Keywords:
Autumn (24)Leaves (7)garden (15)memories (29)
Description:
I don't usually re-post songs (or I haven't done 'till now), but when I first posted it, a few people said they would have liked a bass to have been included. I'm not very confident at playing bass and though there are no musical acrobatics, I had a go and this is the result. I do think it has a fuller, warmer sound now. Seeing that Autumn is still going strong, I also thought it would be appropriate to post it now, or it would never be posted.

Way to go Maurice &mdash 11/13/07 - 06:13:44 PM
This is a much stronger song since you added the bass. It seems to have more energy and better dynamics now.
It is a beautiful song of love lost and remembered. Also, I noticed that it has lost the middle eastern feel to the extent that now it is much more in the French mode. I like it much better now.

Thanks for reposting it this way.

You were right in the first place; it sounds more 'complete' now I think, cheers M

heartfelt &mdash 11/13/07 - 06:40:09 PM
You sing a convincing song. Very believable delivery. Would hit the spot of those missing someone.

I had to chuckle to myself afterwards, that this might be the song the character in my latest tune might be singing to himself a few months down the road since his lady left him.

Nice tune and good voice.

From one 'bass-adder' :o) &mdash 11/13/07 - 08:55:04 PM
to another, brilliant addition. I agree that you have really rounded out the character of this already powerful song. The low end gives a nice foundation and retains that French sound. I humbly submit two suggestions: in the speaking intro the bass timing is a bit off around 'now the time has come', and the second is you may want to play with letting some of the bass notes sustain for a bit longer and see what you think.

Great song Maurice, and your sensibilities about this added dimension are right on the mark!

Cheers,
Doug

It was after listening to your bass addition on Paddlers song that I was persuaded to have a bash at this (I almost asked you if you'd help out). I did alter the timing on quite a few of the bass beats, but I bow to your more highly attuned ears when you pick up that there are still a couple I missed. Thanks again for your nice comments; I'm really pleased that you like the song, regards M

comment Mark, thank you. In the 60's there were quite a few 'hits' that were actually Continental, so I understand what you say.... but I'm sure you can't possibly remember the 60's, your Dad must have told you LOL, cheers M

All that's been said... &mdash 11/15/07 - 10:47:08 AM
...the bass seems to complement your voice's timbre very nicely...adds an extra dimension...fuller and more wide open. Nice choice...

First class &mdash 11/16/07 - 10:58:20 AM
Definitely European :)

Fantastic piece of work and the performance is excellent.

I can taste the vodka and just see the stage through the haze of cigarrette smoke.

Cheers

Fresh and Refreshing &mdash 11/16/07 - 03:28:24 PM
Wow. This is a real delightful song. The accordian sound is what takes me away and sets me somewhere fantastic where you can see famous people strolling around with sunglasses and poodles. You have a terrific voice and your bassline works perfectly.

This would've sounded great on my iPod!

Maurice &mdash 11/17/07 - 07:46:10 PM
this is still a favourite - with or without the bass - I think both versions work really well - It's the accordian - and your vocals - that make this special.

Beautiful Melody &mdash 11/18/07 - 12:42:00 AM
Has that "Amelie" feel to it that would be great as a cinematic background.
As I move along in my song-writing I realize how hard it is to create a strong melody that stays with you. I think this one does; it has that classic timeless feel to it. This one has allot of soul in it too....Good work Moviz....a definite download for me, thank you.....

Yes &mdash 11/18/07 - 05:39:45 AM
Norman, I do agree with all you say about findings strong melodies, but sometimes they are accidental like the clanging synth in the background, which, although I searched high and low for a 'sound', came by this through a happy accident. Trouble is.... I forgot what the accident was LOL. Thank you for your nice input and glad that you D Loaded, regards M

That descending &mdash 11/23/07 - 11:23:42 AM
That descending chromatic line reminds me quite a bit of pianist Roger Williams' version of 'Autumn Leaves.'

Your chords and structure would have fit well into the musical "Fiddler On The Roof."

I have only heard your spoken word before. It's a pleasure to hear you sing. You've got pipes, Maurice!

Reminds me a bit of "All the leaves are brown . . .' from the Mamas and the Papas.

Thanks John &mdash 11/25/07 - 02:57:01 PM
You've picked some nice categories for parts of my song to be likened to, so I'm very pleased about that, with your musical standing. Yes the pipes still work, but not always as I would like them to; alas certainly not as they once did, but I do thank you for the encouraging comments John, regards M

Still dig it. &mdash 12/02/07 - 06:04:09 PM
Every time I listen to this song I am struck by the sincerity that comes through the speakers. This song is greater than the sum of its parts and that makes it great music.

Excellent! &mdash 02/17/08 - 09:58:12 AM
I really like the mood of this one, the accordion definitely gives it a French mood and the bass is tastefully done, giving a dramatic feel and a nice contrast to the main melody. Very nice piece!! Thanks for sharing.
