Glass (10)
Description:
We are Good Lighting Advocates for Starry Skies. We tried to make this piece as transparent as possible but we do hope that you won't see right thru us because we are very fragile and don't want to shatter into a million pieces if you decide to throw something at us.

Please enjoy our lost song from a very famous album

What a &mdash 11/30/07 - 02:01:55 AM
lovely piece of music. I obviously solved your very easy riddle but am still at a loss as to the 'very famous album' - feel really stupid.
Cheers
Len

I'm going &mdash 11/30/07 - 03:47:57 AM
to guess that 'Glass' is a clue... So Philip Glass... How about 'Koyaanisqatsi'

The mood does remind me of the opening and closing tracks...

Really enjoyed this - great!

Peter

Not Koyaanisqatsi &mdash 11/30/07 - 10:02:10 PM
...but I can see how that organ sound at the beginning might lead you down that pathway

You2 &mdash 11/30/07 - 04:56:48 AM
are made to do this sort of music.
Lovely as always but I can't tell you what album you play from.
Like Len says I feel really stupied.

This is drop dead gorgeous &mdash 11/30/07 - 08:02:21 AM
I'll go with Philip Glass - but I'll have to do a little digging to come up with the right album. It's likely that Peter is right.

Phil Who? &mdash 11/30/07 - 10:31:43 AM

:o) never heard of 'im and I feel stupid all the time ..
so I'm not worried by this :o) Fine atmospheric piece Bryn, dark and moody - almost 'Halloween' the movie soundtrack in some shifts... but it's not John Carpenter ..lol. I can lie and say "must be before my time" pfft.

I'm SO Confused &mdash 11/30/07 - 11:05:35 AM
I haven't watched 'Koyaanisqatsi' in many moons, and the music has not lingered in my memory, so I can't say that this evokes any sense of Philip Glass, although that would be the obvious choice because of the title.

On the other hand, Alan's comments about John Carpenter are on mark. This DOES fit right into a Halloween soundtrack.

So, I'm going with Philip Glass' Tribute to John Carpenter LP. lol

maybe Philip Glass &mdash 11/30/07 - 02:06:34 PM
for one of the Qatsi movies... I love it...

Not from any of the 'Qatsi' films &mdash 11/30/07 - 10:03:43 PM
but a good guess and thanks for the comments

i &mdash 11/30/07 - 03:25:37 PM
get the Phillip Glass thing definitely, but it also sounds Like Eno. maybe something off Music for films. Am I close? great job .

Philip Glass would be my guess &mdash 11/30/07 - 03:42:51 PM
but as to what album I have no idea.

I don't think it's koyawotsit as that always sounded much more sequenced to me.

Stumped again....

Cheers

I just listened to big sampling &mdash 11/30/07 - 07:40:39 PM
of Glass at iTunes - and I still can't pinpoint the album - but I'm even more impressed now than I was the first time I heard this. There are a lot of signature elements going all the way back to Einstein on the Beach - and then there's a little of the orchestral feel of the Low Symphony. Am I getting any closer?

Don't know... &mdash 11/30/07 - 08:00:26 PM
...either the artist or the album I'm afraid. Apparently I'm genre-impaired!

Nevertheless, I must say I am VERY impressed with this recording. Beautiful, albeit rather spooky, keyboard work in a flawless mix. Bravo!

Be well!

Alright - the gloves are off &mdash 12/01/07 - 10:15:07 AM
Is it possible that you deliberately misled us with the title and that what I'm hearing is a slowed down version of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells? It's the only "famous" record in this genre I can think of - except maybe something from Tangerine Dream. Oh no - I'm off on another search. No - I'm gonna throw Tubular Bells into the ring.

Absolutely not &mdash 12/01/07 - 10:26:37 AM
You were warmer with the earlier guess (and as hint the title isn't misleading)

Sorry to ruin the fun... &mdash 12/01/07 - 03:44:39 PM
but obviously you haven't heard Koyaanisqatsi if you think this is it! The original is like 73 minutes and this is only 3.12! So the answer is...: It is an excerpt(!) from said song/album/movie. The movie IS very cool too and is recommended to anyone, except for epileptic people, maybe.

Great remix btw!

:-)

No &mdash 12/01/07 - 03:59:42 PM
This isn't a lost song or excerpt from any of the Qatsi movies at all

Maybe I'll get Philip to share one of those pieces next time

;-)

Lots of people are sooo close though

Could this be 'The Hours'? Although I'm not sure how famous that is...

Thanks Peter &mdash 12/01/07 - 09:16:36 PM
It could be but it isn't

You should look back at least 10, maybe 15 yrs before that

Lovely, Haunting &mdash 12/01/07 - 11:25:13 PM
piece of music! I regret that I'm one of them cultureless boors who can't even make a guess as to the source artist or album... sigh. I'll have to just enjoy it on its own, and wait for the Big Reveal!

Very evocative piece of music. I do remember seeing the movie 'Koyaanisqatsi' a long time ago and this absolutely fits that state of mind.

LOL &mdash 12/02/07 - 07:35:36 AM
Well you have given loads of clues to who it is, unfortunately I don't know any of Philip Glass albums. Is it the album with weather storm on it?
I know Massive Attack used that piece on the album 'Protection', but that does not answer the LSP question.
Very good and lovely composition, the normal high standard you do. Very cool track.

I finally got it! &mdash 12/02/07 - 09:26:20 AM
But only after much guessing and many helpful hints from Biba. The answer is...to be revealed this Friday.

Well! &mdash 12/03/07 - 06:19:54 PM
I'm going to have to give up - I've gone through my, rather limited, Philip Glass collection and I can't place it. But it's been really nice hearing those albums again.

Looking forward to finding out!

Peter

Don't know &mdash 12/05/07 - 11:30:03 PM
I did think of Koyaanisqatsi, but you seem to have ruled that out, so maybe it's some Philip Glass that I'm not familiar with. However, it's REALLY reminiscent of some movie soundtrack, and I can't quite place which one... I'm trying to picture it, but it's too fuzzy in my minds eye to make out yet... an annoying tip-o-the-tongue, elusive, slippery thought. Maybe I'm chasing shadows tho; who knows?

[ Reply to This ]
OK, here goes.... &mdash 12/06/07 - 11:41:10 PM
Is it Philip Glass from Glass Cage? I guess we find out soon enough. In any event, a great piece that clearly reflects the Glass style. My hat's off to you!! (maybe we need to invent a time machine to get your work back onto the album!)
Take care,
Doug

It does have a Glass/Qatsi feel to it - especially in the low horn-like drones and the keyboard phases. Really enjoyed it!
