Description:
I wrote it about a girl - for a girl who I found really cute - on the day I asked her out some other guy had beaten me to it and 15 years later they are married so thats good - alls well and I'm happy about it.But I always remember it as a weird time because there was a murder in the room below the room I was renting - quite violent and none of my friends would come round to the house.It was quite stressful as I had no idea who was guilty and for all I knew he could have been living in one of the other rooms which as it turns out he was.Anyway - she came round to visit regardless of the fact that she was going out with someone else - and of the murder and she really helped me through that difficult time.She was really into the song so I thought I'd have a shot at re-recording it but I think the eq may be all to pot.I had a terrible nightmare on one of those nights - I always sleep face down in bed,and I saw a figure drifting towards me from out of a black void coming closer and closer till he literally passed through my body (like in those crummy ghost films) and I had one of those sleep paralysis moments and finally shot awake in quite a state.

The picture is of Sarah Patterson as Red Riding Hood in the film 'The Company of Wolves' which I always found really gothic.

I don't know which I like better, the amazing story about this song or the song itself! I was cracking up, the murder downstairs? Just too perfect, or is this all just a Halloween ruse? I can just see you slaving over this wonderful melody as a man is being murdered below, just hoping to kindle your loves flame. I love the melody and the vocal delivery is amazing, particularly the bridge. I would love to hear this with the EQ bits cleaned up and the orchestration pumped up a little. Great reverb, totally gothic and scarey!

Yes - its a Halloween ruse,but the story is also true.I may be fond of writing way-out lyrics but i wouldnt even try and bother making something like that up for a description.
It was an stoned,drunk who hit his brother with an iron bar and then (etc - i'll leave it there.)

I agree with you - both on eq and orchestration.I really am going to have to invest in something that makes halfway decent string and piano sounds - as Tobin Mueller as been pointing out to me for about 6 years now.So thats on my agenda for...well - at least next christmas.Never be scared of giving critisicm criticism crit - oh however you *@£! say it.I am guilty of not giving enough I think.Yeah Gothiky i like sometimes - in subtle autumnal doses at least

Immediately reminded me of The Divine Comedy anyway...

Agree about the strings being a little on the artificial sound, but otherwise this sounds great - love the low rumbly vocal, and thread of whimsy running throughout.

Infectious little melody as well. Wouldn't normally check out anything in the *showtunes* catagory - but glad I did.

Great song and a great story to go with it. The vocals are especially good, even by your standards. I'm not bothered by the EQ issues if there are any ... I don't hear things like that, I just respond to the song itself. And it's very good indeed.

Anyway, I'm glad the girl was kind and supportive even if no relationship resulted.

..shades of Neil Hannon. Just love the long drawn out

towards the end.. with everything sounding nicely
beefed up and cinematically creepy... even a holwling
wolf thrown in for good measure.

Fine vocals and a great arrangement. Shades of Tim Burton.

The story is to die for (bad taste but I couldn't resist it) and also a little spooky as I'm working on a song called Monsters with werewolves howling in the night.

And the thing that really got my attenion is that you are the only person that I've heard of who has had that "paralysis moments" - Now that's SCARY! The scariest thing that's ever happened to me. That happened to me and it made me momentarily, religious! I mean I rebuked and everything!!! There's nothing worse! It was as if another spirit had taken over my body - And I'm not so sure that I wanna believe in this sorta thing and in fact, until this moment, I'd been successful at maintaining a thorough sense of denial of having had that experience.

I have it regularly - have had ever since I was young.I used to be terrified and then I put it down to maybe being a visionary since the dreams were always so way out - and quite a scource of inspiration,really but often incredibly disturbing.They always involve a slow visual & emotional metamorphosis probably cos its something that fascinates me.Now I just put it down to being odd.

A recurring nightmare I have though is of animals getting their claws into my skin like hooks and I can never shake them off and the pain gets worse and worse until I start screaming but cant open my mouth and eventually wake up realising I'm hyperventilating.WEIRD

Just in time :) Very clever lyrics with a kind of show tune melodic quality. Fun stuff!!! On the other hand my speakers are still shaking from the bass drum, maybe a bit too much.

haha sorry to make your speakers shake - I'm a night owl so I do everything when people are asleep witch means on headphones.I should really re-do this song,as I've got a decent piano and string sound now.This song and about 40 other ones that have the same rubbish yamaha sounds on them.I must say I'm prouder of the song than I am of my recording of it,and this is about the 3rd time Ive tried it over 15 years.

my rocker mates used to look a right picture dressing up to go to the rocky horror show.Theres nothing worse than a bunch of drunk metallica fans wearing stockings n suspenders.
