Description:
A re-recording of an old song but with harmonies.

Lyrics:

Lyrics:
Do you remember it was early spring,
Outside the window a bird was singing
you were in the garden with the children playing

We woke up early with the rising sun
We had our problems we had our fun
Driving through the country we were always laughing

And the days still seem long
And whatever comes your way its meant to be

Do you remember the evening breeze,
Blowing gently through the pine trees
You were painting pictures of a clear horizon

We played music in the firelight
The comets fell that starry night
Everything seemed simple pure and bright

well the days still seem long
And whatever may go wrong its meant to be

Well I remember how I broke your heart
We'd always known right from the start
that someday we'd be sure to say goodbye
Wherever you may choose to go
I wish you well and I hope you know
In the time we had together we loved a lifetime

Lovely &mdash 11/06/07 - 03:28:12 PM
I love this song! The mandolin (?) is so crystalline. The harmonies are like butter. I can just feel the sun on my skin and the tickle of the grass on my back. But alas! No download button? Shame!
Best as always!
Philip

I just &mdash 11/06/07 - 05:42:18 PM
love vocal harmony, but it's not easy to harmonise with ones self unless you have a good vocal range as you will know, but this is really a delight. The instrument Mandolin?/ guitar with Capo? LOL sounds nice and light, good song and lyrics, Thanks, M

Sorry.. &mdash 11/07/07 - 10:13:45 AM
I wasn't being derogatory about your playing abilities(i.e. Capo), I just couldn't place the sound, not having heard many Balalaika accompaniments... so pardon my ignorance LOL, cheers M

On the contrary Mr maurice - I was having a minimal day that day and gave a minimal answer.I often use a capo - I'd have a bugger of a night if I was trying to do a show though as I can't remember what key I've done any of the songs in.Dorogatory is one of my favourite words by the way. Thanks very much for taking time to comment - I often don't

Amazing... &mdash 11/06/07 - 10:32:53 PM
...how two instruments and harmonies can sound so full and so delicate at the same time...

...beautiful tune...

hope its not too trebly - audacity is ok but so irritating to edit with.I only used it cos its the only thing Ive got that will record on an ibook - got protools etc on a tower mac g3 but the machine just makes so much noise.I wanted to get that crystal clear sound that everyone gets but I probably need all the best equipment like motu etc which I can't afford - yet.Still one must try.thanks guitapick

What a &mdash 11/07/07 - 01:46:48 AM
beautiful gentle song played and sung with great musicianship and subtlety. I really enjoyed this. Shame about the download, but don't blame you with a song as good as this.
Cheers

Delicious &mdash 11/07/07 - 05:50:23 AM
A very sweet and pretty song with a nostalgic innocence about it. Lovely light jangly noise that balalaika makes and the harmonies work a treat. Nice!

Hope so I spent about an hour tuning that thing but I did come to the conclusion that pushing right next to the fret helps to keep it in tune.I guess thats probably standard practise still a bugger though.Cheers rebs

Sweet music. Man this is a wonderful listen. It's especially good to my ears this first thing in the A.M. Beautiful job harmonizing! Impressive vox work. Excellent writing too!

Fine song &mdash 11/07/07 - 09:34:42 PM
I remember listening to the other version not long ago, so I went and had another listen. I think I prefer the lower timbre of your voice on the other one to this, but there's a lot more air in this one (air is good).
Nice job.

Thanks jim &mdash 11/12/07 - 09:34:00 PM
yeah its weird wot I like about the other version is it just sounds old like from before I was born.Quality sound recording is not really my field I'm more of a sound experimentalist song writer but rough recordings are sometimes nice - this is clearer I think and not always necessarily for better - just different I guess

Cheers

Deceptively simple and direct &mdash 11/08/07 - 01:39:19 PM
wonderful song.

The balalaikas are buggers to tune aren't they?

Cheers

balalaikas &mdash 11/12/07 - 09:40:50 PM
its probably cos I just ignore the traditional tuning and just tune it to whatever the song is - but yeah when you get one string right the one next to it goes out - aaaargh! I need to get a mando I think - Cheers Dick

Beautiful &mdash 11/14/07 - 08:09:02 PM
Love the lyrics to this one. Sure this one resonates with a lot of folk who have had to split up for one reason for another. Maybe felt they had to in order to save face, but it is a lesson learned. Hey, maybe they will miss what they had. Life takes strange turns.

You have a very pleasant voice which blends with your strumming so nicely.

You are the best balaleika player I know! &mdash 11/17/07 - 12:37:27 AM
This song has a sweetness to the melody & harmonies, and a sadness to the lyrics. Wonderful and wistful.

I am touched &mdash 02/10/08 - 10:12:55 AM
Richard,
This song really moved me. I am so saddened by the story and if it is true then I am even more deeply grieved. I was wondering if you could possible write anything that wasn't happy. Now I have my answer, and it hurts.
Thank you for sharing,
Stephen
