Description:
This is an experiment in Jazz, Fusion and Blue Grass. Some of the piece is definitely Jazz, some is Fusion (of an extrovert persuasion) and the underlying theme is Blue Grass, of the Deliverance-film type.
It's my last mix of this type, for a while. I want to try other things over the next few months and I've about wrung all I can (or want to) out of this type of multi-layer experimental synthesis genre.
Classical is the next area of interest for me, starting with the pieces I've been putting off completing for years, and with a Chrimbo theme for my next trick. In-shalla.
Oh...and it's a biggy!!

I'll miss &mdash 11/16/07 - 12:29:32 AM
your wonderful ambient work, such as this one, but look forward to your new classical output too.
Cheers,

Hi Doug.... &mdash 11/16/07 - 03:07:04 PM
I appreciate your encouragement in what I do. It gives me that added incentive to try to do things well.
The reason I'm 'going classical' is that I have a fair amount of brain real estate taken up with tunes I've had around for 34-odd years and it's time I cleared out some of the dusty old shelves, to make way for a new Spring of promise.
I may add other stock, R56 stuff, from time to time but I need more of a challenge instead of relying on my usual formula..........Now where are those migraine pills???

the chords at the beginning remind me of the scene from close encounters where richard drefuss is about to be surrounded by beings.with a beat behind it.Deep indeed.I could hear some mysterious whispery vocals going over this or something like the voice of hal from space odyssey. [ Reply to This ]
Music and imagination.... &mdash 11/17/07 - 01:43:48 PM
Your observations sound wonderful Richard. I heard the mix so many times that all I really remember is the banjo and some vaguely fusion-like sounds.
I'll have yet another listen, not using producers-ears but from a listeners point of view. I concentrate so much just lately on noiseless sounds that I miss out on the content and how/why I did such a thing at such a place in the mix. (And yes I just said 'noiseless sound' and that's before I imbibe anything mind altering tonight.
Take care.

I really like... &mdash 11/18/07 - 12:00:08 AM
...the clarity of this composition. The bass, in my opinion (and I am NOT any expert in this), is just so insistent and compelling that it keeps me "into" the whole soundscape. I really enjoy the ingenuity you bring to these compositions. Makes me scratch my head and wonder "how did he conceive of that?" I can certainly hear this track in a film of some kind. It's a bit spooky while being inviting. Glad you shared it. (And now...for the classical!!! You can bet I'll be listening.)

Thanks Paul........ &mdash 11/20/07 - 03:24:27 PM
Your kind comments give me encouragement.
The 'experimental' itch I've been scratching for a few months now is almost over, short term anyway. I have serious, dots on manuscript stuff to birth.
I've been soaking myself in Beethoven, Mozart, Barber, Jenkins, Vaughan Williams, Tavaner, etc.. and I am beginning to see what I could try with my ancient one-liners. It will take a while to put things together but I have that time.
Take care.

Wierd stuff this double-hit..... &mdash 11/20/07 - 05:23:44 PM
I have had many weird things happen whilst using both Firefox and Safari, double favourites, favourites when I never wanted to add one, and I just wonder when MJ's code guru's will get things together for a stable, minimalist system.

parts &mdash 11/20/07 - 03:37:04 PM
Parts of this reminded me of Weather Reports very first album.
Hitting a chord with some combiniations of extensions and letting it float out there and suddenly changing course.
That unknowing, or suprise, kept one hanging on, interested and having one try to anticipate climaxes.
Enjoyed the space ride. [ Reply to This ]
Hi Damien.... &mdash 11/20/07 - 05:20:51 PM
I'm glad you got something out of this piece. It reminded me of so many different things whilst I was mixing it.
Weather Report. Their first album. I must listen to it again. My favourite is Heavy Weather, so this gets the majority of my ipod time out of all their albums.
Thanks for stopping by.
