Description:
Thanks to everyone for participating. Please use this page as an alternative forum to discuss your experience with the project. Rather than posting our sources on our own song pages - perhaps we can all post them here this weekend. That way all the songs and sources will be collected in the same place, and new visitors to our pages can still keep guessing while being directed here for the answers. If we each fave this track it will outlast our songs on the fan list and possibly attract more participants to this and future rounds. Am I crazy? Did I say thanks?

has been great - I've really enjoyed listening to all the entries and trying to work which albums/artists they are copying. An excellent concept! Love it.

I really enjoyed your selection and keep going back for more listens. I like being forced to pay more attention to what people are doing in their songs.

This has been a really cool project, I think the standard of the entries is very high indeed. I had a lot of fun doing my track.
I think this could be a good annual event at MJ?

Lots of fun! &mdash 12/03/07 - 08:37:22 AM
I finally finished listening to all the entries (was supposed to head out on the road 1am this morning, but work screwed up my schedule so I got to listen to more LSP-all rightta!)

I had a ton of fun this time... did it show? Hah! And I went even deeper into playing with vocals (and vocal effects) then I've ever done before. I'm still amazed at what I can do with GarageBand... (and coincidentally, the Artist I Can't Yet Identify specifically mentions GarageBand as something someone could do a lot of creative stuff with. Very cool.)

I'm blown away by the quality of the entries. I've guessed a few, but many... I'll just have to wait a week and see. I'd say this challenge was a top-rate success!

Any reason why LSP hasn't faved this page? Or is that somehow immoral?

wow what a crazy fun project. learned alot and had a lot of laughs. best thing was getting to know fellow artist a little better and that was outstanding. want to thank each of you for your kind and generous comments on our collab with Bud...oh yeah..that guy Bud....thanks Kevin! i will always be indebted to you for the opportunity and experience the Lost Song Project gave davisamerica. so when is round two...????

I agree with you Jack &mdash 12/03/07 - 08:55:01 PM
This was very educational for me. Sent me to iTunes and Wikipedia more than once. The level of work really was impressive too.

I don't think we should jump into round two too quickly - too much of a good thing tends to kill the fun I find. Maybe there's a new and different challenge lurking out there waiting to be launched when the dust settles.
Someone's probably got their thinking cap on right now I bet. We'll just have to wait and see.

Lots of fun! The hard part was trying to figure out who I would pretend to be. Everyone really stepped up to the plate.

Maybe next time narrow it down to four or five albums to choose from.

Bud, i liked your narrative clip. My warped and twisted mind almost expected you to break out in a song near the end. A Mel Torme kinda thing.

Thanks to you for making it a reality.

Why so surprised? &mdash 12/04/07 - 12:10:44 AM
I've watched Cher and Loni Anderson do those infomercials ya know. And William Shatner does some great dramatic reading when he isn't shilling for Priceline.

i keep thinking this might be lost Moody Blues tune. maybe one they did when they were working on Nights In White Satin?

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
----The Moody Blues

yeah. definitely. this sums up The Lost Songs Project perfectly. i guess they didn't have room for this one on the album. or they were too busy playing gongs backwards

this was definitely fun! i personally can't wait for the next LSP, although i have a lot of work to do finishing up the sons album. everyone did great on their songs, and i'm still stumped by a lot of them...can't wait to find out who the albums/artists are! i agree with davis too, this was a great way to meet and interact with a lot of macjammers i hadnt met yet, and it's been a pleasure! hope everyone keeps in contact, you've all been really great.

wonderful post - that's what this thing was supposed to be all about - your comment is very affirming. Soon we'll post the answers here and then we can BS about that for a while. I like the idea that this thread has become a clubhouse of sorts. Cool. Who wants to tell the first ghost story?

Extremely helpful project &mdash 12/06/07 - 12:24:24 AM
for me. I really worked with chords for the first time trying to emulate my "favorite" band. I certainly had a laugh (or three) while I was putting it together. I'll be posting it very soon.

I've enjoyed listening to all of the entries- there are some extremely clever ones that were submitted.

Thanks again for putting this together!

This has been a frickin' hoot!!! &mdash 12/06/07 - 11:12:32 PM
The LSP has been loads of fun. First I got to be all nostalgic about past bands, then had a lot of fun picking an influential piece and trying to emulate the style, and the best part was listening to everyone else's creations and trying to peg who they were presenting. Like others, iTunes and Wiki searches were really helpful - I think I even learned something. Plus, as a result of biba_nova's song I ordered some Kraftwerk tunes from iTunes (so if anyone is getting rich off the LSP, it isn't us!!). And finally, I got to know some of my bretheren and sisteren (?) a little better - you folks are really a cool bunch!!!!

In particular, many thanks to Bud and any other organisers, idea refiners, roadies, engineers, and all who worked to bring this project to life.

Until next time.....
Doug

I enjoyed &mdash 12/08/07 - 04:35:34 AM
listening to all the songs contributed, but I was at a loss with regards to various bands as I think my memory is failing LOL. A couple though, I'm pretty sure I was spot on.I look forward to knowing who they all were. Now for the unveiling of my own contribution...... It was/is Fats Waller from...'I'm a Dreamer' which just missed being included on the Album 'The very Best of Fats Waller', cheers all M

Thanks a Lot &mdash 12/08/07 - 10:08:36 AM
It was entertaining to hear how folks imaginatively sought to emulate the *sound* of well-known artists. Some were incredibly good at it, but all approached it with verve and enthusiasm.

Perhaps even more entertaining was in what other people hear in these compositions. It never ceases to amaze me how different ears... with different points of reference... hear so many different possibilities.

The last couple months of the year are typically my busiest, so, unfortunately, I didn't have time to record anything for the project.

But ever since I first read of the idea, I haven't been able to play anything that doesn't sound like a *knock-off* of some well-known artist. :P

So, Thanks a Lot, Kevin. If my next few musical posts sound somehow... *familiar*... now you'll know WHY. LOL

--- Joe

People &mdash 12/08/07 - 12:58:31 PM
Rik Berryere really cracked me up with his response to "People (Running Through My Mind)"

"I know this I know this I know this I know this.... damnit, I don't know this! But I know it, it's just there, right there.... got this image of psychedelic fields of butterflies and flowers and a certain 45rpn record going around and around in front of me... I need to focus on this. Must go to my train room and think."

In retrospect, I now see he meant "Strawberry Fields" which was the other A-side of the 45 of the tune I was emulating.
