Description:
I thought I'd also repost this as a new one - I've redone the chorus somewhat based on feedback I received. Thanks for all your input. I hope it makes for a better song!

Lyrics:
remember average Joe
the one from that first show
the nice guy, who went home alone
he thought he’d won her heart
but he forgot the part
that he’s still an average Joe

then people felt really sad
and they felt rather bad
that he was still all alone
so they gave him his own reality show
and the average Joe became

the average Schmo Schmo, Schmo Schmo
the average Joe Joe, Joe Joe
became the average Schmo Schmo, Schmo Schmo

knick knack paddy wack
look out average Joe is back
but now it’s up to him to choose
and he’s got very little to lose
and everything to gain
and hopefully with little pain
he’ll get himself a lovely wife
and have a really beautiful life

but when it gets to the end
he’s got two women standing there
waiting for him to decide
he starts to panic when
his parents give him their advice
and he knows what he should really do, but he can’t
he’s in too deep and it’s too late for him to not be a fool

Joe Joe, Joe Joe, became the average Schmo Schmo, Schmo Schmo
the average Joe Joe, Joe Joe, became the average Schmo Schmo, Schmo Schmo

just when you thought it was safe
to say an average Joe
would not make such a mistake
we give a real life one his own reality show
and this average Joe became

the average Schmo Schmo, Schmo Schmo
the average Joe Joe, Joe Joe
became the average Schmo Schmo, Schmo Schmo

the average, the average Joe
became the average Schmo
the average, I say the average Joe
became the average Schmo

Quirky, cool, and... &mdash 09/08/04 - 10:55:19 AM
a fun little song. I really like all the sounds you bring into this. It all fits with the schmo theme. Very fun and enjoyable.

The music accompaniment to your vocals is very
interesting in its sound textures, lots of little tidbits to
savor. The rhythm is catchy and suits the lyrics perfectly.

The music texture is so rich and interesting that it almost
distracted me from the vocals. I wonder if there's a
different vocal effect that you could use to make it more
"distinctive" and cut through more effectively in this mix,
somehow?

You have a very nice voice! A few words were hard to
understand, sort of swallowed, but the intonation and
delivery were very good.

You tightened up the chorus well, and the overall effect of
this song has been improved. Good job!!

I like what you've done &mdash 09/09/04 - 10:46:40 PM
Glad you went back into this one. It's much more effective
now. The "backup" chorus, kinda bitcrushed and very
quirky works wonders on this. Too bad I can't compare
the original, but I know this is better.

Great quirks &mdash 09/09/04 - 11:56:00 PM
Love the quirky sounds and lyrics. Nice textures, and your voice really worked well in it. Didn't catch the original but do like this version. Only thing that seems a little out of place/jarring is the 1/8 note drum hits at the end of the choruses (bang bang bang bang bang bang bang). But, this is a really minor quibble - not to worry about. You probably gave a lot of details about how you put it together, but I'd love to know your process for this song.

Great quirks &mdash 09/27/04 - 07:01:29 PM
thanks for your comments Neil. Sorry it took so long to get back to you - I
hope you find this message. I just layered alot of different sounds together to
get that quirky thing going - lots of sounds from Bitshift - they're great. Had
lots of tracks going at the same time - my processor was really panting and
heaving! Yeah I wanted the bang bang bang (8th note effect) on purpose, for
the effect.

Very fun. &mdash 09/10/04 - 04:38:41 PM
I liked the song as a whole. Quirky seems to be the word
of the day here and it's probably the best word for the
song. Arrangement and choice of textures is great.

I did, however have trouble listening to the mix. While
production is clean, the recording seems to have lots of
width and needs a little depth. The vocals get lost once in
a while which is ashame since they were very well done.
They were a bit dry.

Great song, very original!

Better vocals &mdash 09/11/04 - 07:58:11 PM
I like the approach to the chorus. I do have to agree
with DC as the vocals get lost in places, but also at
times seem to rise above the song in others.
However, this is something I struggle with all the
time, myself. There needs to be a tutorial on how to
land vocals in a track, heh!

Still, the song is still great and OH so true.

Funny and smart &mdash 09/14/04 - 09:48:49 PM
I like this-- it's creative as all get out, and it's funny pop. I
like how you use the word average-- aver, average joe joe
etc. It's musical, rhythmic and funny at the same time.
Kinda Go Gos turning their college educated attention to
Joe schmo. Very well done.

You really do it up in an intelligent way. I'm off to check
out your other tracks.
