Description:
This one’s for Gail (http://www.macjams.com/artist/gail60) who’s been after me to “write something ugly for a change.” I know she’s only kidding because she otherwise writes the most gracious and kind comments. But “Jellies” just happened a couple of weeks ago and I thought I’d post it just to see what folks thought. I’m sorry, Gail. I’ll try to do better next week.
(Now I need to find a short film about jelly fish and my little liquid romance can accompany some strangely wonderful little creatures. But don’t touch. They hurt. Looking only.

An excellent piece of music.... &mdash 12/05/07 - 03:11:59 PM
Paul, this is excellent cinematic soundtrack material.
Refreshing, different and complete, in such a small, well wrapped package.
Another tune for my ipod!!
I think Gail will be pleasantly surprised with this.
Take care.

different from you Paul, but no less beautifully peaceful. It's the kind of music that does play in the background to those marvellous underwater nature films, regards M [ Reply to This ]

flowing new-age dreams &mdash 12/05/07 - 07:31:08 PM
nice wafting softness, tinged with occasional dissonances that eventually resolve sweetly. If only I'd remembered to bring my video camera into the Monterey Bay Aquarium last year, I would have the perfect "Moon Jelly" video for you, they are mesmerizingly beautiful to watch. I can see Gail stamping her foot, rolling her eyes and saying "See! I knew you couldn't write anything ugly! Ha!" :-)

Ugly? &mdash 12/06/07 - 07:58:25 AM
Having been stung by a jellyfish, I can assure you, this piece is not ugly enough for the feeling. It is, however, dreamy and liquid and floating, perfect for jellyfish that don't sting. (wishful thinking here). You did say not to touch, though... You capture it perfectly, as usual. :-) [ Reply to This ]

Something different from you, Paul, &mdash 12/06/07 - 02:47:53 PM
but very sweet and beautiful. By making this perfect soundtrack to the Jellyfish Rendezvous you shamelessly missed your Gail-goal to make something ugly. But we forgive you! Oh, we forgive you!!

Sorry, Paul... &mdash 12/07/07 - 04:41:38 PM
...but this is not ugly. By any stretch of the imagination.
Nice side of you to see and hear.... [ Reply to This ]
Ambient &mdash 12/09/07 - 07:50:22 AM
I can picture the jelly fish, but most stories about jelly fish these days are darker because exploding jelly fish populations are a sign of ecological disaster. So I would call this ambient, and in that context you could extend it as a long relaxing track.
Thanks

Thre's an amazing jellies exhibit &mdash 12/09/07 - 08:54:07 PM
at the Monterey Aquarium. It was at least 10 years ago that I saw it - but this brought them back like it was yesterday. Cool little buggers they are - and this is a great track - though not ugly - but neither are jellies. [ Reply to This ]

Beautiful &mdash 12/12/07 - 03:58:42 AM
I can really see this music as the soundtrack to an underwater documentary or why not as relaxation music (like music you hear in a spa.)
Well done, as always! [ Reply to This ]

I've been quite busy... &mdash 12/16/07 - 09:42:11 AM
...and not really able to listen well or appreciate things enough to leave a decent comment, but I want you to know that, different as it is, I keep coming back to this one...
I've been reading Ian MacDonald's 'Revolution In The Head', about the Beatles' music, and this fits into that imaginative, space-between-pop-and-classical-and-Eastern-music that happened in about 1965-1966...
All this to say, I really enjoy it. Also goes well with the falling snow outside my window...
