Description:
Down the road the One Eyed Minstrel roams, give me teeth he cries but the children laugh - you don't laugh at Ginsberg or Keats or those other poets he cries back, but time waits for no man or child and that cannot be denied - just then Donovan appears on the street corner peddling his nirvana beads, I told you man this would happen - but nobody believed me, go tell it to Lady Macbeth I cry back - she bought those beads from you and nothing ever went right for that Lady afterwards! Aw shucks he cries and returns to his shell

The organ is a dead Dylan giveaway &mdash 11/30/07 - 03:02:22 PM
Blonde on Blonde is my guess. Don't care if I'm dead wrong - this is a great tune - wonderful vocals.

i'm thinking &mdash 11/30/07 - 03:03:35 PM
that this would have been on Blonde on Blonde. Maybe not but definitely Dylan. Loving that organ. This is a great tune, and the lyrics are great.

very cool &mdash 11/30/07 - 03:10:35 PM
If not for the organ, I'd have said Lou Reed's Transformer, but I'm probably going to have to go with the consensus here and opt for Dylan (although which album, I'm not sure...) Very cool song, with especially interesting lyrics. Nice work. Peace.

when dylan... &mdash 11/30/07 - 09:50:50 PM
... went electric! the organ and harmonica sealed the deal on it! plus the lyrics hold true.

Niiiice.... &mdash 11/30/07 - 10:04:52 PM
I can't nail this one. Sounds like Leonard Cohen backed by Dylan's band. In any case, it's a really cool tune. The music is sublime, but your singing is over-the-top wonderful. Bravo!

Be well!

Dylanesque &mdash 12/01/07 - 03:54:18 AM
I think you have a much nicer voice than Bob Dylan (well, you know what a big Bob fan I am, *cough*) but apart from that it sounds pretty much like him.

I am suprised the opening blast of harmonica didn't send you running away Rebsie! Cheers for listening in!

This is great! &mdash 12/01/07 - 04:44:42 AM
Love that Dylan sound - I'm going with 'Highway 61 Revisited' or perhaps 'Bringing It All Back Home'.

Harmonica...Hammond organ... &mdash 12/01/07 - 10:15:59 AM
...strumming guitar...rudimentary drumming...the word 'babe'...

No. Don't tell me. Talking Heads? Sly and The Family Stone?

Well, I'll go with Dylan, and the trio of albums: Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, and BLonde On Blonde... Leaning towards Highway 61 'cause of the organ...

I think people are responding to the vocal, too, which is a little more 'Reed-ish' or Leonard Cohen ish than overtly Dylanish... Needs a little more sneer for proper period Dylan...

I think EJH nailed it when he guessed Talking Heads... &mdash 12/01/07 - 05:35:59 PM
...haha!

I know who this is, but then I know who your rock idols are, too!!
Very well done, Steve :D

Don't you have a few more of these lost songs from this particular artist lying around there...somewhere....?? ;)

Lovely track &mdash 12/02/07 - 08:14:02 AM
Mixture of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, I said Bob and my wife said Leonard. So I had to put both. Nice pleasant track Steve. Well done. Good lyrics and well played.

Song &mdash 12/02/07 - 03:22:23 PM
Like the laid back sound.

My first impression is Lou Reed, even though Bob Dylan did much more in this style. Must be that your voice is closer to Reed's.

Thanks
Bill

KC and The Sunshine Band! &mdash 12/02/07 - 03:24:58 PM
No no no, bear with me on this. Before he moved to Florida, Harry Casey wandered the Midwest with a harmonica, writing music about street poetry and the sweat of working souls and identity... and... and...

You're not buying this at all, are you?

Okay. It sounds like Dylan, but maybe - ju-u-ust maybe - it's Rodney Crowell, but that's just me trying something different.

This is an excellent song, with a very strong sense of who it is and where it's going. I just don't know who it is and where it's going...

Cheers

I would have to say Dylan without the clothes pin on his nose.

Late I know &mdash 12/08/07 - 10:42:58 AM
But.... is it Donovan himself? Or Dylan? your mellow voice is nicer than his but the backing is pretty good and a bit of a give-away... I think , M
