The result of a Wednesday afternoon without much else to do.

Lyrics:
Long Road Home
©2007Joseph Gurner

It’s been so long since I
Fell from grace
I couldn’t tell you how the
Splendor felt

So many years since I
Even tried
I found myself drifting
through my life

Even in the best times I
Felt so bad
So much fear
griped my soul

I never stopped running
I never looked back
I never took time
to catch my breath

Now I’m here
In the place I’m meant to be
And It’s been
A long road home (It’s been a long road home)

I close my eyes
And sleep comes over me
And it’s been
A long road home (it’s been a long road home)

The days are warm and the
nights are cold
I wonder if I’ll ever
feel again

For so may days I let my
past run over me
Like a river
running wild

Even in the best of times I
saw the dark
So much sadness
griped my soul

I never stopped hiding
I never raised my head
I never took time
to take my rest

Now I’m here
In the place I’m meant to be
And It’s been
A long road home (It’s been a long road home)

I close my eyes
And sleep comes over me
And it’s been
A long road home (it’s been a long road home)

Decent Song &mdash 11/16/07 - 09:40:29 AM
Didn't blow me away, but a nice ballad all the same. The crunchy guitar is either a little too crunchy, or too constant for my ear. Love the "ooh" bg harmony. That's the creativity I really like. Overall, sounds like a nice Wednesday afternoon.

Respectfully,

Josh

Thanks for sharing this Joe &mdash 11/16/07 - 04:07:49 PM
Very nice lyrics and you sang them very well. It is a very good song in need of a little remixing to make it great in my humble opinion.

I think you might want to revisit the production on this and sort it out a little. The Rhythm guitar sounds a little muddy or or maybe just there's to little definition in it, it's hard to tell. Maybe moving it around in the stereo field would help it. After listening to the rhythm guitar again I think what's bothering me is that it has too much distortion in it, which makes it all seem to run together. Your lead guitar part is very good, but it's too far back in the mix to be effective. I would bring it up in volume a couple db so it takes it's rightful place in the song.
Love the sound and feel of the bass line you did, it's spot on, so that's great. The drums are good to, but you could bring them up a notch as well to drive the song a little harder.

This song has great potential Joseph and I'd like to hear it after you get it reworked. It's gonna be great.

Respectfully, your friend,

Ed

Good words and a nice sound - your voice seems to be getting truer and stronger.

I really like this one, too... &mdash 11/19/07 - 09:04:26 PM
And I appreciate it's snarly roughness... Especially against the plaintive vocal...

It's strong enough that I could imagine you having another go at the mix...This has that 'Ragged Glory' charm, but I bet more folks would relate to a more Matthew Sweet-meets-Neil-and-Big-Star rendering...

I love hearing this kind of song, and this kind of guitar playing...

How'd you get my story down so well? &mdash 11/21/07 - 07:17:09 AM
Man what a great song - so much soul and depth to your singing and writing. I really ID with everything happening here - it has a familiar Crazy Horse vibe that I often drift towards. I especially like the chorus Back up vocals. It doesn't get much better than this.
