No Way Out (the Shadows) w/Michael2 and Alannah)
[Completely inspired by michael2’s “reveres folk”]
http://www.macjams.com/song/36290
I like finding ways to jam here on Mjs.
This time it was the newly founded
‘Workbench’.
A post left for grabs by Michael2 called ‘reveres folk’ caught my ear, and well, I couldn’t shake it. Imbedded in my brain, his melodies kept going on and on in my head,… still do.
So
I added some stuff then called on Alannah.
And man, she put the finishing pieces to the puzzle. Just the way I imagined it.
but
Better! Way better!!
Thank U Alannah for your signature vocal and additional lyrics
And Thank You Michel2 for ‘reverse folk’ and for your good spirit
peace

All the elements coalesce into something haunting and somehow spiritual. The voices are the key. There is resonance between the voices, almost like an ethereal dialogue. I like all the sounds; nothing is superfluous. Beautiful. Peace.

You have used such perfect words to describe this tune. I give most of the credit to Michael2 for his inspirational 'revere folk'
but spiritual and ethereal are such great descriptions for how it felt to create this/'No Way Out' version
Thank You

Fantastic use of the three voices, this drifts like something heard in a dream, forming and collapsing. Great stuff guys.
timothy devine
Thanks for giving this a listen. It was a fun project.
Listening to your stuff has been an inspiration. You have really got it going on with the fine mixes and great talent you have for creating fine music.
great to hear from you

With the oriental sounds and dreamy mood this takes me straight back to the Beatles and their psychedelic and eastern period.
Cool with all he echo's on the voices, and the floating feel of this.
Could be a lost track from sgt. peppers...

I wanted to be a Beatle
at times (in my room when nobody was home)I was a Beatle
/OK,You got me, I still want to be a Beatle
I am a huge Beatle fan and working on this made me think Beatles a few times, funny?
Just came out that way!
I think 'The Beatles' is in me/us...all of us...
sometimes it just pours out
thanks for that reference to Sgt Pepper
i missed the deadline for the LSP

a sense of surreal and ethereal. you always manage to leave such delicate space in your compositions. lots of room for the listener to explore and ponder. nice collab
timothy devine
don't encourage me i post a blank space
theres one in my head you know

This is a genre I usually don't listen but I'm really enjoying the organic feel. I love the mid-eastern style going on. A very peaceful tune, until the end, where it gets a little spooky.
Overall, VERY relaxing. Awesome collab.
Thanks for the DL.
Peace.
timothy devine
I know this is not u'r cup o tea, so thanks for coming over to listen.
I don't know where the end came from it just evolved.
spooky...an interesting feeling...

and also very beautiful. It's like listening in on someone's dreams. I like what you have done together, The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. A very eloquent piece. thanks for sharing it Tim.

I wouldn't want to listen to this by myself.
Shit, I am by myself.............
timothy devine
'I'm here'........
michael2
on this one, very dreamy. i am going to have a go at finishing this one myself. although for the record: it's "Reverse Folk" as in I reversed the gtr track, and it has a folk feel to it. great job guys.
timothy devine
I would love to hear that guitar track before it was reversed.
Thanks once again for your post on the 'workbenck'
I had fun

it's like a meditation put into sound, very haunting and hypnotic, cheers M
Doadars Uncle
I found myself sinking with it...
I really love it!
This is too cool!

"Dear Prudence" meets the Fritters?
Beautiful and haunting collab folks! Love the guitar picking. Love the three vocal tracks. Love the mix. Love it!
Be well all!

Like the picture you posted with this, it paints a surreal landscape. As if spirits floating in the mist trying to connect but never connecting.
Nice mood creation. I can imagine you adding some swamp slide guitar in here too for an added effect.
Nice creation Tim.
i can hear some pink floyd, some triumph, and a touch of early yes...
and some of you guys too... of course.....nice tune, makes me warm and sleepy all over. which is a good thing, cause i am having trouble sleeping lately..

What a great track - and inspired collab. Great space and feeling - the balance is perfect.
You are the reason I've been waiting all these years
Somebody holds the key
Too cool.

Get me out of this Traffic Jam.
Second traffic reference...
such a complement!
Thanks for giving a listen.
thoddi said this should have been LSP for St Pepper?
maybe 'John Barleycorn' is more like it.
remember...what a huge record...
there are no more huge records anymore
turntables are a big thing this holiday season...

drifty and swirly. kinda ghostly too. and they tend to hide in fog pretty well. Nice take on this!

... what the etiquette was on commenting on a song that someone else did that one was on .. but didn't post cause it was posted on their page ... does one comment or not comment .... but Tim had his hands full with this one cause he was forced to remix my vocal tracks which I sent to him all plumped up with reverb...echo... and panning ..... not to mention preset vols .... I don't like anyone to hear this eerie type of vocals dry .. hahahahahaha
timothy devine
on my page, there is one etiquette / you are part of the post/posting party for sure.
You helped make this a work/so that I could put the stamp on.
The tracks you sent me were like liquid gold. they flowed right in to the sculpture of the song.
thanks
This is music on the verge of dissolving.....
Beautiful and vaporous.
You're working on a very high plane these days, Tim.
All the best,
VicDiesel
You have some pretty standard vocals here, and the rest of the instruments are sort of tugging at the fabric. The whole thing is always just at the edge of unraveling, but it doesn't quite.
My compliments for making such a mix work. Really cool track.
BloodSoul
i thought of pink floyd before i thought of the beatles. i really do like the overlapping voices, very cool.
lavalamp
Trippy. Like the backwards background. Give it nice texture. I can feel it.
I know this Really rare Beatle outtake called "Pink Litmus Test", reminds me of that.

What a finely crafted introspective piece. I love the panning effects. Reminds me of late Beatles. Do I hear a sitar?
Your words are hard to understand sometimes, but maybe that's on purpose, to give the song a mournful quality.
I love all the guitar layers. Cool.
You've got quite a few vocal layers going here. This must have taken quite a while to put together. Well worth it.
Bass player is understated, but his talent shines through anyhow.
Roxylee
This is wonderful, Tim. Michael2'ssoundbed is the perfect vehicle for Alannah's great voice, which reminds m of Daisy DeBolt; it has such a gypsy feel to it. Everything blends. Totally ethereal and mesmerizing.
Alannah
.. now I gotta google Daisy DeBolt .... a new one to add to the mix .....

love the different shades, quite pysychedelic sounds - if you ever want any artwork to use just ask - I dont use my stuff enough.
Many thanks - rich
timothy devine

Thanks very much for such a great comment.
Alannah and Mike had everything to do with this /also/ a true product of MacJams.
You got to love what she sent as a vocal part where it fades out she whispers I'm here, I'm here......
she is so cool
thanks again for visiting
