I really &mdash 11/18/07 - 06:22:29 PM
like this catchy number. The guitar is brill and the beat, but the vocal thingy really does work on this. I'd love to know how you did that, because it's really really catchy and suits the song and accompaniment to a T.Love it all, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
just that enhance tuning thing... &mdash 11/18/07 - 07:44:42 PM
The vocal effect is just just that enhance tuning Garageband thing on the vocal track. Glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment! [ Reply to This ]
Around the bend &mdash 11/18/07 - 07:59:25 PM
I'm not bitchin, this is clever pitchin, bending that is.
Are you now our MacJams Aaron Neville now?
This was so cool how you did this one. Nice laid back groove just bobbin along.
Now this is original and I really liked how it came off. [ Reply to This ]

I'm not a big fan of the pitch correction thing but the originality of the song overides that in this case - really unusual sound and some beautiful melodies going on there.Real fresh sounding

Cool vibe and very &mdash 11/19/07 - 12:17:09 AM
catchy tune.Loved the simple sweet melody. However for me personally the pitch effect would be far more effective and add to the simple brillance of the piece if used far more sparingly.Grew weary of it though not the song rather quickly.

it's a concept. &mdash 11/19/07 - 08:06:32 AM
The song slumbering wrote that I misinterpreted these lyrics from is excessively pitch corrected and that's why I misinterpreted these lyrics. Still don't know what the correct lyrics are, but the ones I came up with were sort of funny, I thought. :) [ Reply to This ]

Love the acoustic guitar sound on this. So clean and rich sounding. I'm jealous :-)
Great concept - fun - like you say!

acoustic sound... &mdash 11/19/07 - 08:32:06 PM
That's a combination of my dear old Guild G37 acoustic, which according to most of my acoustic playing buddies is a special guitar with a great warm and lived-in sound, along with the Rode NT1000 mic, through and ART Tube PAC preamp into my Tascam US122 interface. Other than that there might be some reverb on it, but it's pretty simple, really. It's really a matter of capturing a good signal, and playing fresh and easy. I think I did enable the "Don't Suck" plugin.

hmm... &mdash 11/19/07 - 06:10:14 PM
I'm with Paddler, I think, when I say I'm not a fan of that vocal effect, but you use it in a very unique way, and I see what you're doing with it and how it fits in with the whole inspiration for the song and its style. the melody, your singing, the song, etc are cute and fun. You never cease to surprise. [ Reply to This ]
Fun &mdash 11/19/07 - 08:39:46 PM

perchance to dream? &mdash 11/20/07 - 06:38:46 PM
nice. it really makes me think of that odd time just as i'm falling asleep that silly nonsense flows through my mind but it still seems to make sense. the 100% pitch correction reinforces this impression.
thanks! [ Reply to This ]
effects & all &mdash 11/20/07 - 10:36:29 PM
sounding very cool. love the warm tone on the gits and the laid back rythym trac. well done. what pitch software do you use? [ Reply to This ]
it's just Garageband &mdash 11/21/07 - 07:08:01 AM
Really, nothing more than that. Really quite simple. I do have Bias' PitchCraft and that is super, with different modes and the ability to write your own scales and fine tune the amount of pitch correction, but really, this was recorded pretty quickly. I probably spent more time tweaking the drum loops than recording it. But I think that kept it pretty fresh. A lot of my stuff is way too overworked!

Someone above said... &mdash 11/20/07 - 11:15:18 PM
...this has a "hang out" feel to it. It sure does. Very mellow vocal and just conversational throughout...Wow. The fade is perfect. I love your description of the instrumentation: guitar, mic. Hey. You don't need anything else. Perfect for this song. Your vocal is perfect, too. I can't imagine a better performance of this song...I don't know if I'm supposed to "get" the lyrics or not. I read them over a couple of time. It's either an interesting conversation/hope/wish/good luck kind of thing or...it's just nonsense. I'll take the former. You did a great job on this.
Peace.

Thanks for the comment! &mdash 11/21/07 - 07:20:11 AM
The lyrics are actually the latter. I think the original lyrics of the song that inspired this had to do with a conversation between two people over Skype or some such thing and they were not clearly audible so I misunderstood most of the words in a somewhat amusing way. So some phrases might be close to what was said originally and some are just silly. Sometimes the words I write for my songs are too ponderous and I really just wanted to be silly and surreal with this one. This song has more to do with sound than with content. I hope that clarifies it for you. Glad you stopped by to hang out! [ Reply to This ]

I really, really like this tune Jim. The simplicity's perfect. Guitar sounds great (nice playin' and production) and the drums are nicely understated.
And I love the vox...and lyrics.
Nice tune, man...very fine...
Sweet artwork...what's that about? [ Reply to This ]
oh! &mdash 11/21/07 - 07:12:14 AM
the artwork is a watercolor that I did a while back, when deep in my Klee phase. I did whole bunches of these paintings on colored matte board scraps when I was working managing an art/framing store. Thanks for noticing, it's one of my favorites! [ Reply to This ]
nice job &mdash 11/21/07 - 06:12:14 PM

Love both the guitar and the way that you sang through the pitch correction; seemed to be using it like an instrument. But that pickin', now that is super.

Koool &mdash 11/24/07 - 12:04:10 PM
That pitch correction makes the whole thing very surreal, like the song is partially bionic. Your guitar playing is so damn good, it steals the show for me. You've got some way of playing that makes it sound like the music is coming directly out of your head. No, I mean that in a good way :) It just grooves and swings and makes it impossible for the listener to avoid swinging with you. The dancing woman in your painting has clearly caught the groove. I don't have many words ... &mdash 11/25/07 - 01:43:23 AM
... just a big grin. Lovely recording - the guitar in particular is like you're in my studio. Drums are just right. I remember slumbering's original, and I wasn't crazy about the pitch shifting then much either. This is a fun take though, and a lovely recording.
Where can I buy the "Don't Suck" plugin btw - I think it might sound good with my Tele :)

you can't buy it... &mdash 11/25/07 - 11:39:26 AM
You can't buy the "Don't Suck" plug-in, you need to earn it! Over many lifetimes of Karma. But by the sheer goodness of the jigumavibe, I'm surprised you don't have it already, since I don't hear much suckiness in your music, my friend! It must be your karma determined you don't need it! Guitar sound &mdash 11/25/07 - 11:49:26 AM
I love the guitar sound. Very 'stringy.' I like hearing the little buzzes from the strings touching the fretboard.
The pitch correction is a little distracting. I would rather hear you 'warts and all.'
A very catchy vibe. Your style is relaxed but polished. A pleasure. [ Reply to This ]
The Hang-Out Feel &mdash 11/25/07 - 05:20:02 PM
I just noticed you had posted this here! :D
It never hit me before, but the hang-out feel is a perfect summary, not only of the sound and feel of your song, but of the way my song came about.
My song really is just the random conversation between my friend and me, hanging out together, online. In fact, i actually recorded that song using my computer keyboard while we were chatting. So i find it very interesting, that, even though the sounds of the songs are quite different, your translation captured the feeling of hanging out.
Using the pitch-correction in GB was my attempt at conveying an "electronic" feel but also ended up serving to disguise the words - i was going to post the lyrics but my friend felt self-conscious, so i didn't post them; but we both agreed that posting the song would be okay since no one in their right mind would be able to understand what i was singing. :D
I totally love your interpretation and feel so happy that you did this. The pitch correction is ace, immho! :)
I LOVE THE WATERCOLOR, TOO!
Do you sell prints? I'd buy one!
