Goin' Up the Mountain

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Modified Mix of my theme for the 2004 Boston Red Sox. Overcoming your history is a mighty big mountain. Now they've won it again I decided to revisit it.

This lyrically combines bits of the traditional Wild Mountain Thyme with Led Zeppelin's Misty Mountain Hop. Musically it's a bit of a thrashfest. The guitar I'm playing on 2 tracks is my son Gray's threetar, a modified Squire strat with only 3 strings. I play bass guitar and use some Drums on Demand loops and recently re-wrote the lyrics so the vocals are new.

Talkin' of Boston...
...this reminds me of Morphine. Something about the low-down-swampy blues (and guitars with missing strings). I loved that band. Also have a soft spot for the Red Sox, although I prefer the Oakland Athletics - dommed forever to follow an also-ran team!

I like -

I wouldn't call it luck
I think it was hard work. Like...goin' up a mountain. But I am happy for the Japanese players, they are very good. Like you, Tadashi!

cool feel
to this one, i love all of the ambiance floating around with the grinding aspects. you are totally rocking those 3 strings, the top 3 are over rated anyways. great tune.

I concur
the top 3 strings are a bit overrated. I always liked this song when I first recorded it 3 years ago, and remixing it in GB4 was fun because with new ears I could simplify things and add some other things and it was partially due to your post about synth manipulation that I added a track where I did that using the track automation. Thanks for the comment!

Why didn't I think of this!!
A tribute to the 2k4 Redsox- beyond my iChat name, that is. Very funky song, Jim and quite a rocker- I really dig the main riff.

2008 is shaping up pretty well- I'd like to see them hang onto their young players. Santana would be great in the Sox uniform but I'd really prefer we give Bucholz or Lester the oppportunity to have a breakout season (in Boston)!

I have been playing music a long time. When I was growing up my brothers had a band called the Regal Tones which was quite popular in our little town in upstate New York State. They got bitten by the music bug and later went on to found the p... [see more]
