Description:
Sunday Morning,
Dusseldorf, Germany
December 2007
So there I was riding my bicycle down Mintropstraße 16 when I went over a bump in the road and my chain came off. I also skinned my knee. As I was rolling on the floor in agony this Mercedes Benz pulled up and the driver got out to help me. It turned out that the driver and his mate were keen cyclists themselves and they could see I was in a bit of a spot. They offered to take me and my bike back to their workshop to get fixed up.
So, in the Mercedes I jumped and off we went.
As we were driving along, I told them about the GLASS song I had just done and the Lost Song Project in general. One of the blokes named Florian, seemed particularly interested in the whole thing and said macjams sounded like a great place.
As we pulled up to their place, I noticed a small sign that said KLING KLANG.
After they helped me fix my bike and gave me a plaster for my knee they asked some more about the Lost Song Project. They told me they were musicians, but hadn't been very productive in recent years and wondered if they could upload something themselves. They asked if I would like to see their recording space and help them to record a track for LSP.
I followed them through the door of the KLING KLANG building and sat down on the settee. The other guy, Ralf started pressing buttons, making their studio come to life with red flashing lights, electrical hums and weird bleeping noises. A couple of robots walked in through the door on the left and one of them asked me if I wanted a cup of tea. I said yes, and the robot went off to make it. Ralf and Florian then told me to choose a synth to play. Their studio was amazing...full of synths, samplers and drum machines and all kinds of sci fi stuff. So, we started jamming a few riffs, the robots were singing along and we recorded a tune.
My leg is better and my bike is fixed.
Ralf and Florian sent me away with this recording on my ipod which although is not technically a lost song from any famous album, it is still a lost song ...because unfortunately one of the robots spilled my tea on the digital recorder just after I had it copied on to my ipod and temporarily shut KLING KLANG down.
This is the only copy in existence.

That'd be my guess too, although I am not completely updated on all their albums...
Another nice LSP, anyway!

Well &mdash 12/02/07 - 06:06:42 PM
Kraftwerk without a doubt but as to which album... I think it fits in more with their earlier material so perhaps Autobahn - I don't think it's 'poppy' enough for Trans Europe Express or The Man Machine or weird enough for Radio Activity... But you never know...!
In any case, it's really well done. You've capture their sound really well.

Great tune! I'm with the crowd on Kraftwerk but will be contrarian and guess the album is Electric Cafe since the sound is more 'developed'.
Thanks!

Kraftwerk &mdash 12/04/07 - 06:48:57 PM
this has got to be a lost Kraftwerk tune
reminds me Computer Love off of Computer World a little.
but since you mention robots several times, it must be Man Machine [ Reply to This ]

love it &mdash 12/06/07 - 05:46:46 PM
you always create a sense of depth with your comps. this one has such a great balance between the traditional electro pop type synth a and then the wonderful ambient overtones as well. sweetly done. Ralf and Florian sound like great people. [ Reply to This ]

Yep it's got to be Kraftwerk ... though I don't know their stuff well enough to identify the album. (My husband's the expert.)
Nice work! [ Reply to This ]
