Description:
This mix is supposed to be a back drop to some sort of totalitarian state video. It's dark but not unbearably so.

It does seem, at times, that this is the way the world is headed. Only people can change this, not governments. The governments are put there by the people. Don't forget that!! You have your choice.

I'm getting analytical &mdash 10/22/07 - 03:50:13 PM
again, but I have been wondering how this piece holds my attention so well despite the very low key development of the changes it introduces, especially before the 5 minute mark. You seem to be gifted with 'the touch' my friend! This works so very well. Love the ultra-low bass - it has my sub-woofer doing its job and rattling my office ceiling tiles! Also like the varying beat pattern, makes me think of someone running - away or towards is not clear, but the area is not well lit and it is night and not safe.

Thanks for sharing Paul,
Keep well,
Doug

I love the image...... &mdash 10/23/07 - 12:38:00 AM
I love the image your thoughts create whilst listening to the mix. It all fits together very well.

There are three or four other mixes of this, with other instruments taking the fore, but none of them fit together as well as this mix. If I tell the truth, this is my favourite mix of 2007, with Flowers in the Hair coming second, for different reasons.

Police State is one mix for my portfolio CD, if I even require one.

Take care.

Paul.

abstract &mdash 10/23/07 - 01:13:28 AM
if I put my abstract glasses on,I'm crawling out of a canal into a dark november night and all the street lights look like they are melting together and all I have is a gun.If I put my film glasses on I'm seeing excerpts of taxi-driver,clockwork orange, and a weird program i saw once called 'nightmare man' in which everything you saw through his eyes was red.Cheers - love the rippling/gargling type effects -

Thanks Rich.... &mdash 10/23/07 - 11:12:54 AM
I think that your description is wonderful. I could tell more about my original ideas for this piece but it's a world village and I don't want to offend anyone with my personal opinion (and experience). Five or six police forces in my town whilst living there tell a story of its own, and most of them non-military.

Yours' and Dougs thoughts are very well received and help me to think about other mixes I have in the pipeline.

Take care.

Paul.

totalitarian &mdash 10/24/07 - 07:14:53 PM
is an apt description; although try this on for size: the resistance has been gaining strength and are just about to come out of hiding and bring about a fresh start. they are gathering in quiet dark places, they're scared and they know it has to be done. they will prevail.

If that's the future...... &mdash 10/25/07 - 12:45:10 AM
If that's the future Michael, then here's my credit card number........buy me a ticket!!! I think that the end is sure, from your description/picture.

The piece is something that grew out of my auditioning many sound fonts for interesting, quality sounds, and one thing led to another and another, and the undulating synth sound made it all fit together.

It reminded me of a place I worked in many years ago, called 'Town of the little Mountain', somewhere in the Gulf region. Whether that's a gulf of ideas, culture, centuries I wouldn't want to hazard a guess.

Thanks for listening and leaving your thoughts.

Take care.

Paul.
