Keywords:
Dream (97)drugs (38)midnight (10)mountain (17)alone (36)cave (3)dark (304)unknown noises. (1)
Description:
This is an experiment in sound, where the contents add the rhythm and phrasing.

It's a Peyote Dream, and it's a 'Bad One'.

There's no real music in it, hence the Experimental genre BUT it could be adapted as a sound track to some Mexican horror trip 'Overnight, Alone on a Mountain', taking refuge in a cave. Bring your own pipe or buttons.

Take care. Don't listen with the lights out. Keep the volume low and listen, preferably, on head/ear phones.

excellent. i love the whole feel of it. you are right about the volume, best not to crank it too much. should have used this in the Blair Witch Project.

Thanks Michael....... &mdash 11/21/07 - 01:04:15 AM
It is another piece that I wasn't too sure about uploading. There are a number of production challenges with this mix that are still a long way from being completed.

I'm going to have another go at producing this mix and remove this copy, in the next few days.

I've screwed up on the upload form, where I ticked the 'restrictive license' it removes the d/l button and you can't reverse the process!!

I never saw the film you refer to although I heard enough about it at the time.

There are more of this type of mix coming. I have another soundscape itch that needs attending to!!

Take care.

Paul

you &mdash 11/21/07 - 10:21:16 AM
should try gleetchlab. perceptual vortex turned me onto it. it's freeware and really hard to describe, but check it out. i think you might get some use from it. i just started experimenting with it, but haven't finished anything yet (it's a little on the complicated side).

Hi Michael.... &mdash 11/21/07 - 02:40:28 PM
I've had a quick look and listen and it seems to be something that I could use. I'll aim to set it up over the weekend and have a play with it. I'm always one to try something new or different.

Thanks for the info.

Paul.

hey &mdash 11/21/07 - 08:16:43 PM
do yourself a favor and download the video tutorial. i had a hard time to get it to make any sounds at first. i think the trick is to load 1 track in and leave it alone while you manipulate the other tracks (there are up to 6 total); hit record and then dump it into whatever you normally record on. i am going to hit perceptual vortex up for some tips, as the manual only gets you through getting it set up.

BTW make sure the volume is turned down before you run the signal test. i got an ear piercing load of sine wave through the phones that I'm still reeling from.

Hi Michael.... &mdash 11/22/07 - 01:26:41 PM
I've downloaded the application and pdf file onto my ibook and I'll be playing around with the controls once I find some loops to experiment with.

I'll let you know what happens as I learn more about things.

IT'S COLD IN HERE! &mdash 11/20/07 - 07:18:05 PM
I can feel a cool draft on the back of my neck.
The sticky floor holds my shoes in place.
It's an ancient almost empty movie house showing some terribly scratched, really weird and demented nightmare of a Z movie.
HOLD ON while I wrap my scarf around my head - it's really getting cold in here.

Hi Charlie... &mdash 11/21/07 - 01:08:29 AM
I like your description and the effect it may have had on you whilst you listened. The whole scarey-movie thing just fell into place with the sounds/synthesis I used. Reverb lent the atmosphere space.

I have a few more of these on the way. Stay tuned for 'Who's That Knocking' (with no similarity to Dave Edmunds classic pop tune at all).

Always appreciate a few words from you.

Take care.

I'm never anything &mdash 11/20/07 - 07:30:10 PM
I'm never anything but impressed when I stop by to listen to one of your pieces. This is extraordinarily atmospheric, a success because it tints everything around me with its slow-creeping sense of dread. Nicely done. The whole world looks stranger now. Any chance of a download button? Peace.

Hi Dajama.... &mdash 11/21/07 - 01:13:23 AM
Thanks for listening and leaving your kind comments.

The d/l button. Ah yes. I didn't leave this off for a good reason, more of a stupid reason.....I didn't know what the 'restrictive license' option did when I filled in the upload form, so ticked it, and it removes the d/l button!! It's also not reversable.

I'll either put up a more balanced version of this sometime in the next few days, removing this version, or I'll find a file sharing site that allows 7 Mb files to be shared. I'll drop you a note when either/both of these things happen.

You could always switch 'monitor input' on your sound program and click on record, then play the tune from MJ's. It will record what you're hearing, and you can then save the file on any format.

Take care.

Paul.

I am... &mdash 11/21/07 - 10:18:47 AM
...totally creeped out by this track...and that's a good thing. Very evocative sounds that take the listener into a terrifying world that is so subtle one develops a certain paranoia while listening. I would love to see what you'd do with a full-length feature horror film.
(P.S. I dropped you a note here last night that was, I think much better composed. Don't know why it didn't post, but I wanted to be sure you heard from me.)
Peace.

Hi Paul.... &mdash 11/21/07 - 02:46:24 PM
I checked my Mailbox and your note didn't get through.

I always think it amazing how when someone is nervous and they hear something they can't quite identify, how their imagination kicks in. Of course I 'played' on this with the mix you've listened to here.

There are a few more of these type of soundscapes coming to MJ's, so lock all your doors and draw the curtains, especially if it's dark outside.

Take care.

Paul

Thanks for those kind words.

If you want to use this piece, let me know where I can copy/send it to you and it's your's to use.

I've just uploaded another 'ambience' piece. Hopefully that one will have a d/l button.
