Keywords:
trash (6)memories (28)truth (30)doubts (1)
Description:
Having a laugh/serious

Lyrics:
V1

I haven't got a clue when it comes to making sense of you
I said I wanted to find it out
Collecting all the pieces, neglecting other uses
You said you weren't afraid at all
When you watch it every day

CH1

Giving it a name, giving it a home, giving it a song (while you watch it every day)
We are to proud to say

V2

Memories are not you, but you can't find a single day
with a sense of guilt and pride (what'd you do wrong)
Some of it is sacred (and) some of it is mine
But you can't see the light (when you watch it every day)

CH 2

Giving it a name, giving it a song, giving it a home (while you watch it every day)
We are to proud to say (when you watch it every day)
Giving it a name, giving it a home, giving it a song (while you watch it every day)
We are to proud to say

SOLO

When you watch it every day

CH 3

Giving it a name, giving it a song, giving it a home (while you watch it every day)
We are to proud to say (when you watch it every day)
Giving it a name, giving it a song, giving it a home (while you watch it every day)
We are to, we are to proud to say

All that trash etc. etc.

Couldn't understand all of the lyrics but still really enjoyed the beat and the music. You have the perfect rockin' voice. Great job!

Great guitar work &mdash 11/25/07 - 09:34:38 AM
That lifts this song over most of the other "alternative" rock. You have a good voice too, but it's the guitar I'll remember.

Ye Olde Fostex 4 Track &mdash 11/25/07 - 11:45:29 AM
1993

Track 1 would be guitars
Track 2 would be lead vox
Track 3 would be bounced/mixed backing vox and sound f/x (stadium crowd as a backdrop during the solo)
Track 4 devoted as a CV sync track

The 4 track is CV'd to my sampler (via a midi interface) which has 8 tracks. That's where the drum samples, bass, Fender Rhodes and other samples join in. These were all programmed and sequenced and that's where the bulk of the mixing was done.

The band at that time (XL) had a fretless bass player so I mimicked his bassline as best as I could. Our drummer Bob would have assisted in ensuring that the drum pattern was as accurate as possible to the actual drum track.

I'll pass on your kind comment to guitarist *Flatch*

Lyrically, I haven't got a Scoobie as to what I was on about. This was around the time we recorded *Ratboy* and various other wacky ditties.....

Cheers Steve,

I will be squeaking to *Flatch* tomorrow and I hope that such uploads/comments will inspire him to be creative again but this time, directly via MJ's/open collaborations !!!

I will certainly ask him to consider becoming a Member.

Gratia's,

axe &mdash 11/26/07 - 02:46:35 AM
Great axe and REALLY great harmonies, especially at the end. I admire the separation you have achieved between instruments, hard to do and very well done. They each have a very distinct space. I think the vocals could come up a bit, and to my ears the bass is a bit heavy, particularly the kick drum. But small quibbles for a strong track. D'L and Fav'd.

BASS/Harmonies &mdash 11/26/07 - 06:40:35 AM
Philip. You're probably right about this being a tad bass heavy etc. From memory, at that time,I used to mix through our PA system and such large *coffin* speakers with hindsight were far from ideal for mixing but great for rehearsing/gigging.

By a year or so after that, I scaled down to studio monitors and used cans to check stereo spread effects/levels.

I always take a fair amount of effort when creating harmonies. This involves being as creative as possible and finding *non conventional* ones if that makes sense.

Neat stuff man. Fantastic sound. Maybe something weird happened to my earphones overnight but everything sounds super good today - this is top banana.

And it doesn't matter what you're on about - no one ever listens to the words anyway (....apparently?).

Good stuff

I still have more to come from ye olde vaults.

However, I'm just about to properly start doing open collabs. I haven't sung for a few years now so this will be challenging especially so given the style I've to attempt for one song in particular.

Re. words, they are important to some but not important to others. The majority fall into the latter.

I'm actually working right now on some lyrics. These ARE actually very important for this one - kind of ironic given that it's essentially a *spoof* song ;-)

I usually try to perfect a mix based solely on the music and then only once I'm happy, do I unmute the vocal tracks and blend them in. Might not work for everyone, but certainly does for Steck.

Drop the Puck &mdash 11/27/07 - 09:32:08 AM
Great grungy sound.

This would be a hit at all Hockey game warm-ups.

Great in-your-face guitar playing with appropriate crescendos in all the right places. Growling vocals and harmonies. Subtle keyboarding giving great flavor with that steady march forward beat.

Only critique is the ending, thought it ended rather quickly. Perhaps a longer fade out with that vamp would work better.

The vocals really remind me of World Party, one of my favorite bands...

Great energy...

I'm amazed at the amount of feedback generated by my recent uploads.

Ed - Thanks. Don't recall hearing World Party material other than *Is it like today*. As such their music was not an influence but we're honored to be compared with one of your favorite bands!

guitapick - Cheers !!

damiengh - "This would be a hit at all Hockey game warm-ups" Many thanks !! I wouldn't say that "All that Trash" was one of our *classics* and it wasn't one that we chose to record outwith our own rehersal studio. I didn't therefore spend much time mixing the ending. Yes, a longer fade out may have been better but there you have it....

On Point &mdash 11/30/07 - 11:08:23 AM
Yup, I agree with all the comments above. This track is on point. I too enjoy the separation of all the instruments (that's something I have yet to achieve in my recordings) and the vocal is great! I'm going to listen to some more of your stuff!!

Ta Muchly &mdash 11/30/07 - 01:08:29 PM
This upload has resulted in the most feedback yet from all the ones that I've posted thus far. Plus, this is the most recent one that I've released.

I remain in awe !!

psexnyc - Hope you enjoy some of my other stuff. I'll be sounding out yours later.

Re. separation of sounds, let me think. The main parameters are (obviously) volume, eq and panning. When mixing, a combination of monitors and closed headphones I find useful. The better quality of both the better depending on ones budget.

The more you mix the better - *practice makes perfect* or so the saying goes.....

Ahh Monitors &mdash 11/30/07 - 11:06:58 PM
There are pieces of equipment I am going to need if I seriously want to get my music to sound like I am serious about the way my music sounds. Right now, it's just me, my guitars, my eMac and GB3 and this guitar cable with a USB plug on one end. That's it. I'm just happy to get this music out of my head and into digital form. This whole process just blows me away. And so does your music!!
