Description:
Here is my LSP submission. I really got lost working on this and when I was done it didn't sound much like the album or band that inspired it. This is a remix, I will save the other for a rainy day. Its actually a hybrid lost song that belongs a little to an early album and a late album by the same group. The later album is the one that is missing a fun little instrumental piece, the earlier album is almost all instrumental.

Imitation &mdash 11/30/07 - 05:28:19 PM
Imitation is not as easy for me as it may sound. Hope I didn't muddle up the sound too much. [ Reply to This ]
I'm intrigued - &mdash 11/30/07 - 04:55:46 PM
the band has an early album that is almost all instrumental - which means their later work has lots of vocals. Doesn't fit the profile of a fusion band that this sounds a little like. I'm gonna think on this some more before I commit. Groovy tune though - lost or not. [ Reply to This ]

Like Steve I have no idea.
I'm not good at this game am I ?
But like all the other LS I've heard it works very well in its own right.
Cheers

you got me. i don't really know much about this genre (obviously). sounds awesome though, loving those keyboard parts (sooo moogy). [ Reply to This ]
Well... &mdash 11/30/07 - 07:20:17 PM
...could be George Duke or early electronic Herbie Hancock (Watermelon Man)...
...or The Crusaders minus guitar/sax...
I'm hearing the first two guesses, though...
Whatever it is, it is very, very cooooool.... [ Reply to This ]

it sounds slightly familiar &mdash 11/30/07 - 09:46:02 PM
along the lines of bands like weather report. but it has been so long that i can't be sure. I know I'm going to slap my forward hard when you announce it.
Nice piece Bill [ Reply to This ]

Just... &mdash 12/01/07 - 12:02:16 AM
...groovy! I don't know much about popular groups or bands as this has not been much of my interest over the years, but I do know when I hear a number that catches my interest because of a clever beat, a mellow orchestration, and a generally cool feel to it. This song fits that bill nicely, Bill, and I am glad you posted it. It stands up just by itself, in my book. Forget the comparisons. ... My one wish is that you'd have let the song continue maybe 15 seconds longer with a gentle fade. ..Nevertheless, I really like this number.
Peace.

Hi All &mdash 12/01/07 - 06:14:16 AM
Interesting guesses. The band in question is not a jazz group, although I can see the comparison to Jan Hammer (my original mix does sound like a lost song from him). I won't apologize for the beat, this band dabbled in a lot of beats. I will say that they probably would not have employed a shimmering flute voice :)
Off to visit my mother and then to listen to more lost songs.

we'd have to say... &mdash 12/01/07 - 06:46:46 AM
herbie hancock, definitely...but a lil less funky. not that's bad, great track nonetheless. great work!

Jan Hammer? &mdash 12/01/07 - 10:42:25 AM
Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer come to mind. i'm not sure though... there's clearly no guitar here.
nice tune - you got some pretty nice analog synth sounds going on here
thanks [ Reply to This ]
good playing &mdash 12/01/07 - 04:37:57 PM
a very sophisticated groove here... &mdash 12/01/07 - 05:40:42 PM
...fantastic playing.
Weather Report comes to mind, but (as I've said on 90% of these LSP songs) I just don't have the popular music knowledge to even make an educated guess.
I do know that I like it! :)
Thanks for sharing! [ Reply to This ]
sounds nice &mdash 12/01/07 - 06:55:08 PM
You've ruled out jazz groups &mdash 12/01/07 - 07:33:51 PM
so Herbie H is not in the running - would have been my guess. Regardless, this is a fun tune and certainly stands solidly on its own. Thanks!

Not a clue &mdash 12/02/07 - 08:35:12 AM
Although it is a brilliant composition, I love the organ and floating flute. My wife who is helping me with all this says it sounds a bit like Camel or Renaissance.
Very cool track. [ Reply to This ]

I really like Renaissance, next time we do lost songs I will try to resurrect one of theirs. How many people do you think have hear them?
Thanks. [ Reply to This ]
Emerson, Lake and Palmer &mdash 12/02/07 - 08:44:00 AM
my wife thinks it could be the above group. She likes this track so it must be good. [ Reply to This ]
Quite A Groove &mdash 12/02/07 - 12:18:48 PM
...but I can't begin to guess who the lost artist is. Love the synth runs! Was the water sound at the end a clue? [ Reply to This ]
Rik &mdash 12/02/07 - 03:08:49 PM
The Title is a clue. This was probably their least successful album. Maybe if this song was on it would have done better :) [ Reply to This ]
OK &mdash 12/02/07 - 06:41:32 PM
I'm going with ELP - My brother used to play their early records all the time - I think, except for the Greg Lake songs, they were mostly keyboard led instrumentals - this sounds more jazzy they I remember them though... Don't really know any of their records past Brain Salad Surgery or Works...

Good to hear from you. I struggled with the instrument choices. I have a different take on the tune coming out this weekend. [ Reply to This ]
Ok &mdash 12/06/07 - 05:47:26 PM
I'm finally ready to guess that it's ELP from Tarkus, though I'm not so sure it sounds proggy enough for that. Anyway, excellent playing, this sounds great. [ Reply to This ]
