Description:
Autumn

You wake up and realize autumn has arrived.

The gold and red leaves chase each other in the wind. You walk out into the sunlight and breathe deeply. White cumulus clouds scurry across the azure blue sky. The geese are flying south and you say goodbye, sighing.

The wind dies down and night slowly settles over the land. Stillness… The stars look like diamonds. There is nothing to say; you can only marvel at the beauty.

In the morning you step outdoors to find that summer has returned, if only for a moment. Birds are singing, and little white butterflies are dancing in the sunlight.

Evening comes, and with it, the cool wind and clouds. You realize autumn has arrived.

Hmmmm! Roxy.. &mdash 10/19/07 - 05:06:47 PM
this Autumn seems to be inspiring a lot of people around here LOL. This is a lovely gentle piece and I don't know why, but it has a British feel to it for me... (Ok I'll let you have New England then LOL). Your music describes perfectly the lovely words you wrote above. I expected that you might have read/spoke those words too, which also would have been nice, Loved it anyway, regards M

I just typed in "autumn" in MacJams. I had no idea I stole the title, sorry, guys. Thank you for your nice comment, Maurice. British... Hmmm... must be the influence of all those fantastic UK musicians. I never thought of putting the words in there. Hey, feel free to add them; you have a great speaking voice! :-)

Awesome job &mdash 10/19/07 - 05:24:03 PM
Very well done Roxy! :-) I loved the playful piano interlude. How did you do it all? I don't recognize any loops. Have you bought a keyboard to interface with the G4.

God bless,

Rick

Hey, Rick &mdash 10/19/07 - 07:04:07 PM
Thanks for stoping by for a listen. :-) I knew I forgot something- I meant to add that this piece is all modified (green) loops. The fact that you didn't recognize them means I managed to disguise them. Yeah! <G> I'm glad you like this. Thanks for commenting. :-)

echoey &mdash 10/19/07 - 10:11:15 PM
funny. so far, every tune i've heard today (even my latest) includes some form of tape echo... there must be something in the air...

this makes me think of gently falling leaves. it works!

thanks

Yes, must be all those leaves... I just heard your latest and it's very cool. Thanks for dropping by and for saying it worked for you. (the leaves) :-)

You're quite amazing there... tweaking and arranging, and putting together something as tricky and pleasing as this is quite an art... and, may I add, in such a short time too, while babysitting! Very nice pencil-tool technique, and I see you are doing some fun experimenting with track echo, that actually worked nicely. It lined up so that at first I didn't even notice the echo, and then it slowly became apparent. Anyway, nice gentle tune, turning more bouncy and buffety, then returning to the original. I might have suggested ending on a different note (adding one last note down a whole step I think.) Overall, it was fun to listen to. Glad to hear you creating more music!

Drakonis

I'd like to take more credit, but... &mdash 10/19/07 - 11:40:14 PM
All I did to make this was to drag loops to the tracks, rearrange the notes, then stretch the loops out, and option-drag more notes to place them where I wanted them. As for the echo, I didn't select any extra effects, so tithe echo must have already been in the particular loops I used. I'm glad it meshed well. Thank you for chatting me up and for being such a great friend and encourager. :-)

sweeeeet !! &mdash 10/19/07 - 11:09:58 PM
i would have not guessed they were modified loops !! i do the same thing often but i don't do as good as you at disguising them. anyhow i liked it very much, relaxing and pleasant to my ears !!

Yeah, I don't play the piano, oboe, clarinet, flute, piccolo, 12 string, or bass, so I faked it all with GB. <G> Thanks for having a listen.:-)

Wait A Minute!! &mdash 10/19/07 - 11:43:28 PM
You mean all of what I just heard was loops? There was no piano playing or anything like that? Wow!! How'd you do that? This piece was quite lovely. I just drove from Yonkers, NY to Peekskill and back again....and oh yes, this song definitely reflects the red and gold scenes I witnessed on my morning drive!

I just commented back to Drakonis, explaining how I made the piece. It's not all that hard, but it is time consuming. Hey, did you see that Peekskill is my home town? Thank you for commenting. :-)

Beautiful and interesting &mdash 10/22/07 - 03:05:31 AM
Interesting and beautiful.

The volume level sounds low here, but that is not a problem as long as the next song I play isn't a loud one and I have forgotten to turn the volume down :)

Very original and inventive, and a palatable piece of music.

I am happy that you enjoyed my instrumental. :-)Hmm... it doesn't sound any softer than the other songs in my iTunes folder, so I had no idea! . So perhaps I should record my GB tunes a bit louder in case the volume is too low for others...To do a sound adjustment, should I change the levels in GB, or elevate it in iTunes? There's a lot I need to learn about mixing and settings, and I appreciate your input. Thank you for coming by to listen. :-)

LOVELY &mdash 10/22/07 - 08:44:13 AM

Hi, Marc &mdash 10/24/07 - 06:47:58 AM

Funny... &mdash 10/25/07 - 09:55:12 PM
As I was listening, my the question foremost in my mind was whether or not those were loops. Tweaking the loops gives you so much more. Good to see you putting in the effort. It worked.

Thanks for sharing.

My two cents... &mdash 10/27/07 - 01:34:34 PM
roxylee...
I don't know how anyone manages to make sense out of loops. By themselves, there are such cool things out there for the taking. But it takes a really creative imagination to "loop 'em all together" ... I am really amazed by this little piece: a pastiche of colors that perfectly describe the season, esp. where you live! How fun this is. It going straight to my nano. I hope you will start doing more of this imaginative art. It is so peaceful and you seem to find just the right sounds to make your thoughts sing.
Peace.
Paul

Wow, Paul &mdash 10/27/07 - 10:53:15 PM
Thank you. :-) It humbles me to think a great composer has my loop tune in his iPod. It's funny, I forget that autumn is different on the west coast. Yet you felt the leaf color feelings in the music. This is very cool to me. :-)

I agree with a lot of people here, you DO have a gift of painting pictures in people's heads! I love this piece, I could feel the cool, crisp air and almost smell the air...oh wait, my window's open. J/K =) Great job, keep 'em coming!

I'm really pleased you liked this.I don't know much composing a classical piece and it basically wrote itself.I was hoping it would convey what I was feeling. I'm glad it did. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. :-)

Autumn... &mdash 11/25/07 - 11:27:43 AM
This is nicely done!

Autumn is an especially inspiring subject for me as well. I live in a little valley in CA which is one of the very few places out here that has significant Fall color--not to rival New Engl, but exquisite nonetheless.

I'd already commented on this. I guess I stopped by, listened and then dreamed I'd made a comment. Not a good sign! Anyway, this is very nice. You evoke the season very well, and I was surprised to realize you'd done everything in loops. Very cool piece. Nice, contented sound, and then the wonderful change of mood. Very nice work. Peace.

Very Good &mdash 01/18/08 - 10:08:41 PM
I saw your Bio and I have to say that you undersell yourself. I have played with loops and getting themes like this are not easy. I am just glad that this forum and software like GarageBand have allowed musicians like us to blossom. Good choice of instruments. The woodwind loops are really clean. They can't be from the standard ones in GB can they? Do you use an orchestral loop pack.? Very peaceful and visual. Thanks for sharing

the melancholic solos in the middle of your piece, becoming duets and quartets as the melody develops is quite mesmerizing and enjoyable.
