Description:
We decided to put on a concert for our multitude of fans, lol
As the music was nearing completion, Allen noted that it reminded him of cruising the interstate and getting to the point of all-out flooring it!
Jason took the concept to paper, sent Allen a rough lyrical sketch, and Allen took it from there.
To get the song to its current point, the song underwent more face-lifts than Carrot Top and Joan Rivers combined!
This is closest Allen and Jason have come to actually jointly writing a song to date.
It's a grooving rocker with plenty of Monty Cali thunder thrown in!
We are hoping that when the world settles for him, Chris (Pickquick Records) joins us on this tune.
D-load it, put on CD, get in your car... but don't look to us when you get a ticket! haha This is music to cruise by for sure!
we kept it simple, loud and ROCKING!!!
We always appreciate you stopping by. Check back often for more heaviness!
As alway this song is

Lyrics:
Music and Lyrics: Allen Dean & Jason Whitman

OVERDRIVE

Dust kickin’ from behind
My baby’s on my mind
And I’m comin’ home

Empty roads, sleepy towns
Desert wind whippin’ ‘ round
Got the pedal all the way down

No time to stop for gas
Full tank, gonna make it last
And I’m comin home

I know soon I’ll be there
I can almost smell your hair
And baby, I’m coming to you

So long I’ve been gone
Your home fire’s burning strong
And I’m missing you

This car is way too slow
I feel the engine glow
Temperatures boilin hot

Heartbeats the only sound
2 am the music’s loud
And I’m comin home

I know soon I’ll be there
I can almost smell your hair
And baby, I’m coming to you

White knuckles on the wheel
White lines begin to peel
Red lights, sirens blowing
Just make my engine scream

Overdrive – gonna push this car until it flies
Overdrive—the only way I feel alive

Thank you guys for posting it. It's a real Metal Gem ...
Jason's idea of making the song live was a real clever idea. KUDOS for both of you! Thank you again for posting my message.

The Live feel... &mdash 12/03/07 - 04:02:53 PM
...is absolutely perfect for this piece. Really cool use of the acoustics. Just a flat out great tune, guys...kudos...

btw: yeah. Gotta shanghai Chris and get him in here. He'll know just what to do, I'm sure...

chris has a few things in the chute before he gets to this one.
we have been wanting to incorporate him for some time now.
during the heavy section, the chord progression does not follow a "set scale", so between that and his schedule, we told chris to relax, take his time and see what inspiration comes his way.
we are looking forward to it!
when i heard allen's vocals, i immediately thought "live"
it took me a week to mix right. i'd mix a bit, send it to allen, he'd offer suggestions about it... on and on till he either thought it was just right or he was so sick of hearing it... you decide :)
thanks for stopping by and digging the tune.

Yeeeee-hah! BRING IT! &mdash 12/03/07 - 04:21:49 PM
One more reason for folks to "hate" you Allen! Ha ha...

Great stuff! The vocal is quite remarkable. It reminds me of someone else, but I can't quite place who it is.

Kickin jam in the mid-section boys! Really nice textural variations on the guitar work.

Be well!

was all jason's baby. i added a small bit during the writing of the music ( three guesses which section... ), and moved the lyrics a bit for meter and timing, but he wrote, arranged, mixed, and mastered this one, and i must say, it came out great. great job jason, you are really getting into your groove here...

allen is a founding member here! be sure to check the rest of our catalogue!
i am pleased that you dig the tune. thank you!
it was the most challenging mix i have done to date, but it sure was fun!

thanks Allen, but... &mdash 12/03/07 - 08:32:08 PM
"a small bit", my posterior. you are too humble!
for the record, Allen took my bass line and re-played into something grooving, programmed the drums, added the heavy electric part (which works way better than I could do cuz he can double-pick faster than me) AND provided the killer vocals than we have all come to expect from him!
as always, I am honored to have such a talent as my writing partner.
he was as much apart of this song's life as me!
so, while the concept is my brainchild, the end result is due to powerhouse teamwork. there is no "I" in Montgomery California (except for the ending line in "Pharaoh", of course, ha)
and my mixing skills are the result of tedious note-taking during our many conversations. Thanks, bro!

the vocal in particular just seems to jump out. rock radio ready. the music is the perfect foil. love the slow wind up, while the car pumps to all 8 cylinders. crowd noises fit like a glove. super mix

oh... &mdash 12/04/07 - 07:06:53 PM
... i almost forgot Alan Brady!
his version woth Allen on 'Long Way Home' was a HUGE inspiration when it cam to mixing. He set the "live" bar pretty high. so i listened, and listened... tried to remember all the concerts I have been to, listened to ALL of my live albums (A LOT) to get the vibe a real as possible.
But, it was Alan's piece that stoked the fire's of creativity.
Thanks APB!!!

thank you all &mdash 12/08/07 - 10:56:58 PM
for your kind support of our colaboration. we are a little known entity around these parts, and i am sure as more come to find out about our tunes and the fact we are a virtual band soley due to this killer music site, we will garner more fans. macjams is where we met, and decided to do more than the occasional jam, or colab, and if not for this site, i would have never made this killer music and made a close friend in jason. so, spread the word, and thanks for stopping by.

This sounds cool with the live feel for sure. This will be fun to work on. You guy's make a team to be reckoned with. Very powerful performance. The transition between the acoustic and electric guitars is just perfect. Very smooth. I'll be laying down some tracks on it later on today (gulp!).

You guys ROCK!

Congrats!
