Description:
Another traditional song, featuring the mandolin, button accordion, and dobro. There's also electric piano, and I have a drack of dobro played with an e-bow that sounds like it might be musical saw, and a vocal track with the Spectral Dronemaker that sounds like a synth track, and the usual Drums on Demand loops. I kept thinking that I was going to break into "On Top of Spaghetti" while singing this and even now think that maybe I'll redo the vocal with that set of lyrics.

WOW .. This is what do we call it a SONG !

The music in the background is very touchy, has a special feel and way of writing .. (VERY FINE) ..

I Love your vocal .. This is a really great song Sir Jim.
I'm so glad to see you backed with your wonderful style and pieces !

tradition resurrected &mdash 10/21/07 - 11:30:30 AM
You certainly seem to revitalise Folk in such a weird and wonderful way.
Or is it that I%u2019m behind the times ?

In any case, I%u2019m hooked.

Nice singing Jim &mdash 10/22/07 - 09:06:08 AM
I love this sort of stuff - loads of weird shit going on in the background and some real soft flourishes up front - and like I say a real nice vocal.

Top notch,
Phil

Not about a meatball! &mdash 10/22/07 - 11:36:43 AM
I could listen to your voice all day. After this (and everything else I've heard of yours), I have to say you are among my favorite singers.

And the musicianship is great as always. I wish I could be of more service and give you criticism, but I just enjoy your work too much, I guess, because I can't think of anything. Every thing sounds balanced, your arrangement is engaging and unique, vocal performance great. You manage to make every folk song you remake a secret I'm so glad to know. I wish more people knew about what great work you do.

Also, I'm ashamed to say, I only ever knew the version of this that's about a poor meatball covered in cheese!!!

Wistful... &mdash 10/22/07 - 07:16:47 PM
...I'm so used to it in the major key. But this really is the way to play it.

Nice instrumentation and production, too, Jim.

oddly enough... &mdash 10/22/07 - 09:31:44 PM
I recorded this with just the mandolin and vocal first in a major key. Then when poking around on the button box to find the buttons that would work with this song, I found the minor keys and there you have it. The button box is fairly tricky to work with because the diatonic arrangement of buttons is rather labyrinthian in how it's laid out, and I usually find that only certain buttons are in the correct key (and in tune with) for whatever I am doing. I sort of got the button box like a monkey's paw, it's more of a curse than a gift. Long story, perhaps we should leave it at that.

I didn't re-record the original parts I had, which is why they stay a the jazzy minor-7th realm, but I think it all works together nicely. For once I didn't feel compelled to put in a bass part, since the button box fills that out nicely, so all-in-all this was pretty satisfying to record. I'm glad you liked it!

It is very excellent.
Song that feels inside.

And Johnny breaks out that ol &mdash 10/25/07 - 02:19:57 AM
E Bow after all. What a great sound. The sounds it makes, like the Kareoke Inkspots played on a saw. I like the rest of it too, but you know me JB, soft spot for the bow. Plus...me ol bro plays a saw.
