Description:
Another oldie. This was recorded as a musical Christmas card in 2005 and features my wife Lesley and son Matthew (then 10) on vocals. The tree in the picture was in Birmingham's Bull Ring and was photographed by a friend of ours - I think it made a rather nice cover. My son's favourite (only) CD is 'Best Songs Of Worship... Ever' - I wrote this in that style otherwise he wouldn't sing!

nice bright sound on this and the beat is unusual and adds to the brightness. I love the Family choir sounds great and gives a lovely merry sound to this seasonal song, great song, regards M

Thanks Maurice &mdash 12/12/07 - 05:33:10 PM
This was the first Christmas song that I wrote and I remain happy overall with it - a couple of the edits (Matthew kept forgetting to sing) could be better but I think those little imperfections somehow add. I was going for a bright and lively sound so I'm pleased that it comes across that way. Thanks for dropping by. Peter

you here. Matthew and I do clash a bit sometimes - I think we're too alike! He's always very enthusiastic and was keen do a Christmas song this year but we just haven't had the time. Thanks for listening and hope you're on the mend.

Very nice song, my friend &mdash 12/12/07 - 04:21:10 PM
I love the swaying rhythm and the sentiment of the lyrics. Great performance all round. Good lead guitar sound and nice acoustic sound too. Very cool. Talent runs in the family, I see! Nice work. Have a good one. Peace.

Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed it. This started off with just an acoustic guitar and drum machine - which worked remarkably well - I then came back to it a few months later, tweaked the drums and went from there. I'm far more of a rhythm guitarist so I don't do too many, or very complicated solos but I think thnik they work on this, especially the two near the end. The lyrics really wrote themselves and I felt very comfortable with them. Lesley and Matthew both did a stirling job. Thanks again! Peter

Better than most Christmas music, because it's a family affair. Great recording, Peter.

I think it's nice to receive something home made at Christmas and a family gift is rather special. I'm not sure how many CDs were sent out (seemed a lot at the time), but it was well worth the time and effort.

Thanks for listening

Peter, this is really nice! It's nice to hear a Christmas tune rocked up a little bit. Lesley and Matthew are really talented singers! I'm surprised they haven't been present on some of your other tunes.

Really enjoyable!

Hi Vic &mdash 12/13/07 - 02:07:46 AM
Thanks. I wanted this to have a feel good, happy sound and be a good sing-a-long song (more Slade than Bing). Both Lesley and Matthew sing really well but neither are very confident doing it. I'll continue to try and get Lesley to do some singing for a 2008 MacJams post.

It will definitely be a favorite around my tree this year. DL'd

I got all choked up - I'm not kidding. Kids and light - can't beat the combination. What a wonderful gift as the days grow darker and colder.

A Musical Christmas Card????!!!!! What a great idea!!!!

What a blessing that your wife and child sing so beautifully!

Maybe one day you can do harmonies together and knock everyone even further off their feet!

Great job everyone! Beautiful voice and that electric guitar comes in and impresses so!

I just noticed I've punctuated every sentence with an exclamation point! It's just so exciting!

Peter,
This is very nice - Matthew and Lesley sure have good voices (we know you have Peter!). Beautiful recording - I hope you're sending this out to friends as a Christmas gift :) Lovely production too.

Best wishes for Christmas for you and your family - I really miss the north of England at this time of year!
Cheers,
Neil

for your lovely comments. We don't do much singing together but I will try and encourage it more in 2008 - finding the time is the biggest problem - it would be nice to work on those harmonies.

Look forward to hearing more of your tunes next year!

One of my kid's favorites I play and we sing together is "This Little Light of Mine" an old chorus I learned in grade school..... perhaps you've heard it, maybe a kinda Baptist thing, I don't know :)

Any way, this reminds me of those kind of great times singing with the family - it's RICH! (nice electric in there, too)

When I was &mdash 12/22/07 - 04:52:29 PM
at infant school my teacher used to play "This little light of mine" by The Seekers and it was also the first record I played on my future wife's hi-fi when she was a customer of mine (I worked in hi-fi retail and was installing a new turntable)! I was trying to re-create that sort of thing on this - just need Judith Durham to sing on it!

Thanks for listening!

Roxanne. Although this is a Christmas song it was actually written and recorded in August and originally intended inspirational song - I think there's only one line (the last one) that mentions Christmas. This is a song that I remain very happy with. I appreciate you dropping by and listening - especially as it's mid-January!

this is something so utterly charming.... It made me really emotional. I LOVE that feeling of community and clannishness dripping from this sweet family tune. So caring, kind, warm and utterly utterly sweet... Wonderful... :)

I lost a will somehow. Nothing pleases me. It might be because of that rainy awful wet weather here, I don't know. Are you noticing these huge mood changes depended on the weather on your self as well? I don't even comment on people music. An utter disaster :(

Your catchy Christmas song. Brought the sunshine into my living room.
it was snowing earlier in the day. I like the words. Be guided by the light when it shines so bright. You all sing so sweetly too. love it.

Dee1962z for listening and for your kind words - I guess you must be further north than me. There has been a lot of rain (and wind) but no snow. This was written on a nice sunny day in August!

Happy Easter! &mdash 03/17/08 - 12:31:13 PM
Hi Peter, it's took me a while to get to this - a bit late for Christmas i'm afraid. A great sound with your family vocals sounding so sweet together - you should get them to sing more. It puts me in a happy frame of mind even in March with Christmas so far away still. The double electric guitars near the end finish it off with a nice Slade-like touch.
I'll favoutite it ready for December.
