It's great to work with these guys.
Mr. Vic, all i can say that i'm impressed by your songs (all of your list). Your guitar work is always EXCELLENT. The mixing and arranging here is in the 1st class ! All of you did a very great job ! .. Great POST
DEEPEST BOWS SIR
Vic Holman
A lot of time went into this, so I'm glad that you liked it.
And these are terriffic guys to have on this piece.
The guitar work just came naturally, that was the easiest part.
Thanks again Yeman, I'm keeping a eye out for your rock tune.
echoroom
Jeez - MJs top talent together at last! Everything is just top notch here.... this is so far beyond me, I'm torn between giving up and being spured on!
Fantastic guys.
steve
Vic Holman
No your not giving up. M-JAMS would call Interpol to drag you back.
I'm glad that Bud had the initial track to start off with.
I wanted different vocalists to give each section a different sound. I'm glad they jumped in. Otherwise I might have had to get down on my knees and get all whiny and pleady to get you to throw a few lines in. While you laughed and sicked the hounds on me.
If Echoroom quits I'm quiting too!
Reinholt56
This is both excellent and a true MJ's classic.
Well done to everyone from the initial concept through the putting together to the production.
Most excellent.
Paul.
Vic Holman
Thanks to Bud's original tune. that got the ball rolling in my head on expanding it even farther. And it's fun to invite a few friends in to party on this.
Macaudion
Okay, so this is not the pastry to have w/ my coffee this morning, but I can't wait til evening falls and I'll take the opportunity to go all places no time forever w/ you guys - And I'll comment later - But I really should just read my newspaper right now... Macca
Vic Holman
door number 2 or what's behind the curtain?
be careful that the coffee isn't spiked. this is trippy enough.
willnlf
Bud's brother, Will, here. A sensational mix of sounds in this tour de force. Out Mystery Tours Magical Mystery Tour. The guitar work is spellbinding. A little Steve Earle Transcendental Blues in the middle section. This is a great "put on the head phones, turn it up loud" total music experience. Take me back, but it's great to know music like this is here in the present, too. Absolutley inspired!
Vic Holman
This was the type of music that made me want to learn guitar way back then.
For some time I have been trying to figure how to go about doing a one chord song along this line. When your brother came out with his original version that set the wheels in motion.
Thanks again Will. And keep supplying Bud with your great lyrics!
Mcboy
cop my stash.....heh?...fess up.....hehhehhe...nice trip man.....cosmic rendering of intergalactic musings.....rainbow raindrops of innerspace transients dancing through the gates of metamorpheses attainicus pacificus..et pluribus unum......peace....
Vic Holman
...don't leave your stash out in the open. Under the couch is no good either.
you probably figured that eventually I would take a song to the extreme in this style.
guitapick
...is the bagpipes...great guitar work...travel the time line from '60s to the present...
Vic Holman
yeah those bagpipes keep disappearing around recording time. Had to replace it with a hash pipe instead. umm, metaphorically speaking of course.
guitapick
...of course...
This just lifted my soul from my body and spirited it into the kaleidoscopic vortex of Nirvana!!! :-) A totally "Ohm" -gasmic trip!!! Like Woodstock; free love and cosmic consciousness without the need for mood altering whatever! Oh!!!... My God!!!..... Vic!!! :-) Your guitars are freakin' phenomenal, Bro!!! I want to be reincarnated as one of your guitars! :-) Just Kidding! And the lyrics and your vocals (Micheal, Mike 2 , and Vic) just took me for a spiritual ride through the time warping universe! "Do not now seek the answers. Live the questions." I'd light some inscense - but it makes me sneeze. :-)
Vic Holman
Yeah this is tripping the light fantastic. When I first started there was a lot of head scratching to figure out where to go. Thats when I got the idea in my head to add our two Mikes to give it a different experience. I'm so glad they helped me out.
