Strappado is a form of torture in which a victim is suspended in the air by means of a rope attached to his hands which are tied behind his back. Weights may be added to the body. Other names for strappado include reverse hanging and Palestinian hanging. It is best known for its use in the Medieval Inquisition and has since been used by the governments of Turkey, Iran, and Nazi Germany, and reportedly by the U.S. military in Iraq.
a very cruel torture...this song is, in a sense, about more of an emotional strappado.
Lyrics:
-Strappado-
a diorama of distress
endless, grueling tortured test
it hurts so much to see you fail
to struggle so and not prevail
you know my face was hanging pale
beneath the blood drippin down
i see the scar beneath the skin
fevers boiling all cognition
how will love ever win?
no one agrees is it virtue or sin
pull the bandage from your face
then quickly move it back in place
if it could still be called a face
ruined, staring into space
it hurts so much to see you fail
to struggle so and not prevail
you know my face was dead and pale
beneath the blood drippin down
i see the scar beneath the skin
fevers boiling all cognition
how will love ever win?
no one agrees is it virtue or sin
hear you lie with your eyes and body open
what a shame to see you lay completely broken
i see the scar beneath the skin
fevers boiling all cognition
how will love ever win?
no one agrees is it virtue or sin
broken bones and broken hearts
resistance ends in severed parts
the hours late and numbers few
you were too blind to see the truth

i can see the alice in chains thing, but it's mostly the harmonies. this is a good song, i'd be way into hearing more bass tho. it would really kick up the heavy sludge vibe. [ Reply to This ]

really familiar with 'Alice in Chains' but it did remind me a little bit of The God Machine coupled with The Sisters of Mercy - which is great IMO. Really dark.
