Description:
My submission to the Lost Songs Project. This is a collab with brother Will who supplied lyrics and vocals (we got to sing together on this one).

I found this track in a suitcase I bought at a swap meet. The tape was in there along with assorted auto parts and and a rancid stuffed monkey. When I got home and spooled it up on my reel to reel I couldn't believe it - I'd found a lost track from__________by________.

Lyrics:
Come on baby let’s get away
Leave these streets behind
Find them in the country
Those angels in our minds

Getting and spending we waste our powers
The ancient poet said
Visions of snow-capped mountains
Dancing in his head

They’re singing in a meadow
Flowers everywhere
Colors like a rainbow
Bursting in the air
And when the day is over
The sun is sinking down
We’ll travel down a two lane road
And find that little town

Getting and spending we waste our powers
The ancient poet said
Visions of snow-capped mountains
Dancing in his head

I’ll put on my boots and vest
You’ll where your party shoes
We’ll dine on stars and moonlight
Forget those city blues

Harvest? After the Gold Rush? &mdash 11/30/07 - 09:01:03 AM
I was going to try Neil Young with a clothes pin on the nose thing... LOL

In fact I have the lyrics started.....

Nice song!

After the clothespin? &mdash 11/30/07 - 11:35:02 AM
Interesting. No clothespins were used in this recording.

Insane Nag &mdash 11/30/07 - 10:41:51 AM
Certainly has the feel of NY & Crazy Horse, musically... but probably needs to come up a few keys to be authentic. Also needs more nasality vocally... perhaps a clothespin on each nostril? lol

I'm afraid I lost my keys. Thanks for stopping by.

I Know Who's Lost Track It Is... &mdash 11/30/07 - 10:51:23 AM
...It's not Neil Young's lost track. Joe Walsh lost this one!! It should have been on his 1973 album "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get".

and could also be &mdash 11/30/07 - 01:04:27 PM
a lost track from the "American Fool" album by John Cougar Mellencamp... This one had a slower beat than most of the other tracks so it got lost in the haste of getting it ready... perhaps.

Well done.. great hook-line, cool guitars. And a very true american folk-rock feeling in this one. Your two voices go pretty well together.

Thanks for the comments &mdash 11/30/07 - 02:06:04 PM
Will had to do his vocal on his H2 recorder without the benefit of hearing playback. I think he did a great job.

I thought Small Faces at first &mdash 11/30/07 - 01:42:12 PM
but the American accents put paid to that.

The guitar has Neil Young sound but the lyrics are a little flowery for him.

Dunno, I'm stumped.

Great rocker though :-)

Cheers

Too much work and not enough free time.

I was also going to say Neil Young &mdash 11/30/07 - 01:58:48 PM
or a Young influenced CSNY tune, but I'm also stumped. I agree with Dick, it's a great rock tune. Kudos!

yep &mdash 11/30/07 - 02:22:27 PM
This has a Neil Young Crazy Horse feel on the guitars...maybe a bit of Green on Red/Dream Syndicate too..
Tough one to call hehe

i'm &mdash 11/30/07 - 03:09:54 PM
going to say "After the Goldrush" but it could be a lost Buffalo Springfield track. This whole challenge is awesome so far. Great track. Loving those guitar parts.

gents. Like m2 - I'm really enjoying hearing everyone's work.
Steve Echo - I swear I didn't push the noise button - honest - I don't know how it happened.

little feat meets Neil Young meets the Lemon heads.. Got me ? love it anyway!!!

CSNY &mdash 11/30/07 - 05:54:06 PM
Nailed the Neil Young vibe totally. Don't know the albums well enough to guess, but near the Woodstock era. Like the piano!!!

[ Reply to This ]
Thanks for your note Philip &mdash 12/03/07 - 11:08:21 AM
Glad you dug the piano. It's not my instrument - I had to play the right and left hands on separate tracks. Channeling Jack Nitzsche. Oops - a hint.

