Description:
dedicated to John Lennon on December 8. a piano ballad in C. recorded fast in an attempt to not overdub too much.
Lyrics:
take me in, my love - tell me it's ok
pick me up, don't put me down today
let me in, my love - here beside me lie
please don't wring me up just to hang me out to dry
I don't know if it's love - I don't know if it's real
all I know is I don't know how to feel
and I feel lost inside
since I've been tossed aside
only to find I'm left behind
take me in, my love - tell me I can stay
even if you've never loved me anyway
I don't know if it's love - I don't know if it's real
all I know is I don't know how to feel
I don't know how to feel
I don't know how to feel
I don't know how to....

Beautiful dedication. &mdash 12/09/07 - 01:11:32 AM
For me it has a very strong Pepper's vibe.A simple and straight forward piece of song writing.Well crafted and well executed.Much enjoyed.

how to feel - very happy to hear a new Brian D song. Only listened twice so far and it's already embedded in my brain. Overdosing on Mellotron.
Another great song Brian.
Cheers

when in doubt, slap on some mellotron! I'd stick those flutes on everything if I could! the cello was actually the Boldt cello that I found under the links section over on the left.

Oh this is really good Brian &mdash 12/09/07 - 12:11:10 PM
I love the feel of it which is kind of like a lost song off of the Sgt Peppers album. Your chord progression and use of descending chords is wonderful. The piano sounds great and so does the vocal.
Great piece Brian, thanks for posting it and sharing.

What's the stain glass about? &mdash 12/09/07 - 06:49:34 PM
Great tune as always-jerk. I've been struggling with a tune for the last month but you're just popping them out left and right and now an album on iTunes!!!
Love the emo in this tune Brian, very intimate. High Marks. [ Reply to This ]

3 verses, a chorus, 4-6 chords, 3 minutes long. done! maybe you're thinking too hard!

I love the dueling drum tracks. Mellotron is completely Beatles, nicely captured vibe. Beautiful chord arrangement. Love the descent into the chorus. But "not overdub too much"? When it started I was expecting only piano! Cool song.

I'm glad you like it. I tend to go overboard on overdubs. this has no background vocals or electric guitars which usually adds about 12 more tracks. I have a hard time restraining myself sometimes!

what a &mdash 12/11/07 - 11:43:05 PM
great song. to my ears it's reminiscent of Badfinger getting together for drinks with the Eels as produced by Jon Brion. That mellotron sounds so good, and your songwriting is always a cut above the rest. great job. [ Reply to This ]
good spot! &mdash 12/12/07 - 10:41:06 PM
Jon Brion is my hero. I met him once and told him so, too. He plays everything, sings great, and is one hell of a producer. (I wish he would make another proper solo album) Not a bad role model. Love the Eels, love Badfinger. You totally sussed me out on this one!

Wash &mdash 12/13/07 - 12:55:49 AM
At first I wasn't crazy about the sort of washing sound of the drums but then it grew on me and helps move the song along and make it more organic. I really enjoy all the entangled pieces that weave in and out of each other. Great lyrics and vocal delivery. [ Reply to This ]

Cool beat &mdash 02/12/08 - 11:54:15 PM
plus your voice sounds right on key, enjoy the piano style on this as well.
Interesting sounds, nice pop feel! LIke the flute mix with the guitar and the list goes on. [ Reply to This ]
