Description:
a song I wrote years ago for a friend of mine, but never recorded properly until now. Written under heavy XTC influence (the band, not the drug!)

Lyrics:
She draws the shade and greets a bird that sings nearby
she lifts her eyes up to the sun that lights the sky
undoes her hair and lets her curls fall in her face
if there's a heaven then this must be the place

she picks a flower, tucks her hair behind her ear
she would be happy but it hasn't been her year
her hearts aflutter every time he passes by
he doesn't notice her - it makes her want to cry

she holds an invitation in her little hands -
little fingers, but big demands
seeking his attention as she walks on by
begging his affection, but she don't know why
he's watching with a blind eye

oh my, a smile could bring you to your knees
and high above the star are bright, but not like eyes like these

she holds....etc

she draws the shade and greets the world that sleeps nearby
she lifts her eyes up to the moon that lights the sky
pins up her hair and puts her necklace in it's case
if there's an angel then this must be the face

she holds an invitation in her little hands -
little fingers, but big demands
seeking his attention as she walks on by
begging his affection, but she don't know why
he's watching with a blind eye
he's watching with a blind eye
he's watching with a blind eye

Good tune Brian &mdash 11/04/07 - 12:28:11 AM
You never fail to amaze me. I don't have any critique for you though, your miles ahead of me in all areas. Do you ever do any shows on the central coast?

I don't play live anymore. Too old! Full time job gets in the way, too. I miss it a little sometimes, but I don't miss the late nights and lugging equipment around. Music is back to being a hobby and I think I enjoy it more that way. Thanks for asking and even more so, for listening.

Excellent job. &mdash 11/04/07 - 12:42:15 AM
Certainly has XTC influeneces. You've got a fine tune here. All sorts of fine elements here, but the XTCish vocal and guitar work is really solid and stands out to make this one of those instant favorites.Good stuff!

Blessings,

Wonderful... &mdash 11/04/07 - 08:15:35 AM
a new Brian D song. I knew today would be a good one.
Played it three times straight and, of course, it's now stuck in my head forever.
Your song writing ability is second to none - great infectious lyrics and deceptively simple sounding music (anything but simple).
Who needs Logic when you can make GB sound this good. Fantastic.
Cheers
Len

I couldn't make heads or tails of Logic Express. I've heard it's gotten a little easier, but it wasn't intuitive at all (for me anyway) - Maybe someday I'll try the full version (work gets me a major discount) but they keep improving Garageband and I'm quite happy with it, so why change?

thanks for listening - I'm glad you like the song. It's quite old (about 14 years) - I dusted it off because the friend I wrote it for is going through chemo right now and I thought it would cheer her up. it did : )

cheers!

you're back. excellent job. i love your songwriting (yes it is reminiscent of XTC), but sometimes I find myself listening to your stuff and wondering "how the hell did he get that to sound this good?" you really manage to get it to sound like a band, with plenty of dynamics and use of rhythm and breaks. i find myself not having the time to master the equipment, and working around my deficiencies (the end result not sounding like a band at all); but you have really got it nailed.

i don't miss lugging equipment around either; it's a shame that we didn't run into each other on the club scene while we were both out there (you're only in SF right?). Ah well, life is mystery. great stuff.

thanks michael &mdash 11/04/07 - 08:41:55 PM
the secret? OVERDUBS! and many of them! also, virtually no compression - lots of panning. sometimes I think I overdo it, but I can't help myself - I feel like everything should sound like Abbey Road! I wouldn't worry if I were you - your stuff sounds great as it is. Be who you are.

thanks for listening!

Abbey Road should take notice &mdash 11/07/07 - 12:14:57 AM
I have to laugh Brian just thinking that you've perfected the same sound as a multi million dollar studio all from a free recording progarm. Touché again Apple.

And kudos again Brian.

Magic words. You can't go wrong when Andy is your god. He's mine, too. King of Wishful Thinking anyone, genius.....

I can't believe I haven't heard you before. I have a lot of back catalogue listening to do here. You have really great mixing skills. I could learn a lot here.

Thanks for the great song.
