Description:
An older song of mine recorded recently. I have no idea where all the semi-religious references came from - it was pretty much stream of consciousness. It's a bit repetitive, right down to the intro. I grew up on hand me downs - they still seemed new to me, though. Not much more about this one that I can think of.

Lyrics:
sunlight pouring down
yellow wrapped around the heavens when
amber burns to brown
as winter preys upon the autumn rain again

I can feel the wind upon my face
lifts me up, makes me lose my place
pick me up, if just to pass me around
nothing pleases like a brand new hand me down

heaven's falling down
if you could hear the angels, what would they say?
Such a lovely sound
I would listen but I can't hear much today

I can feel the wind....etc

say a prayer for me
are you there for me when I fall down?
I'm in ecstasy
I would force a grin but I can hardly frown

still, I can feel the wind upon my face
lifts me up, makes me lose my place
pick me up, if just to pass me around
nothing pleases like a brand new hand me down

Brian, I always enjoy your voice. Great singer! This is a nice song. Really liked the lyrics and the music. I loved the semi-religious references btw~ This is not a hand me down song. It is top notch all the way! Great job!

you're sweet. I'm glad you think so highly of it. I'm kind of ambivalent about it. I just recorded it to tidy up my unfinished stuff. I'm cleaning out the attic, so to speak.

thanks for listening !

Brian this is &mdash 11/21/07 - 05:38:27 PM
gorgeous. I wish you'd come and clean out my attic. Your songs make me feel very humble. I know your songs well enough to know that this going to be a favourite, it will grow and grow. I think 'Catchy' should be your middle name. Superb.
Cheers
Len

stop! don't stop! &mdash 11/21/07 - 06:36:43 PM
you've giving me a swelled head! I'm glad you like it so much. I wasn't gonna put it up here as I wasn't so sure about it. now I'm glad I did!

thanks again

PS I'm mastering a lot of these songs to put up on iTunes, CDBaby, eMusic, etc., as I write this. The unmastered versions will stay up on here and be available as always. I'll let you know when they're up. the mastered versions sound pretty damn good (soundwise).

Wow &mdash 11/21/07 - 05:42:39 PM
This is a great song with a stellar arrangement. Love all of it. The guitars, the vocal, the lyrics, the whole feel of it. It's just outstanding Brian. Kudos to you for a really great piece of work.

You really could categorize this as Country Rock, Folk Rock, Pop, or maybe best of all as a Crossover song. You choose.

I love music that has a little twang to it. I love all that alt country stuff. I was weened on Neil Young (and Glen Campbell doing all those great Jimmy Webb songs as a tot - my mom had his albums - i liked them cuz they were on Capitol - the same label as the Beatles!)- I guess it started there. perhaps I should call these songs 'folkcountryrockpop'. a whole new genre!

thanks for listening!

Very cool &mdash 11/22/07 - 11:47:48 AM
Man, thank you so much for sharing your tunes here! I don't have any critique to offer 'cause I think you have it pretty wired. So let me offer this- one of the things I appreciate the most about your songs is that they inspire me to put in the extra effort and make things "just right" when I'm tempted to let something that is a little off go by. Again, thank you Brian. Happy Thanksgiving.

you're quite welcome. its humbling to think someone would use me as a reference point when creating their own recordings. I'm glad you like my stuff and thanks for the nice comments.

happy thanksgiving to you, too!

Only thing missing... &mdash 11/25/07 - 09:28:40 PM
...is that arresting graphic element that makes the song LOOK cool in iTunes...

I love the lyrics and I love the vocals here... Nice sense of "light and shade" as Jimmy Page used to put it... Great use of space... Love the guitar playing... It's a superbly written song...

The title &mdash 11/28/07 - 04:06:52 AM
Can I just put a word in for the title? I know it grew out of the refrain, but the title made me want to listen... I love a song title which suggests something.

thanks! &mdash 11/28/07 - 12:38:00 PM
me too. the title actually came first - it took me a while to write a song around it. thanks for listening!

Brian,
Found you through the forum post about your new iTunes CD. Congrats!

This is a great song. Very poppy. I dig it. You have an amazing voice. I usually don't like to do comparisons, but you sound a bit like the vocalist from the Gin Blossoms. Anyway, great mix, nice combo of instruments, mandolin (?), harmonica. You have some nice chops. Catchy lyrics. new fav. quick D/L