Alannah
... in my Macjams duties .... not being around since June .... that it's been a while since I visited a Vic Holman tune ... BUT WOW what a tune to VISIT upon my return !!!! Truly EPIC!!!! I could almost taste the "mushrooms" in this tune .. heh heh
Vic Holman
yes this just reeks of 'shrooms.
EPIC was in the many hours of mixing something like 35 - 40 tracks. considering how dense this is to start off with.
Good to have back around on the site.
DWL
Very far out Vic, Psycho Delia is not dead. She is alive and haunts MacJams .....
Cheers
Dick
Vic Holman
you more then likely knew I would put out something like this eventually.
This would be great with the itunes visualizer turned on.
DWL
this is bloody excellent. A man after my own heart :-)
Cheers
Dick
rjamadeus
love the guitar work esp. great vocals, every thing is amazing in this piece guy's, great work
rob
Vic Holman
the guitars where the easy part. there are a lot of tracks, some are way back in there. the leads I just hit record and had them in the first pass. Ya gotta like that when that happens
musichead
kind of Beatles sounding..which isnt a bad thing at all.
simple yet...I dont know... really I think less chord changes, Id would drone this one out on one chord. Its really really good!!
Vic Holman
one chord to many. Someday I'll try a song with no chords.
I first tried the chorus without the two additional chords, but i kept them brief.
Seems the D chord has a magical quality to it for this style of music. and Beatle-ish on purpose, a spin off of "Tommorow Never Knows"
Which one is John, Paul, George or Ringo
:-)
Very nice tune chaps - great performances all round
Vic Holman
I know I get the george comparison a bit. and michael 2 comes close to a lennon. so bud & mike w, will have to wrestle on who gets to be ringo.
announcer
But still lovin' it.
Well thought out and well executed song.
I guess I never grew up ... I still like this sound. Or maybe it was that other music grew apart from me and got stupid.
Vic Holman
I think your right on both accounts. Back at the time I was listening to this style as a preteen and made me want to learn guitar. Just took me all these years to go all the way with it.
Thanks again!
Drew Kopr
Excellent guitar lines and effects. Very fun and appealing to my ears.
Vic Holman
Bud's original song was the catalyst for this and just inspired me to go to the extreme with it.
Macaudion
Bud, Micheal, M2 and Vic - You guys made me grin for an awfully long time, sirs!
What an awesome piece of music!!! Just a stunning work of art gus!
Everything is just so beautifully rendered!
I feel like I should say more and although this time, I'm in just the right head space to travel w/ you guys, that seems to only put words even further away! And truly, that's a good thing!
This one will command lots of play time! We like that!
Thanks for the travels! Macca
Vic Holman
.. did alot of under the "counter" stuff in our youth and probably never really came down. Just high on life now a days
Macaudion
I guess I should almost bow my head as if I would be in shame too... It's kinda like the places that you guys were seemingly revisiting, they sure seemed awefully familiar...
Eh eh eh...
Vic Holman
this really is a trip to the center of the mind with time traveling involved. Ya know this is probably the song I've been waiting to make for a few years now since I started learning how to record music. It's a trip in its own right, isn't it?
Bud has done all of us a very great service, has he not?
Cori Ander
Great music .. just fantastic .. your'e one of the MJ musical masters.
Vic Holman
I know, for me it's taken awhile to figure out what I'm doing. Though I still have doubts if I'm doing it right. Flying on a wing and a prayer.
davisamerica
but today does and this is a trip....anyone seen my keys????
Vic Holman
. .lets see. Oh well. You shouldn't be driving after taken this trip anyway! ha!
Kidding aside, I appreciate you giving it a listen, thanks!
dolby
It's all been said already - but it's great - a real trip - cheers.
