Harmonies &mdash 10/31/07 - 11:37:25 AM

You find wonderfull chords progressions .
The playing is very peacefull , it seems you remember this place as a calm atmosphere with the nature all around .
It 's wonderfull to play a rich music only with one instrument .
Thank you for sharing .

I have &mdash 11/01/07 - 07:02:46 AM
a very basic recording setup and I don't really know how to use loops, etc. So for now I just like playing solo guitar.I very much appreciate your comments!

Delicacy &mdash 10/31/07 - 11:59:47 AM
I haven't spent much time in Colorado, but I love how the mountains are right there like that... I always thought that would be a cool setting. Great playing, and I like how the reverb gives the recording a warm, open space quality.

I'm just &mdash 11/01/07 - 07:07:03 AM
plugging my guitar straight into a Line 6 Tone Port. The reverb comes from that.I guess I was trying to get a Pat Metheny-type sound.Really glad you like the song.

Wow! &mdash 10/31/07 - 12:09:06 PM
love this kind of playing Its sounds as if you are playing 2 guitar tracks but I envision this as just one guitar! Blown away thanks for sharing something so beautiful!

Congratulations &mdash 11/01/07 - 07:16:33 AM
on your new daughter!I heard "Happy Pappy" which is great.
I have worked a lot on keeping my right hand thumb independent so I can play a seperate bass line and kind of sound like 2 guitars.
I highly appreciate your comments.Thanks!

Into my Mark Stunkel collection &mdash 10/31/07 - 12:15:27 PM
You are one of the artists here whose music I download before I listen, because the quality of your composing and playing is so high.

This is beautifully and sensitively played. It is very easy and very pleasant to give myself over to this song to let it take me where you intended. Thank you for the journey.

I have only visited &mdash 10/31/07 - 12:15:53 PM
Boulder once, but it was a lovely place as your music so very clearly reflects. This piece is a tender offering that I find captures the magic, calm, and wonder of being in that special place at that formative time. It has an almost golden hour of the setting sun feel to it. Beautiful!!

Thanks for sharing and keep well,
Doug

Most beautiful place in the world, I'd say &mdash 10/31/07 - 03:55:14 PM
Especially for a kid growing up. And this piece reflects on that reality. Beautiful writing, wonderfully played, and excellently recorded Mark.

Thank you so much for sharing a part of your youth with all of us.

about effortless or mastery-I get pretty frustrated sometimes.I highly appreciate your comments however.

Are you in Boston now? &mdash 10/31/07 - 05:52:15 PM
Because if you are then I could understand your longing for Co. :)
Really nice playing here IBS, reminds me of a CD I have with Pat Metheny, Frissell and a couple of other famous guys, You put some genuine feelings into this and it shows.

Yea I live outside of Boston. It's quite a bit different from Colorado.I do like some of Pat Metheny's music-he's a great guitarist.I was also kind of thinking James Taylor with this.Thans for the comments glad you like the song!

One of the nice things... &mdash 10/31/07 - 08:22:21 PM
...about you being named 'Mark Stunkel' is that it's so easy, after I download your latest tune, to add it to my MacJams playlist, my MacJams Favorites playlist, my MacJams Instrumental playlist, and my MacJams Acoustic Instrumental playlist, (even though that last one is cheating, it's my playlist, and I do what I please with it)...and then drop it into my Mark Stunkel playlist...

You always have tremendous feel and tone, Mark, and a great sense of melody and harmony... Soon we will teach you to embed the graphic element in your mp3 in iTunes, and you will be the fully realized bionic musician...

Nice mountains. Bet you can spot Double Domed Reversed Lesser Pileated Baublesnatchers in mountains like that...

As always thanks for your comments and for giving me high ratings to counteract the vote vote bomber(s) who seem to hate everything I post.Actually I think it's quite funny-reminds me of the guy who came up to me at a solo guitar gig and asked me to play the "Achy-Breaky Heart".

Boulder, CO... &mdash 10/31/07 - 09:24:24 PM
...is one of my favorite cities. Climbed the Flatirons. Lots of hiking and the nightlife's great.

And this piece is great. Just a perfect blend of technique, emotion, and painting of the picture. This is beautiful, Mark. And extremely well played. Your guitar shines...

seems a perfect site for this post. it is sweeping, mellow, and shows a hihg level of talent. but you know all this.... i liked your chord progressions and the smooth mix. a touch more high end might have taken out the slight muddiness of the reverb to my ear, but overall, very good tune. thanks for posting this one. faved!

Wistful Memory &mdash 11/01/07 - 10:16:29 AM
Very pleasant and relaxed tune, Mark and played in a style that adds purity... and clarity... to the piece.

The mental images it evokes are clean and serene, with life flowing all around, bubbling into consciousness in the latter part of the tune.

Your *Rocky Mountain... Hi!* ? ;)

It's probably &mdash 11/02/07 - 10:02:27 PM

Really &mdash 11/01/07 - 10:58:07 AM
enjoyed this soothing piece. Just a thought, but it might have been even better with just a little more dynamic range. But still an excellent piece as is.

[ Reply to This ]
You are right &mdash 11/02/07 - 10:08:18 PM
about the dynamics-I should pay more attention to that. It's a little tricky cause I'm using really light strings because of left hand problems.Playing too hard makes them buzz, playing too soft gives no sound.Glad you liked the song anyway!

your compositions are as heart wrenching and meloncholy as any I have heard... this is really a stunning piece of music... there is an instrumental piece of music by weather report call "a remark you made"... this has the same emotional impact on me... a genuine jewel...

Heavy Weather &mdash 11/02/07 - 10:50:40 PM
What a great album-"A Remark You Made" is one of my favorites.A few other musical selections which have always affected me(totally unrelated)-Dvorak-Serenade for Strings in E major,Tony Bennett singing "Waltz for Debby" with Bill Evans.Duane Allman's solo in"Blue Sky", Lester Young's solo on "Lady be Good" with Count Basie's small group,Julian Bream playing Britten's "Nocturnal".
I am pleased and honored that you like my music-I don't know anything about recording. To have someone like you who knows it inside out pay attention to what I am doing is amazing. Thanks!

Lovely relaxed playing. Your chord progressions are familiar, and well executed with that nice melody line, and the independent bass line moving in and out. It's just so very pleasant to listen to. (slightly melancholy smile on my face as I write.)
