Description:
Submitted this track to BBC's 'The Next Big Thing 07' thing today.
This is a shortened (better) version of the one previously posted HERE.
My reason for posting it again is somewhat unclear also to myself.
Maybe I felt for having the Creative Commons license on it, even though I think my submission to BBC gave them all rights whatsoever.
Or maybe I want all who didn't hear this before to be able to hear it.
Or maybe I want all who digged the previous version to be able to download this better one.
Or maybe I want to draw some attention to the whole thing. Isn't this a great thing for all ambitious MJers to try?
About the tune:
It is an old Swedish traditional melody. The origin is unknown, but was given with lyrics around 1650. The lyricist wrote that he "found the melody among Swedish antiques" and nothing more. So it is obviously older than that.
I completely love this particular song. It makes me feel good. Can sit for hours and play it round and round with new variations all the time.
Hardware:
Furch D-24 dreadnought acoustic guitar
Two Golden Age Project R1 mics
A Presonus Firebox interface
BowerBook G4
Software:

Tack Kenta.
It just struck me that:
- I got my first guitar at 11
- I am now 55
- So I've played and loved guitars for 44 years.
- Which should be 80% of the life.
(almost born, heh :) [ Reply to This ]
Oh, yes &mdash 11/09/07 - 05:54:05 AM
I remember this one, and it's great to hear it again, with the slight note changes. Lovely playing as usual, Johannes. :-) [ Reply to This ]
Strange how &mdash 11/09/07 - 05:56:41 AM
a guitar with a neck, frets and a body can sound so different when each person plays it. You have a very distinct sound in your playing which is very beautiful and confident. I think you were born with a guitar in your hand... it sounds that way, regards M [ Reply to This ]

I fell in love with this and your rendition of it when you posted the first one... and this one is... a little different... I'll have to listen to the first one again. The phrasing of a note seemed a tiny bit stilted in 2 places here, where you didn't hold the note quite the right length of time to my ears (early in the piece). Very minor point though, because the depth and flowing nature of this piece really takes you away. I love the very very slow beginning, that is hard to get to sound right, but it does here. Excellent, again!

That stilting is actually intentional. Sometimes I let some notes draw a bit longer. I is an emotional thing, it has to do with the love of the song I feel when playing.. [ Reply to This ]

Love the up front &mdash 11/09/07 - 07:30:38 AM
sound of this, a terrific recording and of course you really got that flavor of the acoustic guitar nicely indeed. Love the phrasing especially in the slow part. It really grabbed me at the start too.
Way to go Cori! [ Reply to This ]

Thank you Bill. Getting a bit sentimental now. I remember you were one of the first people to comment my songs when I first arrived here almost three years ago. Really nice to still see your support! Especially since your'e such a good guitar player yourself. [ Reply to This ]
What wonderful &mdash 11/09/07 - 09:08:30 AM
variations that come from each pass at the verse. I'm entranced by your performance. Very crisp recording too.

Wow thank you for the feedbacking Timothy! I'm still getting amazed every time I realize that someone is playing my music some other place in the world. In an iPod, or maybe on a stereo with speakers I don't know how they sound, and in a room I will never know how it looks. [ Reply to This ]

Just as lovely as the earlier version - played so beautifully, and so powerfully recorded.
Good to see you back around MJ.

Trad Scandinavian &mdash 11/09/07 - 04:59:03 PM
yes, I recognize this kind of melody well. I think there are at least one (that I of course thought where Norwegian) that are almost like this one. I guess we have many similar old folk songs. You swedes seemed to be a bit lighter in mood in those days though:)
Wonderful played with much love, and that was well received at my end. Thank you Johannes. [ Reply to This ]
Yes &mdash 11/10/07 - 12:43:08 PM
Yes, I too belive that it could as well have been a Norweigan song.
Well, until 102 years ago Norway and Sweden was united as one nation.
And borders have been redrawn many times through history.
We don't know what the nation was called where and when the song was made. [ Reply to This ]

These are the moments... &mdash 11/09/07 - 07:26:07 PM
..when I sit here wondering, 'What can I do so that my friend Johannes lands the major label contract that he deserves?'
Maybe if we pick a record label and every MacJammer sends the same executive a personal letter...
It really is about time...

Awesome fingers! Your guitar talks. Nicely done (as usual). I don't know what the BBC thinks, but I think I download every post you make. Thank you for your generosity.
All the best,

...just peaceful and beautifully played. Your guitar speaks with a richness not often heard in acoustic guitars and you seem to bring out the best in the tone. I love this song, especially on a drizzly morning here in California. Perfect. Just perfect.
Peace.

Always Wonderful &mdash 11/11/07 - 01:18:32 PM
It is always such a TREAT to hear your music, Cori.
Your guitar playing never fails to amaze me. Your music speaks from the heart. Such a simple thing, really, but not always so easy to convey, after all.
I like the build-up of intensity towards the very end of this piece. I thought at first that it was leading to a middle section, but then it was OVER!
This piece could have been twice as long and just as captivating. (I wish it WERE longer.)
Thank you for sharing this! [ Reply to This ]

A very sombre tune.It sounds like a song to accompany an old folk tale of goblins or a..tomten.That lake looks like I want to jump in naked with a lot of women. You take some good photos of beautiful places.
Good luck with the bbc - Ive had a few dealings with them. They even gave me 60 once - the petrol money home.
Cheers -