Crazy Horse? &mdash 11/30/07 - 08:17:34 PM
Sounds a lot like Neil Young and band...but something about the vocal harmonies suggests another artist or group...I just can't quite place the sound.

Sure dig this though. Love that fuzzed out git soloing!

Be well bro!

I just... &mdash 12/01/07 - 12:09:07 AM
...liked the song, Bud. You and your brother are a great team!!! My bent has always been in somewhat different direction, as you know, but when I hear a "comfortable" song like yours, I can't help but take notice. You have such a solid and skilled sound to your band, characteristics that tell the listener "these guys know what they're doing." I'm glad to have heard this number...oh...great lead about 3/4 in... nice.
Good luck in the competition.
Peace.
Paul
(P.S. if I were to submit a "lost song" it would probably sound like Mozart or something...Ha!)

Well it &mdash 12/01/07 - 08:59:04 AM
sounds like NY to me too. Great track chaps and a lovely feel to it.

Okay,maybe... &mdash 12/01/07 - 10:04:11 AM
Neil Young and Crazy Horse, but it's a Danny Whitten song, so maybe from the first Crazy Horse album...

References to Wordsworth probably a little haute-falutin for Neil and company, though...Too many flowers for 'Tonight's The Night'...

Maybe 'Everybody Knows THis Is Nowhere'...

track Bud and I love this one!

Nice... &mdash 12/01/07 - 03:03:32 PM
...pick up on the Wordsworth allusion. You're probably right that it wouldn't show up on a Neil album, but it was the line that lead to the rest of the lyrics. New band: Willie and the Romantics!

Neil Young &mdash 12/01/07 - 10:56:38 AM
first impression was Southern Man... but no, wait Buffalo Springfield? (Neil again), no, how about Ohio? (still Neil) i dunno, Neil's got something to do with this.

anyway, it's a great ballad

thanks

My initial &mdash 12/01/07 - 12:16:40 PM
thoughts are Neil Young but as to which album - 'After The Goldrush' - perhaps I should keep my options open and go with Decade (only joking). Does have a bit of 'Southern Man' in there somewhere to my ears.

Great song.

Trying not to cheat &mdash 12/01/07 - 02:16:02 PM
by scrolling down to read other comments, so based on the opening riffs I'd say Petty, but now as the song plays I'm not too sure I have that right.

Ok, so now I scrolled down and I also hear the Neil Young comparisons too. But I'm sticking with Petty as my guess.

Nice track, Bud and also a great concept for song writing! Thanks for being such an active member here!

aarrggh it sounds soooo familar &mdash 12/02/07 - 07:57:08 AM
and I cannot think who it is. The voice has a Neil Young sound, wow, you sound like Neil Young, thats cool, although the music, I don't know. Really good track Bud. Like it alot.Very well played.

Neil Young? &mdash 12/02/07 - 12:49:45 PM
Very strong piece of music... excellent guitars, with a laid-back sound and feel that really suggest Neil's stuff.

But I'm not so sure, though. Could be a surprise lurking next week. 'Rancid Stuffed Monkey'... that's gotta be something. I tried Googling it and got this tune. No luck there.

Okay, my beer's on Neil Young.............................................I think.

I'm not even going to try to guess who... &mdash 12/02/07 - 06:00:39 PM
...I had to do a Renaissance piece for my own lost song (though Bryn and I managed to create a contemporary piece in collaboration :)

But I've been going around and catching all the LSP songs anyway. What fun!

You and your brother are a fantastic team...and this is a fantastic track :)

What a great idea these 'Lost songs' have been :)

Thank you!!!

Who knows &mdash 12/03/07 - 12:34:02 PM
The opening riff made me think of Ziggy-era David Bowie, but once it gets going it sounds more American, so ... er ... I dunno. But it's very pleasant listening whatever it is. Lovely guitar work and delicious vocal combinations.

And yes me and Dick are still working on ours. Getting there!
