Description:
This is my entry for the LSP contest; a light little number for easy listening with a beat. Wasn't thinking about the lost songs when I began this song... until I realized whose style this was. The piano part isn't in this version LOL (can't play well enough). He recorded lots of songs from blues to jazz from the early fifties (I think) and had a comic style with him. His music still sells as I gad to look for an album that this should have been added to.... and yes they're still selling.
Lyrics:
I'm often told I'm a dreamer,
I sometimes think that it's true,
'Cause things just seem to happen, When I think about you.
Some might say I'm a schemer,
How else could I have met you?
I had to work to persuade you,
To make my dreams come true.
Chorus
I had to think of somethin'
To bring you to my point of view,
So I just told you that I love you,
An' now you've made my dreams come true.
Verse
Now all the time that I'm dreamin"
Weavin' lovely thoughts about you,
I hope an' pray that you're schemin'
Just to make my dreams come true.
Scat break ( no not that! LOL)
I had to think of somethin',
to bring you to my point of view,
So I just told you that I loved you,
Then you made my dreams come true,
Now all the time that I'm dreamin"
Weavin' lovely thoughts about you,
I hope an' pray that you're schemin'
Just to make my dreams come true.
I hope schemin' dreamscome true....
All the time...
Just keep on schemin'... an' make my dreams come true..
Make 'em all come true, Baby I'm yours.

Great to have &mdash 12/04/07 - 07:30:05 PM
a lost song from you. I have no idea who it could be however... early fifties! Hmmm, I'll have to come back to this.

Hi Peter, &mdash 12/04/07 - 07:34:45 PM
I have the advantage of age with this artist LOL and he must have been performing even before the 50's, cheers M [ Reply to This ]

Stumped &mdash 12/04/07 - 07:57:01 PM
I really think I have heard this guy before, but I can not put a name to the sound. Nice light hearted song. I will listen again and maybe have a guess.
Thanks

The clue &mdash 12/04/07 - 08:09:40 PM
is really in the melody and as a pianist you should have a clue... and that's a clue, Regards M [ Reply to This ]
Guess &mdash 12/05/07 - 03:52:52 PM
This musician was a piano player, and he is still pretty popular so I will suggest Jimmy Durante. [ Reply to This ]
LOL Nope! &mdash 12/06/07 - 07:05:35 AM
Not him, but I like it... you've suggested him on another of my songs LOL Are you trying to say something about my nose ??? LOL cheers M [ Reply to This ]
LOL &mdash 12/06/07 - 02:23:02 PM
I don't recall making the reference before, but now that you mention noses ;)
Seriously, I think the light hearted style and first class presentation of your music has some similarity to Durante's. Back to the drawing board on my guess, and only a couple days left! [ Reply to This ]
It was &mdash 12/07/07 - 03:41:31 PM
my song 'Just Smile' I think. It may be a big nose, but I can still hold my head up LOLOL cheers [ Reply to This ]

nice &mdash 12/04/07 - 09:05:56 PM
sure makes me think of Louis Armstrong
how about Spencer Williams ("I Ain't Got Nobody") ? [ Reply to This ]
Hi Smokey &mdash 12/05/07 - 05:04:36 AM
Not him, but I see what you mean with the Spencer Williams song (never did know his name), thanks for the reminder, I loved that song, M [ Reply to This ]
a familiar sound &mdash 12/04/07 - 09:27:46 PM
but if it's not Louis. then heck I'm a bit stumped.
comic style? and he was a pianist? [ Reply to This ]

I can't figure the artist, but you strike a really nice shuffle here. Your vocal is outstanding, esp liked the little improv/solo vox. A little louie armstrong in there. nice mix [ Reply to This ]
I almost &mdash 12/05/07 - 04:54:05 AM
asked you to do the piano bit for me, because mine's being tuned LOL( I lie... I can't play well enough for this style) as there should be a piano there as well. Thanks for the nice comment John, regards M [ Reply to This ]
Very good &mdash 12/04/07 - 10:37:06 PM

The piano comment kinda rules this out &mdash 12/05/07 - 03:31:26 PM
but I hear Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks. I know that's not it - but now I've gotta do a little research. Fantastic song though - I really like the mood and swing. I'll be back. [ Reply to This ]

