Description:
A simple, somber tune in memory of a young friend (and a father) who lost his life while fighting the war on terror in Afghanistan in the Spring of 2003. The events leading up to his and many others deaths started with the events on September 11, 2001...hence, the name of the tune. The melody basically moves around the grounded, mantra-like A (bass) pedal tone. Not looking for votes. Thanks for listening. This one's for you, Orlando. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
Hardware:
Single track with Fender Strat and GB Effects.
Software:

Would Go Great With A Photo Montage &mdash 09/11/04 - 11:04:25 AM
I think that this would work great with photo montage to give to his family.
Gather together some pics, put them together in iMovie and have this be the
background. It could work beautifully together. Very nice playing. [ Reply to This ]
Would Go Great With A Photo Montage &mdash 09/11/04 - 12:34:05 PM
Yeah! Awesome idea, jeremyd. I will approach his family at
the right time and see if they will allow me to do so. It'still a sensitive
issue around here, with the war on terror being on the news every
night. Thanks for the suggestion.

mcsweb, you know I never gave it any thought. Now that you mention
it, it does have a slow tempo similar to Amazing Grace. Sounds very
doable. I'm definitely going to consider it.

very moving,
(even without knowing the story behind the music).
I agree with mcswebs ideas on vocals and lyrics over this.

Thank you for your kind words, SlimGirlFat. "I Wanna Be on Fire" is one
of my favourites!...See how I spelled "favorites"? :-) This yankee still
remembers. LOL! I was stationed at RAF Woodbridge in East Anglia
(above Ipswich) from 1978 to 1980. My major influence in guitar playing
and jazz came about from my time downing pints of Tolly Cobbold at
The Mulberry Tree Pub in downtown Ipswich and listening to guitarist
and friend (still), Mick Hanson. I am overdue for a visit to your wonderful
country. I met some fine people there back in the day. Besides, I owe
Mick a visit.
Thanks again!

I'm glad you like the tune, wethead. The tune got a big thumbs up from
Orlando's family. Thanks to everyone for listening.

once again my dear friend &mdash 09/21/04 - 10:34:00 AM
You have created music that fills my soul. What a tribute.
Everyone can try this-- loop September's Pray, go to http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/Primetime/IRAQ_Casualties_1.html
and read the names of the soldiers killed since 911, Orlando's brothers and sisters. A moving experince for me.
Peace.

Thanks so much, Ted. I think you may have resolved the suggestion by
mcsweb. In lieu of lyrics, reciting the names of our fallen soldiers and
victims of 9-11 over a looped music backdrop is a wonderful idea.

To All Macjammers and Guests... &mdash 09/21/04 - 08:44:10 PM
First, let me thank you all for your wonderful
suggestions. You people are awesome. TEDDYMAC,
JEREMYD and MCSWEB's suggestions got me
thinking...If you, or someone you know, is doing a
tribute to the victims of 9-11 or our soldiers who
have fallen in the line of duty fighting the war on
terror - and feel this tune is appropriate - please feel
free to download SEPTEMBER'S PRAYER and use it, be
it at a memorial function, or as a webpage tribute.
Thanks to all! [ Reply to This ]
what I heard in my head &mdash 11/24/04 - 11:46:57 AM
I listened to this piece over and over again (more than any other on this site so far ;). I could almost hear someone reading out loud a montage of words describing your friend, his character, his roles, his life, and how he touched the lives of those around him.
Not necessarily lyrics, but more like poetry. For what it's worth...
Thanks again for an uplifting piece. [ Reply to This ]

Dan, I really appreciate your kind words. You just made my Thankgiving
holiday. You really did. I will pass on your kindness to Orlando's sister
and her family. The holiday season is the toughest time for them. I'm
sure your thoughts will help lift their spirits. They have, mine. :-)

I love how the melody is sad and reflective, but it makes
you think that
these men like your friend are in Heaven.

Thanks of the kind words, cjhoose. I like to think they are in heaven, as well and I like to think this tunes takes me there, if for just a little while, when I play it.

This is very nice for sure. &mdash 02/25/05 - 09:26:30 PM
I thought I checked this out before but I don't see any
post in regard to it.
But this a very nice laid back almost dreamy tune.
Very nice and I am very glad I came by.
Well done [ Reply to This ]
