Description:
Psalm 46 provided the inspiration for the title: "Be still, my friends, and know I am your god." The music balances primarily between two chords (section 1 and 3) with flute solo being taken over by oboe and the playing out of an obligato over the whole thing. Those two parts switch places in the final pass. The middle section provides a diversion, but retains the flavor of the opening. I hope you will enjoy listening to this peaceful little number.

Lyrics:
a song without words

Hardware:
Roland RD-700 Keyboard

Software:
ProTools, GPO (flute, oboe, string ensemble), Ivory "Italian Grand"

Psalm 46 &mdash 11/10/07 - 10:28:06 AM
perfect for what's going on in the world all around us... "Be still and know that I AM God." Ahhh... We need not fear. This music is very peaceful and soothing. You always blend the instruments so well!

The photo is really nifty too, so many great shades of my favourite color.

Just wonderful Paul. "The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress."

God bless,

As another listener stated- &mdash 11/10/07 - 10:09:27 PM
"so delicately put together." I listen whenever you post because I know I will hear music that is deeply felt, yet restrained; powerful, yet gentle.

The GPO oboe stands up well, here. (The jampack oboe is yucky) Did you do any tweaking to get it to sound this good, or is this straight from the box?

It must take a great deal of time and energy to produce something that sounds so effortless!

I'm struggling &mdash 11/11/07 - 04:59:59 AM
with a work problem and this the kind of soothing timeout I need.

Wonderful sounds Paul and beautifully crafted.

Now why isn't this network connecting? :-)

Cheers

Dick

Beautiful as always. Don't you think it's about time you did something really ugly - just to throw us all off a little bit?? :) Wonderful music Paul. Always such a joy to listen to your work. Thanks!!

I really like the way you arranged the different voices - and the oboe and flute tones are perfect. Nice break in my day - thanks.

...and beautiful. Bud told me about your music. This is my first listen and now I understand his enthusiasm. The soaring flute and oboe capture the spirituality of the piece. Thanks for the lovely inspiration.

If I didn't know you'd been writing (and teaching music) for years, I'd just throw in the towel now :-) Very sweet lyric melody, delicately handed between flute, oboe, and clarinet. Gentle piano in the background (showing restraint, for a piano player :-) Very comforting and satisfying composition, I liked the key change in the middle, and the jazzy ending chord seemed to fit just right. The GPO instruments sound quite good here (although a couple of long notes on the flute had an unusually regular tremolo). I think it is so wonderful that we non-aristocracy types can afford to play around with orchestras at our fingertips... I always enjoy (and study) your pieces, thank you!
