Keywords:
Pop (445)lie (7)glockenspiel (3) ()
Description:
I have to apologise for the quality of this. I've copied it from a flexi disc given away with a fanzine and not really been able to tidy it up.

The story is that the band were filming on the South coast (although I'm not sure those scenes ever made it to the final film) and apparently having a hard time with the schedule during the day and the parties at night. During a brief break they found one of those recording booths that used to be a regular feature in English seaside towns. They thought it'd be a great laugh to try and record something in the booth (despite having access to the best studios and engineers).

Space was a little cramped so no bass or drums although the drummer did buy a toy glockenspiel at a nearby souvenir shop.

The flexidisc is claimed to be by The LPs and they obviously weren't too impressed with the song (and I have to agree that lyrically and musically it wasn't one of their best) as it never made an album. Even the vocals leave a lot to be desired. Just goes to show you that even superstars have their off days.

Cheers

Dick

Lyrics:
This morning I woke up
Sometimes I don't have to try
This morning I broke up
Thinking back to the night you lied

You lied, when you told me
Our love would last for ever
You lied, when you told me
Our love would last for ever and ever

My windows are open
Trying to let the summer in
There's no use in hoping
When love is just a sin

When you lie, and there's no love
No love to last for ever
When you lie, and there's no love
No love to last for ever and ever

I don't know many people who could get away with doing the Beatles, but you've done it.

Which album though? Hmm ... probably an early one like Please Please Me.

Now, where's our LSP collab? ;)

or merseyside generally...on the other hand it could be off an early Guided By Voices album too?

Southend &mdash 12/04/07 - 04:18:26 PM
sorry, it wasn't the south coast and they did have a bit of a tough time ;-)

Tell you what though, that flexidisc still plays (after a fashion) even though it's over 40 years old. I'm not sure CDs will.......

Toy Glockenspiels &mdash 12/04/07 - 02:44:06 PM
...always handy to have in a pinch, aren't they?

I'm going to have to go with the Fab Four too! Wonderful atmosphere and sound... those rice-crispie crackles are the perfect touch!

lost Beatles track - sounds awfully like 'In My Life' in parts! But I guess it belongs to 'A Hard Days Night' having read your text

Whatever happened to those recording booths? I remember there was one at Victoria station in the late 60s...

Love the lo-fi sound!

The Quarrymen &mdash 12/04/07 - 10:10:13 PM
That is what I think ...hehe... nice tune, Dick.

The Quarrymen (sometimes written as The Quarry Men) (circa late 1956 - Oct 1959) are an English skiffle group formed in Liverpool in the latter part of 1956 by John Lennon with several school friends. It was the band that eventually evolved into The Beatles. The group's name was inspired by the name of the Quarry Bank grammar school, which Lennon and most of his band-mates attended.

And this song was never recorded just an demo tape it was LOST lol
I am glad you find it again THX...hahaha

Plenty of pictures of the Quarrymen but I'm not sure there are many recordings so it wasn't a bad guess.

Sounds like you and the Fab 4 had a great time in that booth! You have really captured their sound - and the glock, is that the inspiration of George Martin? As to the album, I'd guess it was a special fan club release that most of us never saw.

Loved it!!

Well that certainly sounds like Mr Lennon doing the count in - and I am getting a bit of Beatles but another group as well although I can't put my finger on it right now. Anywelk, it has a timeless pop quality and could be a hit today - ace glock solo btw!

And the answer is &mdash 12/09/07 - 03:49:45 AM
The Beatles! TBH it could have been any of the pop groups of the middle sixties. Mindless lyrics and singalong tune. The perfect pop song!

Opening instrumental... &mdash 12/07/07 - 04:28:43 PM
...reminds me of "In My Life", Rubber Soul album...

...something about the full tune, though, reminds me of Chad and Jeremy (Distant Shores album).

Last chord reminds me of "In My Life" again...

So: I DON'T KNOW!!!!

I'll go with "In My Life"...though I loved Chad and Jeremy.

I am actually reworking it with a new verse and extra instrumentation.

I actually didn't think much of the song and was going to delete it but it seems to have something and , as you say, deserves a better recording.

Watch this space!
