Earlier this year, Cat came over to Phoenix to visit. We did some amazing recordings during the long weekend which became known as the infamous 'Phoenix Sessions'

One of the songs that came from those sessions was called f r e q u e n c i e s. I dubbed it a love song dedicated to the alien technology on South Mountain.

I asked a couple of people if they would try to add glitchy beats to it.

Chris (Gossamertread) rose to the challenge and applied this interesting rhythmic backdrop to the piece (totally transforming it)

A nice and inspiring track, the soundscapes are brilliant and the beats are well composed. I really do like them. Cat's voice adds a nice, gentle touch to the track. All elements are really well done. Cool track.

.. are way cooler than the Canadians here cause you all visit each other in person and do stuff !!! I am so jealous ! I want a real live collab .... sigh ! Ever hear my "tuvan throat singing" ???? heh heh .... I think you could throw something like that on this one .. and take it to a whole new element .... being "experimental and all" .... but all that nonsense aside .... (HEY ... beer Friday ... remember) .... this does have that alien beat and feel to it ... always a good choice when you get Cat involved too !

Welllll....Bryn didn't just 'get me involved' in this.

We had equal part in the creation of the original track 'f r e q u e n c i e s.'

It was a sort of round-robin: he did one electronic part, then I added another or suggested an addition, etc. , and the same with the vocal parts as well.
That was the magic of this particular piece--it literally unfolded bit by bit and took shape before our eyes and ears.

The added 'glitchy beats' by Gossamertread was Bryn's idea and upon his invitation.
Because I'm so darned harmonic in my music and listening, the fact that the beat doesn't match the original track was really hard to get my ears around at first, but I finally visualized it as the 'alien technology' on South Mountain trying to communicate with 'Island of Misfit Toys' through an Atari :D

And now it makes perfect sense! ;)

A quasi natrual-electro-ambient kind of jam. It has a soothing personalness (I just love to make up words) with a good amount of electronic engineering. Interesting.
