Description:
This song is titled after a Dali print that hangs in my office. It's a weird scene and a "weird" song. I wanted to see what I could do with some of the abstract sounds to make something more dramatic. This is closer to some of the stuff I used to do in grad school. Think "horror movie soundtrack".

Yep, I liked this one. But there's a bit too much happening in the first "half". I
like chaos, it can become really great, but in this case, the chaos needs a bit
more structure than what we can currently hear.

Spooky, just like you said. Where did all this sounds come from? Everything
inside GB? Nice space and movement. The piano thing did seem like a
second song that faded in, and the reverb on the piano made it sound shaky
in an unpleasant way; thought maybe if should have sounded more expansive
and New Age at the end. But I dug it. Keep experimenting!

I really like this song. Very creepy in the beginning; atmospheric and
just kinda cool. The piano sounds great (even tho the sound getting
louder and softer really fast is kinda weird). I think it might sound
better as the piano alone without the bass, but it was still kickass. Good
song!

Amen to that.

I agree that the effect on the piano needs to go. If your
intention was to make it sound choppy, then I would
suggest a sustained ambience behind it (I can hear cello
or something mournful, or maybe the synth from the
beginning washing in the background...).

Nicely done.

I really like the first part of this tune the best. It is very
atmospheric and tense, somewhat relieved by the second
part. As I understand it the first half was created
completely with loops....I think that is really cool....it
does'nt sound looped at all. I am curious as to what some
of your influences are as far as this kind of music goes...I
am always looking for something new to listen to. Keep
creating!

You are a Twisted Sort Aren't You? &mdash 07/17/04 - 12:25:49 AM
Dude, this track is very cool and worth another look. The
piano is very powerful, it envokes a very sad feeling to me.
Let's see if we can push the envelope a little more.

I definately agree with the concensis on the piano. Loose
the weird echo but keep it in an empty environment.
Imagine the piano in a large area by itself. Think of the
echo that it would make and that's where you want to go.

As for the freak of nature FX, I like them too but they need
a little placement. I think the piano would not have near
the saddness it has without the FX at the beginning so
leave them there HOWEVER, here are some suggestions:

1. Shorten the FX at the beginning and integrate sound
bites from movies where you hear an actor/actress
speaking something that fits with your song. No SFX
(Sound Effects) from the movie, just narration sound bites
and just a few. Or invent your own. What I'm suggesting
here is to give the listener a place to go, like an
establishing shot of a movie. They hear the malencolly
(sp), hear sound of fear and then the piano comes in...

2. I like the suggestion of loosing the bass line, it would
sadden the composition even more but I also like it.
Perhaps try the following:

a. Leave the bass line in

b. add some SFX of a woman crying a few times
throughout the course of the piano (lets sadden this a bit
more shall we?). Perhaps in the background, subtle so
people will pick it up slowly. This will freak people out
when they realize what it is because it's not obvious and it
will help reinforce the stage you set with suggestion #1.

c. perhaps repeat the first part of the piano again accept
this time, fade out the bass so the piano goes solo. The
idea here is to create solitude and lonelyness (it's
practically there now).

d. When it gets to the end where you are at the upper end
of the keyboard, add a couple of the SFX from the
beginning back in, but in the background and inbetween
the high notes (I don't know how to describe it).

e. fade the SFX so each comes in and out in about 1-3
seconds time.

f. Let piano continue to play solo and then let final note
sustain and fade on it's own.

3. Or you could just ignore everything I just wrote and say
I'm nuts.

I'm more of a Rene? Magrit man myself but I can respect
your twist impression of Dali. Get it? Dali, clocks, twited.
Or maybe I should have said warped.

I'm adding this to my favorites.

emotional. inventive. some of the sounds are really
amazing i like the 1st half of the song best, but the end
seems to ground all of the "craziness". nicely done
