of everything. I hear middle east, scottish, euro influences. even a touch of Zappa thrown in. just what i needed to break me out of my post tryptamine funk. cool art work..
perceptualvortex
I'm glad you enjoyed my musical world tour!
Drew Kopr
What a beautiful thing...lots of pleasing fun stuff and a great groove to go with it!
Drew Kopr
Dave, you ought to post that version of FWB that you originally were creating with the cool indian sounds...i listen to it in my car all of the time and it is fantastic.
perceptualvortex
I'm glad you dug this, man. Yes, that early FWB... unfortunately, it may only be on the Mac that died when I mixed the tune... I'll have to dig that up, thanks for the reminder. It's cool that you like that one! It was still in the experimenting phase and I wasn't sure if it was working out or not.
Scott Carmichael
there are writers, players, poets and the whole lot... here at MJ... you Dave, are on top of your other obvious skills... a superlative producer...
I think that skill is my highest objective... it's really the main reason I keep twistng these knobs and writing music... just so I can get in the studio and play...
I'd say nice workm but this doesn't sound like work to me... you made it sound like play... pure fun
perceptualvortex
Yes, it really is play for me--it's getting too cold for juggling around here :) Thanks for the comment, I appreciate that. Production wise, I think I just keep twiddling knobs until it sounds right to me. My other secret is that I throw away 75% of what I make, because I feel like it will never be good enough. That's easy for ME to do, because I'm not investing a lot in songwriting or learning instrument parts!
A funky twisty ride through all sorts! i THINK MY DREAMS HAD A SOUND TRACK LIKE THIS BUT i CANT REMEMBER oops my caps locked up I love the Irish jig sound! another excellent song!
perceptualvortex
Thanks, man I'm glad you like this!
some fries with that?
perceptualvortex
Extra katchop with em?
Vic Holman
i think i just flew around the world in a few minutes.
Dave, you really do excellent work on your compositions. this is no exception.
Nice world travel. When I wake up I'll have to try and explain the mud on my feet.
perceptualvortex
Thank you Vic, I appreciate that!
VicDiesel
So I guess I'll put aside my normal reservations against, erm, haphazard sequences of loops: penny whistle, didgeridoo, stuff..... Are these loops? Or did you play everything yourself?
It's fun regardless.
davisamerica
as always your material is always a treat...don't know how you do it just keep it up! hats off!
perceptualvortex
Thanks, davisamerica!
perceptualvortex
Thank you, I'm glad you found this fun!
Yup, this is all loops and one-shots. It's all very deliberate, nothing haphazard about it, actually. I tend to share your reservations about loop-music, and I try to avoid the usual pitfalls of that approach. On the other hand, I'm much less interested in the question "How was it made?" than in "Does it sound good to you?"
moorlandt
what a fusion of sounds and rhythms. This is even better than flying in your dream.
Walt
perceptualvortex
Thanks for sharing this dream, Walt.
Very cool done.... u are amazing man I dig it. Cheers
Kenta
perceptualvortex
Thanks man, I really appreciate that.
Sounds pretty good to me..
Pretty cool that the plethora of sounds quite 'Romps' with the kit.
. - Harold
perceptualvortex
Thanks Harold. I guess that marching snare kind of makes this sound like a dream parade to me, mostly with a dream drum line, romping through the town with a plethora of sounds in tow. Say that ten times fast. Thanks for checking this out, man!
"that ten times fast." :D
Do I win something?
peace!. - Harold
perceptualvortex
But you only said 'that' once. That that that that that that that that that that.
ledebutant
That opening bass is so familiar and it's going to bug me all day. Right now, all I can come up with is that the first part of the song reminds me of Cannonball, which is a good thing. I really dig the drums that juggle between each ear. That's a very cool touch and shows the kind of attention to detail that always makes your music a really enjoyable and educational listen.
perceptualvortex
I'm glad you enjoyed this, Lisa. The bass was pieced together from Bass on Demand, so maybe that slide at the beginning has been used before... no doubt? I'm glad you like that stereo effect with the beats; I've been doing that a lot recently--it works well with the extra-dry, gated percussion sounds I like.
Ed Hannifin
...is glued together on the bottom, 'cause you are one of those who recognize drums as actual instruments...
Above that on this track is someone who recognizes that music is made of sounds, and who is not afraid to play with those sounds, and make something of them...
This is fun to listen to. I keep coming back to it...
Ed
perceptualvortex
It's cool that you keep coming back to this, Ed. Well, it's true that I love to work with drum tracks--that which I'm most familiar with. Believe it or not, the earlier incarnation of this tune was all drums, and the concept was a percussionfest. Mostly sort of a drum corps sound, but in a dance vein. But I decided to add the melodic elements, and I'm glad I did because they fit well and are beautiful and add a lot of color. I'm glad you like it!
Feter
I love this world tour ..cool expriment !!

I would pay loads to see this track (and others by you) being performed live on stage - (pref. outdoors) with light shows/lasers etc.
Well up to your usual standards David.
Class.
Graham

...it took me so long to get to this David. I've been playing catch-up ever since i got back. lot's of territory to cover!
I DO fly in my dreams, although strangely, even there I'm still afraid of heights. If I fly too high I tend to go into a tailspin!
Very trippy music man. I enjoyed the ride!
Be well!
