Song Description

Lucky

Some sort of pseudo-jazz-like old-pop contraption with horns.

Usually, as the days get shorter this time of year, I find myself getting rather depressed. There's an official name for that condition, with a truly appropriate acronym. So it's a doubly good thing that this upbeat tune showed up on my doorstep this week. As I opened the door, I think I may have caught a glimpse of the Muses Express delivery van driving off. I'm lucky to have come up with this tune, and lucky to enjoy listening to it. Hope you enjoy it too!

Hey, Bill, this is cool, peppy, and fun! I'm glad you answered the door for this delivery.

another inexplicable tune. i really don't know where these things come from.

glad you liked this.

i find the idea of "Muses Express" to be rather funny in itself...

thanks

chasing the leaves away &mdash 10/20/07 - 07:29:06 AM
Although a little frenetic at times, its definitely upbeat (and downbeat, leave no beat unturned) music.

it's also fun at times to leave no "turn" unturned.

thanks for listening

Very into... &mdash 10/20/07 - 04:23:41 PM
...the changes or rhythm and theme...

...enjoyed very much, thanks...great intro with the horns. Right in there...

i usually limit myself to loops that use software instruments since they can be edited into whatever i need. but here i blended some audio loops. i picked a few with two generally contrasting beats - although this song is all the same tempo.

i like that horn thing too. i heard it in my "mind's ear" and penciled it together.

thanks

Really like &mdash 10/20/07 - 04:48:21 PM
the way this flows and changes but always interesting and fun yo listen to. Excellent and very good production.
Cheers

that guitar part that plays unison, and then thirds, and then fifths was kind of silly, but it was fun anyway. and the organ lead was totally impromptu - definitely the work of Muses on that.

i'm happy to hear you liked this - it was fun putting it together

thanks

Hoppin' &mdash 10/20/07 - 07:53:32 PM
What ever you are doing with those jazzy keys on this one, keep it up. Nice guitar melodies also. I find this a very interesting listen. Lots to hear and a lot of fun too.

Thanks
Bill

thanks Bill

it was lots of fun doing this one. the keys came from outer space. maybe some more will fall from the sky again someday.

i keep finding more organ synthesizers in the GB JamPacks - where did Apple find all this stuff anyway?

Hey I know that (official) name! &mdash 10/20/07 - 09:41:39 PM
And this IS a nice antidote...It's like...It's like...skating music for when there isn't ice yet!

Neat sounds, and neat change-ups... It's almost a suite of change-ups... Well suited to my autumnal attention span...

huh! i guess it *is* a study of change-ups... hadn't thought about it that way.

i hear you about the "skating music" - it's that goofy organ sound isn't it? i guess that sound was really popular long ago. i'm reminded of one of the Wallace and Gromit movies - the one with the evil penguin in it - where all he plays in his rented room are these horrible organ-only covers of tunes like "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree"

thanks Ed

I share your autumnal affliction &mdash 10/20/07 - 11:22:36 PM
but I'm getting through it better this year with the help of my friends here at MJ. Who can be depressed with tunes like this dropping into their email? Pretty freakin awesome ditty dude. This is yet another side of Smokey. What are you - some kind of polyhedron?

MJ is certainly a good outlet for expression. last year i was in a bad place due to some health issues at home - and lots of music came out of that.

(i like to think of myself as a triangle - an obtuse one. my wife thinks i'm acute.)

thanks Bud

Well &mdash 10/21/07 - 04:43:27 PM
led from one beat to the other... Very bright and enjoyable I must say and the keys sound good in the mix too... A real winter brightener... so you might not need the vitamin D after all LOL, cheers M