(And as the only person here who is actually in India - this is working really well as I look out the window at the dragon fly's flitting about the coconut trees: sweet :-)
Phil
MJer gregd is also in India right now staying at an ashram somewhere. It would be cool if you guys could connect!
http://www.macjams.com/artist/gregd
Perhaps he still checks his notes once in awhile?
dynoMYSTIC
should like to know what the drum track is... sounds quite convincing. Seriously cool song... great vox, P. Floyd could have done this... but they didn't, but you did, and now you're famous.
bud
and let you know what it was. I'm pretty sure it was an apple loop from GB3 edited and juiced up a little. I might have added some TUMI loop too and then at the end there's apple loop tabla.
thoddi
I hear lots of retro connections in this one. The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues... Fab guitars. Fab work by you all!
Vic Holman
I really enjoy working with these guys. "The Post-Fab Four"
I have worked with them sperately, so it was a real pleasure to get every one involved together in one tune.
racerat
is getting all drippy. And have you really ever looked at the lines on a sheet of notebook paper. Like really looked? Like really really close. They start to move and bend a little, like that! Did you see that? Here watch. Give it a second....
ppppPPPPpppp
Vic Holman
..of college ruled paper laid out before me. I stare, I see double lines merging into a twisted pattern. First the walls breathe, the carpet travels fifty miles an hour. my eyes bore into tunnel vision and behold Philip pops some "P's" .....hey wait! Thats a trip right there!
Thanks Philip that was a great laugh! not sure how you did it, cool.
Philip and Vic's exchange here reminds me of an evening back in 1971.
I was peaking on orange-sunshine and sitting at a kitchen table. I accidently knocked over the salt-shaker and some granules spilled out and spread across the table. I got lost for at least an hour in the pastel coloured patterns which proceeded to emerge from the granules...
Then my buddy Douglas talked me into going out into the night and sitting on the curb so we could watch cars streeeeeeeetch down the street and around corners. (They did! And they had HUGE pastel-coloured fingerprints on them as well!)
After an hour or so of that we repaired back indoors and listened to "Live At Leeds." It sounded fantastic of course, but Doug kept interrupting at regular intervals to ask me "who" was playing! It turned into a psychedelic Abbot and Costello schtick!
Oh the life I've led...
...am I insane, or is there something about this tune that reminds me of that great old Gordie Lightfoot tune?
Amazing work... just bloody amazing work. What can I say when I'm the 48th guy thru the turnstiles? Nothing new, but damn, this is amazing. Why isn't Guitar Player Magazine putting you on the cover? Sometimes it seems like MJ is its own reality of music entirely, and everything 'out there' seems pointless and trite and done, done, DONE. Not entirely true or fair, but man, when I listen to this...
This should be on a vinyl LP. A coloured-vinyl edition with a poster. I'd buy it and call all my friends, and we'd sit in a dark room with the volume at Richter-scale levels and just drift...................
But I'd keep the poster.
...from the very beginning I also heard a strong similarity to Lightfoot's great tune. But I didn't say anything because I just assumed that it's because I'm nuts! Thank you Rik for reconfirming me in what little sanity I have left.
Be well!
Vic Holman
not the r&b singer right?
I think it's Mikes vocals, seems to have something close to the melody but not quite.
and not just a vinyl record on the old stereo but you also need one of those colored light boxes that connect to the stereo and pulse in time. remember those?
You can keep the poster. i think it was of burt reynolds.........naked.........on a bear skin rug.
Thanks Rik
telefan
The changes in feel in the middle of the song are really effective, as is the use of the tabla.
Vic Holman
I have collabed with all these guys separately on other songs. It was great to be able to get them all together on this song.
Heightened
This is an amazing song and an awesome collab!
yrp
is my favorite song on macjams ever!
kassia
go down your list of collabs and then i saw you had a few with bud and i was THRILLED! this is a KILLER track. amazing process of putting this together and getting each person's contribution. it all came together beautifully. i love this. really really cool.
kassia
the guitar jam in the middle is incredible, followed by those very cool tabla. and then the second vocals kick in. wow. what an experience.
