Description
"Ave Maria" is the second a capella choral piece I have written. I wished
to paint the words of the liturgical Ave Maria text, creating a sense of
warmth and comfort. The first melodic line sung by the sopranos is
repeated throughout the piece by various voice parts. I also experimented
with using an "inverted" form of this short motif later in the
composition, attempting to create consistency even if no distinct melody
was present. The piece was written in July and August of this year, and I
began ensemble rehearsals in early October.
While this is a live recording, I originally used Garageband to pencil in the music before using Finale to create the score.
