Description:
an older tune. open D tuning
I've never had this experience but I can imagine losing a child could pretty much take all the light out of your life. I wonder how folks feel who have lost theirs to causes that so many have called worthless mistakes.

Lyrics:
I am an old man
I came over here from an old land
I worked real hard
Saved my pay
Took it all and bought a home one day

In '65 I gave my son
to a thng called Vietnam
Way back then I kept my head held high
Now all I do is wonder why
and say

Damn the time
Damn the years that left me lonely

My time is short
I reminisce
Was there any good reason for the things I did
It's too late to turn back now
And all I do is wonder why
and say

Damn the time
Damn the years that left me lonely

On the guitar I double tracked it. with the second one I played it right in front of the monitor so it got a little feedback and rattle goin. It was one of those happy accidents.

Wonderful song. &mdash 10/21/07 - 10:56:29 PM
Love the lyrics and simple delivery.Your vocal style and sound in combination with your guitar playing mesh so well together.Could have been a song from the 60's and nobody would be the wiser.Yet another fine posting that was much enjoyed.

Blessings,

I don't try to sound like the sixties, but certain things just sound right to my ear, so I have to go with them. This song was also recorded on tape so that probably helps it get that sound.I'm not really sure if I can get away from that and still like what I'm doing.

Paul, this is a really wonderful song, the guitar work here seems Country-Western type, i love your vocal as always .. This song express many of fathers feelings who lost their children in a bad situation just like what happened in Iraq war .. Loved This Piece My Friend
Well Done !

I love that guitar playing, it's very intricate and gentle and mixes just right with your singing. Plus, of course, really good songwriting with real emotion.

ouch, I don't know that worthless deaths is what I'm trying to convey. I think the human experience is a lot more complicated than that. War sucks, but a lot of things suck. Not the least of which are Maniacs with power.

Nice playing.

sad tune...bout your son...
I was a boy in 65,9yrs old
the Beatles were all over the place and I remember the way the boys names who died in nam, use to scroll at the end of the news on TV
i hated it

and still do

I feel lonely listening to this song.

I hope you have
peace
at times

this isn't a biographical song. I was just imagining what it might be like for someone. My son is fine. Thanks for listening Tim don't stay down for long, if you got kids let em know how dear they are to you. Man, I hope like hell I don't outlive mine, that's got to be the worst.
