Lyrics:
Nothing

whistling firs bow low to the wind
catch a falling star from the skies

hear the whispered prayer begin
sense a million songs in your eyes

she only sings to get away
when things seem hopeless and there's nothing left to say

the whistling wind takes her away
there's nothing i can do to try to make her stay

better! &mdash 11/26/07 - 12:18:22 PM
Nicer mix than the prior... the singing feels better seated in the mix, but still remains clear and un-muddied. *insert prior kudos here*

thanks for swaying me into fixing the mix. i was experimenting with some very simple post-GarageBand mastering software, and ran afoul of an unexpected side-effect of non-linear peak rounding: it lets you turn up the gain, but it also relatively enhances the bass. you live and you learn...

really great, a lot to digest here. i think this needs to go on the ipod and get a serious listen. very different for you, i really love those back-up vox.

this was going to be a Lost Songs Project submission, but it got a little out of hand.

hope you liked it.

thanks

Another one... &mdash 11/27/07 - 03:16:46 AM
...for the headphones! Love the almost haiku-like lyrics. This is good music Bill. Really dig the arrangement. Mix is superb. Glad i found this one!

Be well friend!

i decided to enter this tune into a contest at OurStage. http://www.ourstage.com/fanclub/smokeyvw

i'm happy to hear that you picked up the poetic meter on the lyrics - i wasn't thinking haiku, just going for simplicity...

thanks

Cool mix &mdash 11/29/07 - 11:51:00 PM
Neat contrast between the opening vocals and your own singing. I love the tinkly piano, too.

i think the contrast might also enhance the sense of isolation between the people in this. this is a sort of "torch song" with a tinge of hopelessness.

thanks

I have &mdash 12/01/07 - 05:37:01 PM
that pic on the wall in my kitchen....however....I don't think that this is an "emo" song....just a good little rock tune....love the keys sounds....everything is layered nicely.......so why is your VW smokey??

Kudos Bill :-) &mdash 12/07/07 - 09:10:35 PM
It is better. I don't know why the lyrics make me think of the title of one of Maya Angelou's books - and a line from another more recent song - "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."

this tune is mostly dwelling on an "ending" - but i suppose it might form half of a nice pair of bookends with some other tune about a "beginning" - hmmm... gotta think about that...

thanks