Maybe &mdash 12/05/07 - 04:03:28 PM
you're too young Steve... but then again... Thanks for the comment though, appreciated, regards M [ Reply to This ]
If this is supposed to sound like Louis Armsrong. &mdash 12/05/07 - 04:17:48 PM
You nailed it Maurice. Fantastic lyrics and the rhythm guitar sound perfect for the song. I'd like to see you replace the muted trumpet with a regular trumpet or sax part. Also you might want to use a standup bass instead of a bass guitar. But hey, what do I know. other than that I really like what you've done here Maurice, it's a great song and definitely one Sachmo would have done.
Great work my friend
Ed [ Reply to This ]
It is.. &mdash 12/05/07 - 04:29:15 PM
a song he might have done, but alas Ed, it's not him LOL. I'm not mad on the trumpet sounds I have, that's why I tweaked on one of my 'Stiff' sounding horns for a softer more intimate sound, and the bass was a 'session bass'. Glad you approve anyhow, thanks a lot Ed [ Reply to This ]
Cool lovely track &mdash 12/05/07 - 04:57:22 PM
but I have not a clue. Sorry. This is a very nice track thats well done though. [ Reply to This ]

Hihihihi, I see a slapstick movie. Bad ending, but better for all. She either learned from her scheming or he is satisfied with life (=her) as it is. Very sweet execution. Baby I'm yours..... [ Reply to This ]

The Way the Guesses Are Going... &mdash 12/05/07 - 08:41:52 PM
I was beginning to think Rudy Vallee, but that may be stretching the Time Machine a wee bit TOO much. lol
I could be wrong, Maurice, but I believe this may be the first MJ tune with scat singing. ;)
Nice job on the style... maybe Cab Calloway?
--- Joe [ Reply to This ]
He's not &mdash 12/06/07 - 07:02:48 AM
the one, but good guess. As I said earlier the clue is in the melody as well as the style. I could have done a vocal impersonation of him as most people can, but....didn't LOL... just the style, regards M [ Reply to This ]
Dreamy &mdash 12/05/07 - 09:20:05 PM
Really well made Maurice, I thought Louis Prima as well
Your singing in this is like smooth honey [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Tom, &mdash 12/06/07 - 06:53:32 AM
Nice to see you again, but it's not him, thanks for the honey remark, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
I don't... &mdash 12/05/07 - 10:42:48 PM
...know that much about vocal music popular history, so I won
t speculate...but I know a comfortable song when I hear one. This is it! Such a mellow rendition filled with all sorts of confidence and perfect control of every element. Your vocals are really wonderful here. It reminds me a little of "I'm sittin' on top of the world...".. that REALLY goes back a long way... Anyway, I am so glad my download worked tonight so that I could hear this little jewel of a number. Soooo smoooooooothe.....Yeh.
Peace.

but the melody/style does sound familiar for some reason. Very nice job on this one! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Mikey &mdash 12/06/07 - 07:09:26 AM
keep thinking about the melody and you'll get it. I'll just say that one person here has got it right though, regards M [ Reply to This ]

George Formby??? I can only think of one song he did that is a little in this style, but I think he's before my time.
Lovely swinging lilt to this Maurice! Well made, and I really enjoyed the tune.
Keep well,

Though George Formby was from the same town as myself and I can do the perfect accent for him LOL it's not him. Glad you liked this, but I could have used your piano skills to make it better, regards M [ Reply to This ]

wonderful, maurice - you're mr smooooth.
your scattin brought large grins - truly fine job of staying in character thruout.
if this were in my hands, i'd up the guitar, and background in general.
don't cover up your fine vocal, but surround it a bit more dynamically.

Love this style.... This is such a cool track, well done Maurice!!!!!! Sounds like the mid to late Forties, maybe early fifties.... grand music poured out of those little boxes into the air then and this little diddy is just awesome!!!!!!
Mucho thanks,

This was done in a kind of competition a while ago where the listeners had to guess whose LP the song would be missing from. This one was 'The very best of Fats Waller', Glad you enjoyed it, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
Love the stories you tell moviz &mdash 02/14/08 - 12:56:02 AM
your words seem well thought out. Enjoy the scat singing, I am not sure were you get your singing experience, but it sure sounds like you had public experience for sure. It sure seems to me. I'll have to read your bio.
Very pleasant to listen to Moviz.

Didn't expect to see anyone back here, so thanks for listening to this and for the comment. I did sing publicly for many years and that's the experience I have.... nothing like a live audience for bringing out the best... nerve racking though it can be, as you will know, cheers M [ Reply to This ]
